Abstract
This paper presents the acoustic and structure characteristics of chambers with elastic/rigid baffles and elastic walls using a novel formulation. The acoustic fluid is assumed to be compressible and inviscid, and the effect of mean flow is neglected. The acoustic field is formulated based on the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM), and the finite element method (FEM) is used to model the structural dynamics of elastic walls. The reduced-order model (ROM) of the coupled system is derived based on modal analysis of the acoustic field with rigid boundaries and the structure in a vacuum. Numerical examples are presented, and the acoustic modes and frequencies of the chambers are...

Abstract
For a ternary quadratic form over the rational numbers, we characterize the set of rational numbers represented by that form over the rational numbers. Consequently, we reprove the classical fact that any positive definite integral ternary quadratic form must fail to represent infinitely many positive integers over the rational numbers. Our proof uses only the quadratic reciprocity law and the Hasse-Minkowski theorem, and is elementary. © 2022, Institute of Mathematics, Czech Academy of Sciences
Analytic Hierarchy Process
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Farhasi, Hamid Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a structured technique for organizing and analyzing complex decision. This process is used around the world in a wide variety of decision situation, in fields such as government, business, industry, healthcare, and education. In this method, decision problem first is decomposed into a hierarchy of more easily comprehended sub-problems, each of which can be analyzed independently. Once the hierarchy is built, the decision makers systematically evaluate its various elements by comparing them to one another two at a time, with respect to their impact on an element above them in the hierarchy. In this thesis we will study the hierarchy process and also study a...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
Abstract
Diversity is utilized to mitigate the undesirable fading effect in wireless networks. Cooperative diversity or cooperative communication is one diversity method that is shown to reduce data transmission power consumption as well as obtaining diversity. Therefore, power allocation method has a significant impact on cooperative system performance. In this thesis, we consider reciprocal cooperation between selfish users. In reciprocal cooperation, both users act as each other’s relay. First we introduce a game theoretic-based algorithm for power allocation in a reciprocal cooperation communication. When the proposed algorithm is performed in a distributed manner between two sources, it reaches...

Abstract
A reciprocating single-chamber micropump is designed and experimentally tested. The actuation technique of the pump is based on Lorentz force acting on an array of low-weight microwires placed on a flexible membrane surface. A square-wave electric current (5.6 and 7.8 A) with a low-frequency range (5.6 to 7.6 Hz) is applied through the microwires in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field (0.08 to 0.09 T). The resultant oscillating Lorentz force causes the membrane to oscillate with the same frequency, and pushes the fluid to flow toward the outlet using a high-efficiency ball-valve. The micropump has exhibited a maximum efficiency of 2.03% with a flow rate as high as 490 μl/s and...

Abstract
Environmental impact assessment essentially depends on diverse closely connected components and variables. For this purpose, identification of the whole components is fundamentally required. This study aims to investigate environmental impact assessment of an urban man-made lake in the western part of Tehran, based on recognition of affecting components and their reciprocal effects. Since the components are not constant during the time, thus throughout the environmental impact assessment modeling study, dynamism of the relation between the components should be considered. Regarding insufficiency and uncertainty of information, an analytical method, based on expert's opinion can be applied....

Abstract
Reciprocating Machinery are one of the key components of chemical and petrochemical plants and their down time cause loss of production. Therefore condition monitoring in these machinery is of special interest and high value. In this thesis first, different methods of condition monitoring for reciprocating compressors are introduced then the main cause of high vibrations of three compressors in a refinery is investigated. Finally by using the foundation model prepared, it would be shown that insufficient strength of foundation block has lead cracks initiation and development in these foundations. Therefore high vibration is consequence of weak design

Abstract
In order to increase the service life and prevent the breakdown of apparatuses, instalations and equipments, we are in a position to maintain them. In this regard, there are three methods for maintenance of machineries, which are called reaction maintenance, preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance. By carrying out a predictive method or monitoring the situation, it is possible to know the health of the machine and take the necessary measures before the damages occurs. Vibration analysis, temperature analysis, oil analysis and flow analysis can be used for monitoring the situation. Reciprocating compressors are one of the most costly repair equipment that needs to be monitored...

Abstract
Today, MEMS have wide applications in modern technologies. Magneto hydro dynamic (MHD) micropumps play an important role in the MEMS industry and have been thoroughly studied in the recent years. In this study, the idea of classic reciprocating micropumps was combined with magneto hydro dynamics (MHD) to develop a novel Magneto Mercury Reciprocating (MMR) micropump. To attain this goal, the Lorentz force, as the actuation mechanism, was used to move a conductive liquid (mercury) slug in a reciprocating manner in order to suck the working fluid (air) from the inlet and pump it to the outlet. The performance of the fabricated MMR micropump was examined in terms of parameters such as pressure...

Abstract
A system scheme is presented, which allows non-reciprocal wave transmission or directional amplification of electromagnetic signals, using a boxed four-node method. Edges represent strong hopping interactions and diagonals stand for weak parametric interactions. Using careful optimization of values for design parameters, we are able to obtain non-reciprocity in excess of 12 and 130 dB for intrinsic and extrinsic configurations at identical input/output frequencies. For the directional amplification, an isolation as high as 40 dB is demonstrated with the forward/backward gains of ±20 dB. Cascading two such systems potentially can offer high isolations at high gains. © 1965-2012 IEEE

An Introduction to Langlands Program
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Pournaki, Mohammadreza (Supervisor)
Abstract
The Weil group WF is assigne to every local field F. Langlands Correspondence is a bijetion between semisimple two-dimensional Deligne representations of Weil Group WF and irreducible representations of GL2(F) which fixes assigned L-functions and local constants. In this thesis we have classified an important class of irreducible representations of GL(2) over local fields called Principal Series. We also tried to give a taste of Langlands Correspondence to the reader. First we explain preliminaries and introduce locally profinite groups and their smooth representations. Then we classify representations of GL2(F) when F is finite. Then we study GL2(F) when F is a local field. Finally we...

, Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings ; 2010 , pp. 191-197 ; ISBN: 9780791843833 ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
The robots that can move on rough terrains are very important especially in Rescue operation, exploration, etc. In this research, a mechanism is introduced for a ring-like robot with a flexible body. This robot is moved by arms which are placed radially and have Reciprocating motion in this direction. By controlling the contraction and the extension of the arms which contact lhe ground, the robot will be forced to move which is called rolling-creeping motion. The robot is stable in stationary state.; also the maximum angle which it can be stable is determined. Considering the speed of contracted arm is the input parameter, the speed of the extended arm for locomotion of the robot has been...

Abstract
Lorentz force is the pumping basis of many electromagnetic micropumps used in lab-on-a-chip. In this paper a novel reciprocating single-chamber micropump is proposed, in which the actuation technique is based on Lorentz force acting on an array of microwires attached on a membrane surface. An alternating current is applied through the microwires in the presence of a magnetic field. The resultant force causes the membrane to oscillate and pushes the fluid to flow through microchannel using a ball-valve. The pump chamber (3 mm depth) was fabricated on a Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) substrate using laser engraving technique. The chamber was covered by a 60 μm thick hyper-elastic latex rubber...

Abstract
The effect of MoS2 lubricant particles on the microstructure, microhardness and tribological behavior of A413/SiCp surface composite, fabricated via friction stir processing (FSP), was studied. For this purpose, the FSP was carried out with tool rotational speed of 1600 r/min, tool travel speed of 25 mm/min and tool tilt angle of 3° through only a “single pass”. The optical and scanning electron microscopies, microhardness and reciprocating wear tests were used to characterize the samples. The results showed that the addition of MoS2 lubricant particles to A413/SiCp surface composite leads to the decrease of friction coefficient and mass loss. In fact, the generation of mechanically mixed...

Abstract
Reciprocal interaction and facial expression are some of the most interesting topics in the fields of social and cognitive robotics. On the other hand, children with autism show a particular interest toward robots, and facial expression recognition can improve these children’s social interaction abilities in real life. In this research, a robotic platform has been developed for reciprocal interaction consisting of two main phases, namely as Non-structured and Structured interaction modes. In the Non-structured interaction mode, a vision system recognizes the facial expressions of the user through a fuzzy clustering method. The interaction decision-making unit is combined with a fuzzy finite...

Abstract
Paraplegic users of mechanical walking orthoses, e.g. advanced reciprocating gait orthosis (ARGO), often face high energy expenditure and extreme upper body loading during locomotion. We studied the effect of kinematical pattern on the mechanical performance of paraplegic locomotion, in search for an improved gait pattern that leads to lower muscular efforts. A three-dimensional, four segment, six-degrees-of-freedom skeletal model of the advanced reciprocating gait orthosis-assisted paraplegic locomotion was developed based on the data acquired from an experimental study on a single subject. The effect of muscles was represented by ideal joint torque generators. A response surface analysis...
Study on Motion of Electrical Conductor Fluid Plug Actuated Electromagnetically in Microsystems
, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology ; Shafii, Mohmmad Behshad (Supervisor) ; Afshin, Hossein (Supervisor)
Abstract
Micropumps are regarded as one of the devices used in microsystems, which are responsible for pumping working fluid. The Mercury Magneto Reciprocating (MMR) micropump, which has been introduced for less than a decade, is an innovative kind of micropumps which the pumping agent includes three liquid metal droplets (LMD) placed inside lateral chambers and reciprocated by the electromagnetic force inside the chambers. The working fluid located inside the main channel is pumped through due to the movement of these three LMDs. The equations governing this micropump are complex and their numerical solution is a time-consuming process, due to electromagnetic, hydrodynamic, and unsteady effects. The...
Kolyvagin’s Theorem
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Rastegar, Arash (Supervisor)
Abstract
Kolyvagin’s theorem, stated in the late 1980s, is a very important theorem in the theory of elliptic curves, which, together with Gross-Zagier’s work, results in a special case of the Birch and Swinerton-Dyer conjecture, which relates algebraic and analytic properties of the rational elliptic curves to each other. Although the correctness of this conjecture, in general, is an open problem, Kolyvagin’s idea and the concepts he introduced while proving his theorem are very powerful and can be applied to more general situations. The purpose of writing this dissertation is to collect the equivalent forms of Kolyvagin’s theorem with proofs of the main results. We will also give a brief overview...
