Numerical Calculation of Bearing Capacity of Foundations Near or on the Slopes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Bearing capacity of foundations is one of the most controversial issues in foundation engineering. In this study regarding to the previous researches which has done by the other researchers the bearing capacity factors of a footing has calculatedusing finite element method. On the next step of this study some footings has modeled on different positions near slopes with different angles and bearing capacity of them has calculated, then some strip foundation has modeled and bearing capacity of them has calculated and compared with the values of the footings in this study and strip foundations of the other researches. Furthermore some foundations have modeled on the solpe and bearing capacity...

Numerical Modeling of the Bearing Capacity of Suction Caisson by Finite Element Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hejazian, Maryam (Author) ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Suction caisson is a relatively new technology which was introduced about 30 years ago for the first time and after several investigations, was found its position in the oil industry and construction of anchorages, during previous decade. So nowadays, it is the most effective and economical choice as the mooring of offshore structures in comparison with the other foundations. Suction caisson is a hollow cylinder with an open bottom and a closed top. After placement on the seafloor, the caisson first penetrates into the soil by its self weight and then inserts into the ground by pumping water out of it. Although many researchers have attempted to understand the behavior of suction caissons...

Comparison between Performance of Stone Columns and RAPs from the Bearing Capacity and Settlement Reduction Viewpoints

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Golestani Dariani, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Pak, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Out of several ground improvement techniques available, stone columns have been widely used. This technique has been successfully applied to increase the bearing capacity and to reduce the settlement for foundation of structures like liquid storage tanks, earthen embankments, raft foundations, etc., where a relatively large settlement is permissible. This technique has, generally, been proven successful in increasing the stiffness of weak soils, upgrading their safe bearing capacity, and reducing their total and differential settlements, as well as speeding up their consolidation process. The beneficial effects of stone column installation in weak deposits is manifested in the form of...

Numerical Study of Parameters Affecting the Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundations

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Yousefi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Ahmadi, Mohamad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Thread the bearing capacity of soil beneath the foundations of the main topics in Engineering is considered that main reason it is the more contact structures. if all the factors that are likely to impact on bearing capacity is more useful to consider more accurate results are obtained. This thesis has tried using FLAC software is a comprehensive review on the soil bearing capacity of foundations under certain conditions of Geotechnical and foundation strip, can be done .The modeling of soil layers and soil bearing capacity based on changes in properties (clay and sandy soils) and changes in depth are examined. The changes in the deep layer of soil and properties of soil, bearing capacity is...

Strengthening Masonry Walls Using Shear Steel Plates

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Torabi Yazdi, Mohammad (Author) ; Khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many of the existing or under-construction buildings in Iran and the world belong to masonry materials buildings. These buildings are more popular among owners and employers in non-urban, rural, and small towns than in large metropolitan areas. In addition to residential buildings, current schools and office buildings in Iran have been built or are being built using this building system. The most important factors in acceptance of these building systems are economic matters, availability of materials, simplicity of production technology of building blocks, and lack of any dependence on skilled technical personnel to build these structures. Experiences of past earthquakes show the very...
