    Simulation of droplet trains in microfluidic networks

    Abstract
    We show that in a microfluidic network with low Reynolds numbers, a system can be irreversible due to hysteresis effects. We simulated a network of pipes that was used in a recent experiment. The network consists of one loop connected to input and output pipes. A train of droplets enters the system at a uniform rate, but the droplets may leave the system in a periodic or even a chaotic pattern. The output pattern depends on the time interval between incoming droplets as well as the network geometry. For some parameters, the system is not reversible

    Abstract
    Research projects in urban transportation systems require proper simulation softwares. Such softwares are the basic requirements of any kind of study in electrical transportation systems. Due to high energy consumption of these systems, studies for its optimization are challenging and necessary. In this paper an optimized timetable of trains? movement is proposed in order to completely utilize the regenerative energy of trains? braking in stations. A sample subway system is simulated and Genetic algorithm is used as an optimization method. The effect of headway and reserve times on the amount of energy consumption is studied and an optimized reserve time set is found for the sample system.... 

    Nanoscopic spontaneous motion of liquid trains: Nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulation

    Abstract
    Macroscale experiments show that a train of two immiscible liquid drops, a bislug, can spontaneously move in a capillary tube because of surface tension asymmetries. We use molecular dynamics simulation of Lennard-Jones fluids to demonstrate this phenomenon for NVT ensembles in submicron tubes. We deliberately tune the strength of intermolecular forces and control the velocity of bislug in different wetting and viscosity conditions. We compute the velocity profile of particles across the tube and explain the origin of deviations from the classical parabolae.     Historically, most of the maintenance tasks in rolling stock companies are devoted to Preventive Maintenance which leads to some problems such as erroneous maintenance work, unnecessary maintenance tasks, etc. Therefore, it is essential to develop effective maintenance strategies to deal with these problems.     A moving vehicle, owing to its vibration and mass inertia, has significant effects on the dynamic response of structures. Most bridge codes define a factor called the dynamic load allowance, which is applied to the maximum static moment under static loading due to traffic load.     Abstract
    Passive control of vibration of beams subjected to moving loads is studied in which, an optimal tuned mass damper (TMD) system is utilized to suppress the undesirable beam vibration. Timoshenko beam theory is applied to the beam model having three types of boundary conditions, namely, hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped, and the clamped-clamped ends, and the governing equations of motion are solved using the Galerkin method.
