    Abstract
The reinforcing effect of high structure carbon black (HSCB) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on natural rubber/styrene-butadiene rubber blend processed using mechanical mixing was comparatively investigated. In-depth analysis by dynamic mechanical analysis, the Eggers-Schummer model and Medalia's relationship showed that HSCB aggregates provided large internal pores leading to significant immobilized macromolecules in filled rubber. Additionally, a tubular immobilized rubber layer with a thickness of 8nm was estimated for the rubber/MWCNT system based on dynamic mechanical analysis data. The mechanical performance of the HSCB filled blend was higher than that of the MWCNT filled...

The impact of zirconium oxide nanoparticles content on alginate dialdehyde-gelatin scaffolds in cartilage tissue engineering

    Abstract
The desire to regenerate and repair native tissues can be immediately performed by multiple tissue engineering procedures. Gelatin and alginate are biocompatible and biodegradable polymers. The addition of ZrO2 nanoparticles (NPs) into the alginate-gelatin hydrogel is considered to improve mechanical and chemical properties. Therefore, nanocomposite hydrogels have been manufactured by the freeze-drying procedure utilizing oxidized alginate-gelatin with ZrO2 NPs as a reinforcement. The fabricated nanocomposite hydrogels were character-ized by FTIR, FESEM, and rheometer. The hydrogels containing a higher ZrO2 NPs content (1.5%) have better mechanical properties than the hydrogels without NPs....

    Abstract
In the present study, the hybrid reinforcements (Fe3O4–SiC) novel composite has been successfully fabricated by powder metallurgy method. Adding Fe3O4 nanoparticles and SiC hybrid reinforcements in the aluminium matrix, improved the magnetic permeability of aluminium matrix composites as well as, thermal properties without mechanical degradation. In this study, the aim was to define the influence of SiC–Fe3O4 nanoparticles on microstructural, thermal, electrical, and magnetic properties of the composite. Based on obtained results, the highest density and hardness is 2.72 g/cm3 and 93 HV respectively. Adding (10–30 wt% SiC) into Al–15Fe3O4 slightly improved the magnetic saturation from...

Mechanical performance of styrene-butadiene-rubber filled with carbon nanoparticles prepared by mechanical mixing

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 528, Issue 24 , September , 2011 , Pages 7161-7172 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Saatchi, M. M ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Reinforcement of styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR) was investigated using two different carbon blacks (CBs) with similar particle sizes, including highly structured CB and conventional CB, as well as multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) prepared by mechanical mixing. The attempts were made to examine reinforcing mechanism of these two different classes of carbon nanoparticles. Scanning electron microscopy and electrical conductivity measurement were used to investigate morphology. Tensile, cyclic tensile and stress relaxation analyses were performed. A modified Halpin-Tsai model based on the concept of an equivalent composite particle, consisting of rubber bound, occluded rubber and...
