Impact of temporal correlations on high risk outbreaks of independent and cooperative SIR dynamics

    , Article PLoS ONE ; Volume 16, Issue 7 July , 2021 ; 19326203 (ISSN) Sajjadi, S ; Ejtehadi, M. R ; Ghanbarnejad, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    Public Library of Science  2021
    Abstract
We first propose a quantitative approach to detect high risk outbreaks of independent and coinfective SIR dynamics on three empirical networks: A school, a conference and a hospital contact network. This measurement is based on the k-means clustering method and identifies proper samples for calculating the mean outbreak size and the outbreak probability. Then we systematically study the impact of different temporal correlations on high risk outbreaks over the original and differently shuffled counterparts of each network. We observe that, on the one hand, in the coinfection process, randomization of the sequence of the events increases the mean outbreak size of high-risk cases. On the other...

The Impact of House’s Recession on Banks’ Default Rate In The Framework of Stress Testing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Faraji, Sara (Author) ; Nili, Farhad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aim of this paper is to perform macro stress test for one of Iran’s private banks using bank’s quarterly data from Q-4 1383 to Q-4 1389. To do this, the relation of bank’s default rate with macroeconomic indicators like house prices and the growth rate of value added of services; as macroeconomic risk factors; was investigated by a linear model. Results show that the bank’s default rate has a negative relation with both risk factors.Stress testing, using monte carlo simulation; shows that reverse shocks to both house prices and the growth rate of value added of services leads to severe increase in bank’s default rate; so that with decrease of both house prices to 4 million rials at...

    Abstract
Low back disorders (LBD) is one of the most musculo-skeletal disorders in industrial environments in which it can impose to the society. Therefore, it is very important to reaserch the causes of LBDs, prevention methods and evaluation risk factor in lifting tasks in order to avoid the prevalence of LBDs in society. There is no doubt heavy lifting has a significant role in emerging of LBDs. Hence, many safety risk assessment tools have been made by researchers.Using assessment tools, we need to know the input parameters corrospending to the assessment tools. Input parameters in assessment tools have been measured in a way of traditional method or by expensive equipment in laboratories. On...

Risk Management in Projects by Bayesian Belief Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Chitgar, Siamak (Author) ; Haji, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Risk management is one of the important phases of a project life cycle. There are several quantitative and qualitative methods to determine and plan the proper reaction risks in a project. These methods aim to prevent additional and unnecessary costs. Project managers, stake holders and beneficiaries always believe that risk management of project engineering as one of the importance parts. Although there are multiple methods that can evaluate risk, but there is still research problems especially for risk qualitative and quantitative prediction. This gets more serious after evaluating and minimizing risks effects considering the other risks’ damaging effects which have not been considered. In...

Autoregressive modeling of the photoplethysmogram AC signal amplitude changes after flow-mediated dilation in healthy and diabetic subjects

    , Article 2012 19th Iranian Conference of Biomedical Engineering, ICBME 2012 ; 2012 , Pages 170-173 ; 9781467331302 (ISBN) Amiri, M ; Zahedi, E ; Behnia, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
It is proved that the endothelial (artery inner lumen cells) function is associated with cardiovascular risk factors. Among all the common non-invasive methods employed in the research setting for assessing endothelial function, flow-mediated dilation is the most widely used one. This technique measures endothelial function by inducing reactive hyperemia using temporary arterial occlusion and measuring the resultant relative increase in blood vessel diameter via ultrasound. In this paper, the limitations associated with the ultrasound technique are overcome by using the photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal recorded during FMD. The correctness of this approach is investigated by modeling the AC...

Effect of dyslipidemia on a simple morphological feature extracted from photoplethysmography flow mediated dilation

    Abstract
Dyslipidemia is considered to be one of the main heart risk factors, affecting the endothelial vascular function, which can be non-invasively investigated by ultrasound flow-mediated dilation (US-FMD). However, US-FMD comes at a high-cost and is operator-dependent. In this paper, the effect of dyslipidemia on the photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal recorded from collateral index fingers is investigated following a previous study where it was shown that results similar to that of US-FMD can be replicated by the PPG. Two groups, consisting of 30 healthy subjects free from any risk factors and 30 subjects who have only dyslipidemia as risk factor were respectively considered. The percent change in...

How do the smart travel ban policy and intercity travel pattern affect COVID-19 trends? Lessons learned from Iran

    Abstract
COVID-19, as the most significant epidemic of the century, infected 467 million people and took the lives of more than 6 million individuals as of March 19, 2022. Due to the rapid transmission of the disease and the lack of definitive treatment, countries have employed non-pharmaceutical interventions. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the smart travel ban policy, which has been implemented for non-commercial vehicles in the intercity highways of Iran since November 21, 2020. The other goal was to suggest efficient COVID-19 forecasting tools and to examine the association of intercity travel patterns and COVID-19 trends in Iran. To this end, weekly confirmed cases and...

Effect of whole-body vibration and sitting configurations on lumbar spinal loads of vehicle occupants

    , Article Computers in Biology and Medicine ; Volume 107 , 2019 , Pages 292-301 ; 00104825 (ISSN) Amiri, S ; Naserkhaki, S ; Parnianpour, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Whole-body vibration (WBV) has been identified as one of the serious risk factors leading to spinal disorders, particularly in professional drivers. Although the influential factors in this area have been investigated epidemiologically, finite element (FE) modeling can efficiently help us better understand the problem. In this study, a modified HYBRID III dummy FE model which was enhanced by detailed viscoelastic discs in the lumbar region was utilized to simulate the effect of WBV on lumbar spine loads. Spinal responses to the vertical sinusoidal vibrations of a generic seat were obtained and spinal injury risk factors were calculated. Effects of variation of excitation frequencies, three...

The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 provides a rules-based synthesis of the available evidence on levels and trends in health outcomes, a diverse set of risk factors, and health system responses. GBD 2019 covered 204 countries and territories, as well as first administrative level disaggregations for 22 countries, from 1990 to 2019. Because GBD is highly standardised and comprehensive, spanning both fatal and non-fatal outcomes, and uses a mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive list of hierarchical disease and injury causes, the study provides a powerful basis for detailed and broad insights on global health trends and emerging challenges. GBD...

    Abstract
Background: Stomach cancer is a major health problem in many countries. Understanding the current burden of stomach cancer and the differential trends across various locations is essential for formulating effective preventive strategies. We report on the incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) due to stomach cancer in 195 countries and territories from 21 regions between 1990 and 2017. Methods: Estimates from GBD 2017 were used to analyse the incidence, mortality, and DALYs due to stomach cancer at the global, regional, and national levels. The rates were standardised to the GBD world population and reported per 100 000 population as age-standardised incidence rates,...

    Abstract
Background Oesophageal cancer is a common and often fatal cancer that has two main histological subtypes: oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma and oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Updated statistics on the incidence and mortality of oesophageal cancer, and on the disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) caused by the disease, can assist policy makers in allocating resources for prevention, treatment, and care of oesophageal cancer. We report the latest estimates of these statistics for 195 countries and territories between 1990 and 2017, by age, sex, and Socio-demographic Index (SDI), using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2017 (GBD). Methods We used data...

Search for critical loading condition of the spine-A meta analysis of a nonlinear viscoelastic finite element model

    Abstract
The relative vulnerability of spinal motion segments to different loading combinations remains unknown. The meta-analysis described here using the results of a validated L2-L3 nonlinear viscoelastic finite element model was designed to investigate the critical loading and its effect on the internal mechanics of the human lumbar spine. A Box-Behnken experimental design was used to design the magnitude of seven independent variables associated with loads, rotations and velocity of motion. Subsequently, an optimization method was used to find the primary and secondary variables that influence spine mechanical output related to facet forces, disc pressure, ligament forces, annulus matrix...

Identifying and Ranking Supply Chain Risk Factors and Calculating Reliability in 3 Level Supply Chain

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kardar Rostami, Reza (Author) ; Eshraghnia Jahromi, Abdolhamid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Since 1990, supply chains get affected by business environment changes and become more vulnerable. Changes such as globalization, decrease of inventory levels, out sourcing, etc. in this thesis after reviewing some paper, researches are categorized in 8 group. Then 30 risk factor identified from this papers. Because of basic differences in industries and different importance of risk factors in them, a case was studied in one industrial area and risk factors was evaluated in a two-step evaluation. Eventually some advices presented for increasing reliability for that case

Development and Validation of Biomechanical Model for Calculation of Moment into the Intervertebral L5-S1 Disc and the amount of NIOSH Permissible Limit Load During Lifting Activity

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rajabtabar, Mahmood (Author) ; Parnianpor, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Narimani, Roya (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Lifting is considered a major risk to people's health in life, particularly to the workers. Appropriate wearable tools for measuring the individual’s kinematic and kinetic movement are required for examining and analyzing the lifting activity to prevent injury in the workplace. Different wearable systems have been developed to calculate the force applied on the foot sole to analyze movement in various areas of gait analysis, occupational biomechanics, sports, and other areas. The accuracy and precision of these systems need to be tested before application in any of these areas. In this study, 3 subjects performed five different activities of symmetrical lifting by placing Pedar insoles in...

Obesity and obesity shape markedly influence spine biomechanics: a subject-specific risk assessment model

    , Article Annals of Biomedical Engineering ; Volume 45, Issue 10 , 2017 , Pages 2373-2382 ; 00906964 (ISSN) Ghezelbash, F ; Shirazi Adl, A ; Plamondon, A ; Arjmand, N ; Parnianpour, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Underlying mechanisms of obesity-related back pain remain unexplored. Thus, we aim to determine the effect of obesity and its shapes on the spinal loads and the associated risks of injury. Obesity shapes were initially constructed by principal component analysis based on datasets on 5852 obese individuals. Spinal loads, cycles to vertebral failure and trunk stability margin were estimated in a subject-specific trunk model taking account of personalized musculature, passive ligamentous spine, obesity shapes, segmental weights, spine kinematics and bone mineral density. Three obesity shapes (mean and extreme abdominal circumferences) at three body weights (BWs) of 86, 98 and 109 kg were...
