    Abstract
The relative response factors (RRFs) of a flame ionization detection (FID) system and two pulsed discharge photoionization detection (PID) systems with different discharge gases are predicted for a set of organic compounds containing various functional groups. As a first step, numerical descriptors were calculated based on the molecular structures of compounds. Then, multiple linear regression (MLR) was employed to find informative subsets of descriptors that can predict the RRFs of these compounds. The selected MLR model for the FID system includes seven descriptors and two selected MLR models for the PID systems with argon- and krypton-doped helium as the discharge gases, respectively,...

Prediction of thermal conductivity detection response factors using an artificial neural network

    , Article Journal of Chromatography A ; Volume 897, Issue 1-2 , 2000 , Pages 227-235 ; 00219673 (ISSN) Jalali Heravi, M ; Fatemi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The main aim of the present work was the development of a quantitative structure-activity relationship method using an artificial neural network (ANN) for predicting the thermal conductivity detector response factor. As a first step a multiple linear regression (MLR) model was developed and the descriptors appearing in this model were considered as inputs for the ANN. The descriptors of molecular mass, number of vibrational modes of the molecule, molecular surface area and Balaban index appeared in the MLR model. In agreement with the molecular diameter approach, molecular mass and molecular surface area play a major role in estimating the thermal conductivity detector response factor...

Quantification Of Seismic Performance Factors Of Steel Plate Shear Wall Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kouhi, Zahra (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The AISC Seismic Design Provisions now include capacity design requirements for steel plate shear walls, which consist of thin web plates that infill frames of steel beams, denoted horizontal boundary elements)HBEs), and columns, denoted vertical boundary elements (VBEs). The thin unstiffened web plates are expected to buckle in shear at low load levels and develop tension field action, providing ductility and energy dissipation through tension yielding of the web plate. HBEs are designed for stiffness and strength requirements and are expected to anchor the tension field formation in the web plates. VBEs are designed for yielding of web plates and plastic hinge formation at the ends of the...

Evaluate and Compare the Performance of Steel Zipper Frames under Far and near Faults Earthquake

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Torkamaneh Parneshani, Ehsan (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Zipper frames were proposed to provide a solution of prevention of forming soft Story due to the existence of unbalanced vertical load in Chevron frames. In this study, at first, by performing a nonlinear pushover analysis on the 2D zipper frames with 3, 7 and 12 story and 3 span that the middle one are braced, a Response modification factor for zipper frames is proposed. Then, The seismic behavior of zipper frames is evaluated under far and near-fault earthquakes by nonlinear time history analysis and at the end of the research, the cyclic behavior and energy absorption capacity of these frames are compared with the 2-story-X chevron frames with 3 and 7 story. It is concluded that the...

Quantification of Seismic Performance Factors in Off-Center Bracing System(OBS) Equipped with Knee Element

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asefi, Hamed (Author) ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
OBS Bracing System is a kind of concentric bracing frame that consists of three members and with y-shape layout can provide a necessary opening in the building. In this investigation will evalouate OBS Bracing System with Knee element. Buildings equipped with OBS-Knee bracing system considered SCBF. To design these buildings according to regulations, it is needed to have Seismic performance coefficients such as response modification factor (R), over strength factor (Ω0) and deflection amplification factor (Cd). The purpose of the present investigation is quantifying these parameters and evaluation of accuracy based on the proposed method in FEMA P695. In the mentioned method, at first by...
