Theoretical and experimental broadband tissue-equivalent phantoms at microwave and millimetre-wave frequencies
, Article Electronics Letters ; Vol. 50, issue. 8 , April , 2014 , p. 618-620 ; ISSN: 00135194 ; Saviz, M ; Shishegar, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Several phantoms have been fabricated for reflection measurements from human tissues in the range of 26.5-40 GHz. For the first time, a novel composition is introduced for fabrication of low-cost simple tissue-equivalent phantoms. The effective medium theory is applied to estimate the dielectric properties of phantoms consisting of polyethylene (PE) powder and the results are verified by dielectric properties measurement on the proposed phantoms. It is shown that mixing theory can estimate the dielectric properties of the PE-based phantoms with minimum error. Therefore, the amount of the ingredients can be estimated theoretically
Simulation of three different double-fiber probes for reflection sensing
, Article Journal of Applied Sciences ; Volume 10, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 20-28 ; 18125654 (ISSN) ; Golnabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
In this study simulation results for three double-fiber optical designs for the reflection measurements are reported. Modeling is perused for three cases namely Equal Fibers (EF), transmitter fiber shorter (TS) and receiver fiber shorter (RS) designs. By proper modeling and written programs the operations of such symmetric double-fiber probes are simulated and the role of different crucial parameters such as fiber-to-fiber distance (t), fiber core radius (r) and fiber Numerical Aperture (NA) are investigated. In the second study simulation results for the transmitter fiber shorter and receiver fiber shorter designs are investigated for different fiber length differences (w). Finally...
Operation of an opto-mechanical system using a double-cell design for liquid color recognition

Abstract
Design and operation of an opto-mechanical system employing a double-cell is reported here for the color liquid reflection studies. The reported system consists of a double-fiber optical design and an electro-mechanical scanning system. In this arrangement one fiber transmits the source light to the object surface and the second one transmits the light reflected from the sample to a photodetector. By scanning the double-fiber assembly in one-direction reflection properties of different color liquids are investigated. Reflection signals depend on the cell surface structure and the cell filled material. Two sets of flat/cylindrical cells made of almost similar glass materials are used for this...
Operation of an opto-mechanical scanning system for surface profiling using a plastic double-fiber probe
, Article POF 2011: 20th International Conference on Plastic Optical Fibers - Conference Proceeding ; 2011 , Pages 459-464 ; Knowledge Development for POF; POF Application Center; Sojitz Corporation; Hamamatsu Photonics; Optogear ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Operation of an optical system for surface profiling is reported here. Reflection signals for the plane and cylindrical surfaces with different materials are reported. To investigate the precision and sensitivity of the reported system the reflection results of the curved and flat structured surface are compared with that of a structure-free surface. Reported system provides a simple and accurate means for the object shape study through the optical reflection measurements
