    Abstract
Waves encountering can cause significant ship motions and affect the photovoltaic power generation capacity in All-Electric Ships (AES) during extreme conditions. In this paper, a comprehensive strategy is proposed to examine the impact of modern vessels' movements on the PV system output and the ship power quality during various operating scenarios. The proposed theoretical model-based technique determines ship angles in a wave collision and assesses sun-related angles concerning the vessel motions. Based on the panel angles, the solar irradiance and the PV system power variations can be derived. The developed method can simultaneously evaluate the effect of ship motions on the photovoltaic...

Reduced common-mode voltage in Z-source inverters

    , Article 8th Power Electronics, Drive Systems and Technologies Conference, PEDSTC 2017, 14 February 2017 through 16 February 2017 ; 2017 , Pages 413-418 ; 9781509057665 (ISBN) Noroozi, N ; Zolghadri, M. R ; Yaghoubi, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Z-source family has been widespread in photovoltaic (PV) applications. In trasformerless grid-connected PV systems, the common mode voltage (CMV) time variations, cause the leakage current flow. This current flows through the stray capacitance of the PV panels. For a Z-Source Inverter (ZSI), the CMV would have higher high-frequency harmonics, due to the shoot through states within the switching cycles. In this paper, the CMV of a ZSI is analyzed and a simple method is proposed for the harmonic reduction of the CMV in the ZSI. The CMV reduction method is based on changing the switching states. The CMV in reduced method is compared to the CMV in the traditional ZSI in frequency domain by using...

Practical battery size optimization of a PV system by considering individual customer damage function

    , Article Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews ; Volume 67 , 2017 , Pages 36-50 ; 13640321 (ISSN) Mehrabankhomartash, M ; Rayati, M ; Sheikhi, A ; Ranjbar, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Today, energy crises attracted many researchers’ attention to renewable energy technologies especially photovoltaic (PV) systems. The main challenge of PV systems is unpredictable nature of solar power generation. To overcome this challenge, a storage system is integrated which reduces demand reliance on electricity grid and uses excess energy that solar panels produce. As investment cost of the storage system is considerable, finding an optimal technology, size, and configuration are crucial. In this paper, the optimal battery system is excluded from existing PV plant installing in a commercial building located in Mashhad/Iran. Here, the sizing procedure is based on a financial evaluation...
