    In the present paper, the author has attempted to examine fatigue life of automotive safety components under axial variable amplitude loading conditions. To this end, the time components of stress tensor in the critical area of the knuckle and Liu-Zenner criterion were used to calculate the time history of equivalent stress. Then, the probability distribution function (PDF) of stress was extracted by applying the stress level counting technique. The Fourier curve fitting method was employed in order to formulate the PDF.     A Bayesian framework for 3-D human pose estimation from monocular images based on sparse representation (SR) is introduced. Our probabilistic approach aims at simultaneously learning two overcomplete dictionaries (one for the visual input space and the other for the pose space) with a shared sparse representation. Existing SR-based pose estimation approaches only offer a point estimation of the dictionary and the sparse codes. Therefore, they might be unreliable when the number of training examples is small.     Abstract
    In this paper, we address aircraft conflict detection on a mid-term horizon. We adopt a probabilistic approach and provide a simple method to estimate the probability of two aircraft getting closer than some minimum predefined distance, based on a commonly adopted Gaussian model of the deviation from their planned trajectories. A key feature of our method is that the probability estimate is accompanied by a deterministic accuracy certificate. This is achieved by adopting a geometric approach to conflict probability estimation and jointly computing a lower and an upper bound on the conflict probability.     A known theorem in probability is adopted and through a probabilistic approach, it is generalized to develop a method for generating random deviates from the distribution of any continuous random variable. This method, which may be considered as an approximate version of the Inverse Transform algorithm, takes two random numbers to generate a random deviate, while maintaining all the other advantages of the Inverse Transform method, such as the possibility of generating ordered as well as correlated deviates and being applicable to all density functions, regardless of their parameter values. © Sharif University of Technology, October 2008

    This paper describes an approach to mid-term probabilistic conflict detection between two aircraft flying at the same altitude. The key distinguishing feature of the proposed method is that it analytically estimates the conflict probability, in the presence of a fully correlated wind field. The method uses a two-step approach. First, the mean and the covariance of the aircraft relative position are computed analytically. Then, the conflict probability is estimated such that a desired level of accuracy is obtained.
