    Abstract
    A system protection scheme is proposed to mitigate cascaded voltage collapses. Based on the post-contingency conditions of either existence or non-existence of an equilibrium solution, and with regard to the stability and security criteria, the proposed scheme finds the optimal set of remedies. The proposed stabilising scheme brings the non-equilibrium post-contingency operating point back inside a stable region, and then passes this point to the securing scheme.     Abstract
    Vulnerability of power electronic converters in DC microgrids in case of fault occurrence in DC cables necessitates using a fast fault detection and isolation scheme. In this paper, a modified, fast and selective protection scheme has been presented, which provides the required tripping of low voltage DC (LVDC) microgrids. This protection scheme has been developed based on the natural characteristics of the fault current, in which the first and second derivatives of the fault current have been employed to define thresholds for discriminating between faulted and non-faulted situations.     Abstract
    Hardware trojan horses (HTH) have recently emerged as a major security threat for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Previous studies to protect FPGAs against HTHs may still leave a considerable amount of logic resources to be misused by malicious attacks. This letter presents a low-level HTH protection scheme for FPGAs by filling the unused resources with the proposed dummy logic. In the proposed scheme, we identify the unused resources at the device layout-level and offer dummy logic cells for different resources.     Despite the significant research efforts devoted to the microgrid and smart grid areas, numerous problems related to real world implementations still remain unsolved. The present special issue was announced with the objective of addressing and disseminating state-of-the-art R&D results on microgrids to bring together researchers from both academia and industry with the goal of fostering interactions among stakeholders.
