Content-based image retrieval based on relevance feedback and reinforcement learning for medical images

    , Article ETRI Journal ; Volume 33, Issue 2 , Apr , 2011 , Pages 240-250 ; 12256463 (ISSN) Lakdashti, A ; Ajorloo, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
To enable a relevance feedback paradigm to evolve itself by users' feedback, a reinforcement learning method is proposed. The feature space of the medical images is partitioned into positive and negative hypercubes by the system. Each hypercube constitutes an individual in a genetic algorithm infrastructure. The rules take recombination and mutation operators to make new rules for better exploring the feature space. The effectiveness of the rules is checked by a scoring method by which the ineffective rules will be omitted gradually and the effective ones survive. Our experiments on a set of 10,004 images from the IRMA database show that the proposed approach can better describe the semantic...

A cooperative learning method based on cellular learning automata and its application in optimization problems

    , Article Journal of Computational Science ; Volume 11 , November , 2015 , Pages 279–288 ; 18777503 (ISSN) Mozafari, M ; Shiri, M. E ; Beigy, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, a novel reinforcement learning method inspired by the way humans learn from others is presented. This method is developed based on cellular learning automata featuring a modular design and cooperation techniques. The modular design brings flexibility, reusability and applicability in a wide range of problems to the method. This paper focuses on analyzing sensitivity of the method's parameters and the applicability in optimization problems. Results of the experiments justify that the new method outperforms similar ones because of employing knowledge sharing technique, reasonable exploration logic, and learning rules based on the action trajectory

Applying reinforcement learning method to optimize an Energy Hub operation in the smart grid

    , Article IEEE Power and Energy Society Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference, ISGT 2015, 18 February through 20 February 2015 ; 2015 ; 9781479917853 (ISBN) Rayati, M ; Sheikhi, A ; Ranjbar, A. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
New days, the concepts of 'Smart Grid' and 'Energy Hub' have been introduced to improve the operation of the energy systems. This paper introduces a new conception entitling Smart Energy Hub (S. E. Hub), as a multi-carrier energy system in a smart grid environment. To show the application of this novel idea, we present a residential S. E. Hub which employs Reinforcement Learning (RL) method for finding a near optimal solution. The simulation results show that by applying the S. E. Hub model and then using the proposed method for a residential customer, running cost is reduced substantially. While, comparing with the classical ones, the RL method does not require any data about the...

    Abstract
In this study, we have used a single link system with a pair of muscles that are excited with alpha and gamma signals to achieve both point to point and oscillatory movements with variable amplitude and frequency. The system is highly nonlinear in all its physical and physiological attributes. The major physiological characteristics of this system are simultaneous activation of a pair of nonlinear musclelike- actuators for control purposes, existence of nonlinear spindle-like sensors and Golgi tendon organlike sensor, actions of gravity and external loading. Transmission delays are included in the afferent and efferent neural paths to account for a more accurate representation of the reflex...
