    Abstract
In Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, although taking an active role to guide particles moving toward optimal solution, the most-fit candidate does not have a guide itself and only moves along its velocity vector in every iteration. This may yield a noticeable number of agents converge into local optima if the guide (i.e. the most fit candidate) agent cannot explore the best solution. In this paper, an attempt is made to get the advantage of the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) methodology to assist the PSO algorithm for choosing a proper guide for each particle. This will strengthen the PSO abilities for not getting involved in local optima. As a result, we present a promising new...

    Reactive Market Power Indices Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmat Samii, Ramin (Author) ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reactive market power assessment is an important issue for ISOs and the regulators of the reactive power market. Due to the localized characteristics of reactive power as a technical support and its monopsonistic nature as an economic commodity, a vivid reactive market power index including market share, demand side and cost is not achieved yet. In this work, the existing market power indices in simple commodity markets and power markets are reviewed. Then the applicable indices to reactive power are introduced. Then, a new reactive market power index is presented which is based on bidding strategy deviation of the GENCOs in two types of simultaneous reactive markets. Considering its...

Methods of Clearing Reactive Power Market and Cost Allocation in Pool Structure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kharraty, Saeed (Author) ; Ehsan, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Restructuring and privatization in power system such as any industry leads to better market operation and more social welfare. Since two decade the power system in many countries have changed from monopoly to free market. In a restructured network the technical and economical aspects should be considered together. Ancillary services are needed for any power system to be operated in an optimal and secure manner. Reactive power and voltage regulation is one of the most important ancillary services in the network. this service should be supplied by its providers through a competitive market and system operator determines the optimal dispatch among different bids. The cost of purchasing reactive...

Efficient Distributed Management of Local Resources in Multi-agent Distribution Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tofighi Milani, Mahyar (Author) ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, Mahmud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, with the expansion of restructuring and privatization in power systems, energy markets are growing rapidly, within distribution networks. In order for such markets to be implemented in practice, the technical constraints and issues of the distribution network, which are mainly the power loss and congestion of lines and also the bus voltage violations, must also be considered within the framework provided for them. Hence, this dissertation presents some new structures for Peer-to-peer (P2P) energy markets, in which the technical issues of the distribution network could be considered. Moreover, a model predictive control method is used in the proposed structures of this dissertation...

Strategy deviation index as a new reactive market power indicator

    Abstract
Reactive market power assessment is an important issue for ISOs and the regulators of the reactive power market. Due to the localized characteristics of reactive power as a technical support and its monopsonistic nature as an economic commodity, a vivid reactive market power index including market share, demand side and cost is not achieved yet. In this paper, a new reactive market power index is presented which is based on bidding strategy deviation of the GENCOs after establishing a uniform price auction reactive market. Not knowing others' offers to ISO, each unit faces a bidding strategy problem that is solved using game theory. Considering its production costs, the unit uses the...

    Abstract
The participants in auction-based electricity markets need to take part in a competition way, which operates, based on the concept of supply and demand theory to buy or sell the electricity. However, to have a feasible market solution, reactive power services are necessary to support the transmission of power from generation to end-users. This paper presents a methodology for optimal reactive power procurement, consistent with the auction-based electricity market mechanism. The proposed reactive power market is run in subsequence of the primary electricity market, allowing active power modification in light of available transmission capacity and reactive power resources. The IEEE 30-bus test...
