, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Palangi, Zakaria (Author) ; Yoozbashizadeh, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Gold is a noble and precious metal used in various industries, including jewelry, electrical and electronic, catalyst, and medical industries. Multiple processes are used to extract and refine gold; each one has its advantages and disadvantages. In this research Work, comprehensive information on the electrochemical purification process of gold from anode electrode with 75% crude gold and titanium cathode electrode in the chloride electrolyte solution is presented. To perform the purification process, first using the parameters and their levels, including temperature (30, 45, and 60 degrees Celsius), voltage (2, 2.2, and 2.4 volts), and acid concentration (1, 2, and 3 M), Design of...

Development of Simulation Model and Optimal Design of Water and Energy Recirculation System in Residential Towers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Javadinia, Maryam (Author) ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor) ; Fathi, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
nowadays, due to population growth, unconventional use of water resources and on the other hand, climate change, limited renewable water resources, reduction of groundwater cavities, the need for water for agricultural use and energy production are increasing. Due to the fact that each cubic meter of dirty water pollutes 40 to 60 cubic meters of clean water and the entry of polluted effluent into the receiving sources of environmental degradation leads to a lot of wastewater treatment, water consumption management and The development of wastewater treatment processes is also becoming increasingly important. At present, wastewater treatment plants face the challenges of high energy...

A web-based methodology for convergent product fuzzy networks using the Steiner tree

    , Article Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering ; Volume 30, Issue 7 , 2013 , Pages 415-432 ; 21681015 (ISSN) Hassanzadeh, R ; Mahdavi, I ; Mahdavi Amiri, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
An important manufacturing technology spectrum is to consider rapid and sensitive assemblies through convergent product (CP) in digital environment. We integrate functions and sub-functions using a comprehensive mathematical optimization process. To form the CP, a web-based fuzzy network is considered in which a collection of base functions and sub-functions configure the nodes and each arc in the network is to be a link between two nodes. The aim is to find an optimal tree of functionalities in the network adding value to the product in the web environment. First, a purification process is performed in the product network to assign the links among bases and sub-functions. Then, fuzzy...

Experimental study and thermodynamic modeling for purification of extracted algal lipids using an organic/aqueous two-phase system

    , Article RSC Advances ; Volume 5, Issue 2 , 2015 , Pages 1153-1160 ; 20462069 (ISSN) Abedini Najafabadi, H ; Pazuki, G ; Vossoughi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The extraction and purification of lipids from the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris have been investigated. First, a mixture of hexane and ethanol was used to extract lipids from the algal biomass. Ultrasonication was employed to disrupt the cell wall and increase the extraction performance. Under these conditions, over 90% of the fatty acids in the biomass were extracted. Second, a biphasic system was formed by adding water and hexane to the extracted crude oil. In this way, fatty acids were mainly distributed in the organic phase (mostly hexane and ethanol) while most of the contaminants remained in the aqueous phase (mostly water and ethanol). Equilibrium distribution data between the phases...

Comparison of synthesis and purification of carbon nanotubes by thermal chemical vapor deposition on the nickel-based catalysts: NiSio2 and 304-type stainless steel

    , Article Journal of Applied Sciences ; Volume 10, Issue 9 , 2010 , Pages 716-723 ; 18125654 (ISSN) Fekri, L ; Jafari, A ; Fekri, S ; Shafikhani, A ; Vesaghi, M ; Behzadi, G ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this study by Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition (TCVD) method, the synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and temperature affects on the grown CNTs on the NiSio2 catalyst and 304-type stainless steel was investigated. The purification of the grown CNTs on the 304-type stainless steel was also investigated in this study. The synthesis and purification of the samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), termogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Raman spectroscopy. Our obtained result by SEM and TEM shows that densities of CNTs growth on the 304-type stainless steel are more than the CNTs growth on the NiSio2 catalyst and both of them have...

Silver nanoparticles within vertically aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes with open tips for antibacterial purposes

    , Article Journal of Materials Chemistry ; Volume 21, Issue 2 , Oct , 2011 , Pages 387-393 ; 09599428 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Abdolahad, M ; Abdi, Y ; Mohajerzadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Vertically aligned multi-wall carbon nanotube (CNT) arrays were fabricated in tip-growth mode on Ni/Si substrates using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. In a purification process including hydrogenation and acid washing of the Ni/CNTs, the oxygen-containing functional groups were substantially reduced and a wide hollow core at the tip of the CNTs was formed by removing the Ni seeds. Sol-gel silver nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of the unpurified Ni/CNTs, while they could also be embedded within the hollow core of the Ni-removed CNTs. The persistency of the silver ions in the Ni-removed Ag-CNTs in comparison to the release of the silver ions from the Ag-Ni/CNTs in a...

    Water treatment using stimuli-responsive polymers

    , Article Polymer Chemistry ; Volume 13, Issue 42 , 2022 , Pages 5940-5964 ; 17599954 (ISSN) Abousalman Rezvani, Z ; Roghani Mamaqani, H ; Riazi, H ; Abousalman Rezvani, O ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Water treatment is a process used to eliminate or reduce chemical and biological contaminants that are potentially harmful to the water supply for human use. Stimuli-responsive polymers are a new category of smart materials used in water treatment via a stimuli-induced purification process and subsequent regeneration of the polymers. Stimuli-responsive polymers dynamically change their physico-chemical properties upon environmental changes. They can undergo shrinkage or expansion, alter their optical properties, and change their electrical characteristics depending on the applied stimuli. In this context, various stimuli-responsive polymer systems such as self-assembled nanostructures,...

Photocatalytic degradation of furfural by titania nanoparticles in a floating-bed photoreactor

    , Article Chemical Engineering Journal ; Volume 146, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 79-85 ; 13858947 (ISSN) Faramarzpour, M ; Vossoughi, M ; Borghei, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
In this research, an attempt was made to investigate the potential of nanophotocatalysts for treatment of hazardous wastewater streams. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (as photocatalyst) were immobilized on a porous and low-density support called "perlite" using a very simple and inexpensive method. TiO2-coated perlite granules were used in a "Floating-bed photoreactor" to study the photocatalytic purification process of a typical wastewater polluted by furfural. The effects of initial concentration, catalyst mass/solution volume ratio, oxidant molar flow, residence time, and light intensity on process removal efficiency, and kinetics of the reactions were studied. SEM analyses showed a...
