Wide-band spiral filter using microstrip patches to increase external and internal coupling

    , Article Electromagnetics ; Volume 32, Issue 3 , 2012 , Pages 161-172 ; 02726343 (ISSN) Roshanmanesh, S ; Javadzadeh, S. M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Microwave filters have successfully been miniaturized using spiral resonators. One of the typical problems in wideband microwave filters, such as spiral filters, is the need for very small gaps between resonators to accomplish high external and internal coupling. These gaps cause difficulties in the physical implementation of the filter, especially at high frequencies. To avoid this problem and to enable easy fabrication of the filter, a rectangular microstrip patch was used as a coupling capacitor instead of small gaps between resonators. This technique was used both for external and for internal coupling of the filter. Additionally, this approach has another important benefit; it removes...

    Abstract
In this paper, a wideband coupled-resonator microstrip bandpass filter is designed and experimentally demonstrated in the S-Band. The filter is comprised of quarter-wavelength hair-pin resonators, reducing resonator and filter footprint compared to conventional hairpin designs. Additionally, it is considerably forgiving to fabrication tolerances and yields remarkably close matched results between theory, simulation, and measured results. One demonstration presented has minimal insertion loss ${(< 1{dB})}$ for the entire wide bandwidth of 3.4 GHz to 4.2 GHz. Wider bandwidths up to 60% are also observed using the design. The proposed filter is an attractive solution when space is a critical...

A novel dual-band transmission line with equal-phase responses

    Abstract
This article presents a novel dual-band transmission line (TL), consisting of a multibranch stub, which can provide equal unwrapped phases at two different frequencies. The frequency ratio can be close to one without any significant degradation in the device performance. Besides, the bandwidth of the proposed line can be manipulated at both frequencies by adjusting the design parameters. The behavior of the structure over the frequency bands is investigated theoretically, and the design procedure and relations are derived. The simulation and measurement results of a quarter-wavelength open-ended stub and a branch-line coupler (BLC) are presented and compared to verify the performance of the...

Superconducting compact coplanar waveguide filters based on quarter-wavelength spiral resonators with suppressed slot-line mode

    , Article Electromagnetics ; Volume 34, Issue 1 , 2 January , 2014 , Pages 12-18 ; ISSN: 02726343 Javadzadeh, S. M. H ; Bruno, A ; Farzaneh, F ; Fardmanesh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Quarter-wavelength superconducting spiral resonators have been used to realize a coplanar waveguide bandpass filter and bandstop filter around the center frequency of 6 GHz. These compact coplanar waveguide filters have been made from 300-nm-thick NbTiN thin film on a 525-μm-thick silicon substrate. The bandpass filter is a six-pole Chebyshev filter with two zero transmissions due to nonadjacent coupling in its structure. Accurately microfabricated air-bridges have been used to suppress the undesired slot-line mode in this filter. The bandstop filter is a very simple two-pole structure that used wire bonding to suppress the slot-line mode. Measurements have been done at a temperature of 4.2...
