    Background: Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell line is considered as the most common cell line in the biopharmaceutical industry because of its capability in performing efficient post-translational modifications and producing the recombinant proteins, which are similar to natural human proteins.     Bioorthogonal chemistry defines any reaction, inside or outside the living systems, without interfering with native chemical processes and 3dimensional structure of proteins. In these types of reactions water is the sole solvent; a neutral pH is required; the temperature must be up to 40 oC. The kinetics of reactions must be on the hour scale and the nontoxic reagents with low concentration must be used.     Abstract
    We investigated the response of a bacterial strain isolated from low grade complex zinc and lead sulfide mines to metals toxicity (i.e., zinc, manganese, nickel, cobalt, copper, arsenate, chromium, lead, and mercury). The bacterium was identified as a strain of Aciditiobacillus ferrooxidans. The isolate showed good resistance to most of the toxic metals. The proteomics approach was used to identify the differentially expressed proteins under heavy metal stress in this strain.     Abstract
    Protein mass spectra pattern recognition is a new forum in which many machine learning algorithms have been conducted to enhance the chance of early cancer diagnosis. The high-dimensionality-small-sample (HDSS) problem of cancer proteomic datasets still requires more sophisticated approaches to improve the classification accuracy. In this study we present a simple ensemble strategy based on measuring the generalizing capability of different subsets of training data and apply it in making final decision.     Abstract
    Bacteriorhodopsin is a heptahelical protein found in the purple membrane of Halobacterium salinarum. The performance of bacteriorhodopsin was evaluated as a sensitizer in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Bacteriorhodopsin was efficiently immobilized on the titanium dioxide nanoparticles and then tested for its ability to convert solar radiation to electricity. The photovoltaic performance of DSSC based on the bacteriorhodopsin sensitizer has been examined. Under AM1.5 irradiation, a short-circuit current of 0.28 mA cm−2, open-circuit voltages of 0.51 V, fill factor of 0.62, and an overall energy conversion efficiency of 0.09 % are achieved employing platinum as a counter electrode.     Volatile components of saffron from different regions of Iran were extracted by ultrasonic-assisted solvent extraction (USE) and were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Self-modeling curve resolution (SMCR) was proposed for resolving the co-eluted GC-MS peak clusters into pure chromatograms and mass spectra. Multivariate curve resolution-objective function minimization (MCR-FMIN) and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least square (MCR-ALS) were successfully used for this purpose.
