    Lithium perchlorate promoted highly regioselective ring opening of epoxides under solvent-free conditions

    Abstract
    A simple and efficient synthesis of diol diesters, protected chlorohydrins, chlorohydrins and β-hydroxy azides with acetyl or benzoyl, TMSN3 and TMSCl groups has been achieved by ring opening of epoxides with acetic anhydride, acetyl chloride or benzoyl chloride and TMSN3 using catalytic amount of lithium perchlorate under solvent-free conditions. All reactions proceeded in short times and afforded the corresponding products in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. LiClO4 shows enhanced reactivity for the ring opening of epoxides under solvent-free conditions, therefore, reducing the reaction times dramatically and improved the yields and amount of catalyst. © 2007...

    Abstract
    The synthesis of nanocomposites via in situ grafting polymerization due to its ability to produce polymeric materials with promising microscopic and macroscopic characteristics is becoming very attractive. In this paper, different poly(L-Lactide)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PLLA-b-PCL) copolymers were in situ synthesized in the presence of modified titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (mTNP) as the initiator and stannous octoate as the catalyst. The surface of TiO2 was modified by grafting aminopropyl trimethoxy silane to improve initiator efficiency.     Carbon nanotube-graft-block copolymers containing silver nanoparticles

    Abstract
    Polycaprolactone-polylactide block copolymers (PCL-block-PLA) were grafted onto filled multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) successfully. In this synthesis, MWCNTs were opened and functionalized, and then they were filled by silver nanoparticles. The filled MWCNT were used as macroinitiator for ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone and L-lactide. Then the end hydroxyl functional groups of MWCNT-graft-PCL or MWCNT-graft-PLA were used as initiator for ring opening polymerization of lactide and ε-caprolactone and MWCNT-graft-PCL-block-PLA or MWCNT-graft-PLA-block-PCL were obtained, respectively.     Incorporating titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles into the polymeric matrix offers an opportunity to obtain nanocomposites with improved functionality. In this study, the commercial TiO2 nanoparticles (TNP) were surface treated by different concentrations of aminopropyl triethoxy silane (APTS) as a coupling agent and triethylamine (Et3N) as a surface grafting catalyst by an aqueous process to prepare a nanocomposite with superior properties.
