    Abstract
This paper focuses on the use of quadratic time-frequency distributions (QTFDs) to characterize the temporal variation of low-frequency electromechanical oscillations (LFEOs) using ringdown data. A refined Margenau-Hill distribution (MHD) and a procedure to extract the instantaneous frequencies and damping factors as well as initial phase angles of system low-frequency modes when the analyzed signal is multi-component are proposed. The refinement process enjoys a fast-converging iterative algorithm and without loss of generality it can be applied to other QTFDs for using in other applications. A non-stationary synthetic signal as well as simulated ringdown data of a 5-area, 16-machine power...

    Abstract
For a set of n disjoint line segments S in R2, the visibility counting problem (VCP) is to preprocess S such that the number of visible segments in S from a query point p can be computed quickly. For this configuration, the visibility testing problem (VTP) is to test whether p sees a fixed segment s. These problems can be solved in logarithmic query time by using O(n4) preprocessing time and space. In this paper, we approximately solve this problem using quadratic preprocessing time and space. Our methods are superior to current approximation algorithms in terms of both approximation factor and preprocessing cost. In this paper, we propose a 2-approximation algorithm for the VCP using at...

    Abstract
Electromyogram signal is a biopotential signal that may be measured on the surface of contracting muscles representing neuromuscular activities. This signal may be utilized in various applications such as clinical diagnosis of diseased neuromuscular systems and as a measurement tool for evaluation of rehabilitation activities. Another recent application is the usage of EMG signal in design and implementation of neural controlled prosthesis hands. For this purpose appropriate features of EMG signal are required such that intended hand movements may be recognized correctly. In this work we considered a new method based on quadratic time-frequency representation namely Wigner-Ville distribution...
