Study of ESP and Gas Lift Applications On low Productivity Wells of Alvand Oil Field

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pornouri, Pouria (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Alavand Oil field is located 50 Km away from west of Siri Island and includes DPG and DPH platforms. The production from Alavand field started in 1998 and till now 11 wells have been totally drilled .Since a production peak in 2001, the oil production in Alvand field has decreased. Water cut is increasing and reservoir pressure is decreasing gradually. Considering poor reservoir characteristic of this reservoir, productivity indexes of wells are relatively low. In addition; natural depletion of reservoir caused the wells to be unable to flow naturally and either closed or produce periodically consequently. To increase production and extend the lifetime of Alvand field, it is decided to start...

    Abstract
Production optimization is defined as the process of maximizing oil production over the long term while minimizing total production costs. The overall goal is to achieve the optimum profitability from the well or field. In this process, the reservoir system can be considered as a multiple input–output system. In this complex system injection and production wells are known as inputs and outputs. The output of the system is often affected by various parameters consisting reservoir conditions, petrophysics, and PVT data. The optimization of the injector rates and number and installation of submersible pumps are the main issues which have been studied in this paper. Determining the factor with...

Measurement and prediction of the rate of deposition of flocculated asphaltene particles from oil

    , Article International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer ; Volume 52, Issue 19-20 , 2009 , Pages 4624-4634 ; 00179310 (ISSN) Jamialahmadi, M ; Soltani, B ; Müller Steinhagen, H ; Rashtchian, D ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Asphaltene deposition is one of the unresolved problems in oil industries. Little information is available on the critical question of "how fast" the flocculated asphaltene particles deposit across the production wells from the flowing oil. In this study, the mechanisms of deposition of flocculated asphaltene particles from oil have been studied experimentally and theoretically under forced convective conditions using an accurate thermal approach. The effects of oil velocity, flocculated asphaltene concentration and temperature on the rate of asphaltene deposition are investigated. It is observed that during the first few weeks the deposition mechanism is dominant and the erosion of the...

A new multiphase and dynamic asphaltene deposition tool (MAD-ADEPT) to predict the deposition of asphaltene particles on tubing wall

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 195 , 2020 Naseri, S ; Jamshidi, S ; Taghikhani, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
As expounded, the precipitation and deposition of asphaltene particles in pipelines has been proved to be the most challenging flow assurance problem due to its unknown and complex behaviors. In this work, a new multicomponent, multiphase and dynamic tool was developed to model the aggregation and deposition of asphaltene particles in a bulk medium. The multiphase and dynamic asphaltene deposition tool, shortened as MAD-ADEPT is, in fact, a modified version of the previously developed ADEPT. The new tool was developed to make the asphaltene deposition and aggregation concepts in oil production wells more predictable. To tackle the complexity of the asphaltene problem, a bespoke algorithm was...

Characterizing the Role of Shale Geometry and Connate Water Saturation on Performance of Polymer Flooding in Heavy Oil Reservoirs: Experimental Observations and Numerical Simulations

    , Article Transport in Porous Media ; Volume 91, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 973-998 ; 01693913 (ISSN) Mohammadi, S ; Masihi, M ; Ghazanfari, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Many heavy oil reservoirs contain discontinuous shales which act as barriers or baffles to flow. However, there is a lack of fundamental understanding about how the shale geometrical characteristics affect the reservoir performance, especially during polymer flooding of heavy oils. In this study, a series of polymer injection processes have been performed on five-spot glass micromodels with different shale geometrical characteristics that are initially saturated with the heavy oil. The available geological characteristics from one of the Iranian oilfields were considered for the construction of the flow patterns by using a controlled-laser technology. Oil recoveries as a function of pore...

Application of temperature transient analysis for welltest interpretation and well productivity evaluation

    Abstract
During transient tests, both pressure and temperature are changed depending on downhole flow rate. In gas producing wells, Joule-Thomson cooling and frictional heating effects are the main dynamic factors causing flowing bottomhole temperature to differ from the static formation temperature at that depth. When a gas well is shut in, JT cooling effect is vanished and this causes a sharp increase in sandface temperature. As effect of wellbore storage ends, wellbore temperature gradually cools down due to heat conduction with near wellbore region. This paper demonstrates a new technique for using temperature transient data in gas wells in order to determine end of wellbore storage. Also, effect...
