    Abstract
In this paper the response of cantilevered reinforced concrete (RC) beams with smart rebars under static lateral loading has been numerically studied, using Finite Element Method. The material used in this study is SuperelasticShape Memory Alloys (SE SMAs) which contains nickel and titanium elements. The SE SMA is a unique alloy that has the ability to undergo large deformations and return to their undeformed shape by removal of stresses. In this study, different quantities of steel and smart rebars have been used for reinforcement andthe behavior of these models under lateral loading, including their load-displacement curves, residual displacements, and stiffness, were discussed. During...

Optimization of Municipal Solid Waste Management According to Regional Solid Waste Characterization

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Noureddin, Ahmad (Author) ; Akbari Jokar, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Significant growth in the amount of municipal solid waste generated around the world has turned this phenomenon into a potential crisis in the future. At the same time, applying the right management policies will turn municipal waste into a sustainable source of large-scale revenue generation. With the increasing importance of data in managers' decisions, valuable data have been generated in various fields. One of these data is characterization of municipal solid waste, which should be considered as the first step in determining the policies of an integrated municipal solid waste management system. This paper presents a mixed integer programming model based on two-commodity network flow...

Improving the Seismic Behavior of Asymmetric SMRFs Using Shape Memory Alloy Connections Considering Soil-Structure Interaction

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sefidi Jirandeh, Kosar (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The use of shape memory alloys (SMAs) has been seriously considered in earthquake engineering due to their unique capabilities, such as the ability to tolerate cyclic deformations, recentering, and dissipating energy. Consequently, the effect of hybrid connections (SMA and steel based beam-column connection) in asymmetric structures is investigated in this research.A 4 story steel special moment resisting frame with 0%, 10%, and 20% eccentricities have been considered to find out the performance of a novel beam-column connection in reducing the seismic response of structures such as maximum drift ratio and residual displacement. In order to find out this issue first, the symmetric model has...

Effects of support conditions and arrangement of prestressed rocking columns on the displacement of concrete frames under dynamic loads

    Abstract
In this paper, the effects of rocking and fixed base prestressed columns and conventional reinforced concrete columns on the response of frames are investigated. Also, the influence of some selected rocking base prestressed columns on the response of the concrete frame was studied. Three types of a concrete frame with conventional Reinforced Concrete columns, rocking, and fixed base prestressed columns were modeled using the finite element method in Opensees software. The details of the simulation of the rocking and fixed base columns in Opensees are described precisely. The results obtained from the models were compared with those of the literature to evaluate the validity of the results....
