    , Article Journal of Solid Mechanics ; Vol. 6, issue. 3 , 2014 , pp. 322-333 ; ISSN: 20083505 Zamani, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Ring rolling is one of the most significant methods for producing rings with highly precise dimensions and superior qualities such as high strength uniformity, all accomplished without wasting any materials. In this article, we have achieved analytical formulas for calculating the pressure and shear friction over the contact arcs between the rollers and ring in the ring rolling process for the material in general nonlinear hardening property. We have also asserted the best mathematical model to predict friction for rolling processes. The method we use is based on calculating the analytical stress distribution. In other words, by using of Saint-Venan principal the stress components are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Ghalehtaki, Behzad (Author) ; Ekrami, Ali Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
St52 was heated at 745°C for 70 minutes and then quenched into a salt bath at 400°C. To obtain different volume fraction of bainite and martensite with constant volume fraction of ferrite (67%), samples were quenched into water after different times. Presence of three phases of ferrite, bainite and martensite was proved by optical microscope and hardness test. Different volume fractions were measured by image analysis. Optical microscope results showed that with increasing of martensite up to 9.4%, morphology of martensite is a uniform distribution of small and sphere particles. These samples then were cold worked at various degrees. Tensile test and hardness test show that increasing the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Janbozorgi, Mohammad (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Special features of magnesium such as low density, perfect bio-compatibility in the human body, and close elastic modulus to the human bone have increased the use of Mg alloys in the bio-medical applications. Nevertheless, low mechanical properties and poor corrosion resistance of Mg alloys have limited their bio-medical applications. The addition of alloying elements together with the use of precipitation hardening and plastic deformation are the most effective methods to improve the mechanical properties and increase the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys. Thus, the present research with the aim of improving the mechanical properties of an Mg-Zn alloy by Ca and Gd additions together with...

    Abstract
In this research the deformation of wire in flat rolling process has been investigated. A theoretical relationship has been developed to relate the reduction in height of wire to the width of contact area between the rolls and wire. This relationship depicts that the width of contact area is proportional to square root of reduction in height of wire. Using that relationship the width of contact area for wires of different diameter have been calculated and compared with the appropriate experimental data after flat rolling. Also, a relationship is developed to assess the effect of reduction in height of wire on the lateral spread in wire flat rolling process. Moreover, the effect of material...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jamali, Mohsen (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor) ; Seyyed Reihani, Morteza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Particulate ceramic reinforced aluminum matrix composites have high specific strength and stiffness; however, low fracture toughness and deformability have restricted their industrial applications. Among the methods introduced to overcome this shortcoming is fabricating the layered composites which contain alternative layers of aluminum (Al) and discontinuously reinforced aluminum (DRA). In this study, two different routes; i.e., "Powder extrusion - Casting - Rolling" and "Powder extrusion - Roll bonding" were employed to produce layered Al-DRA composites. After production of Al6061/SiCp composites via hot powder extrusion, mentioned processes were utilized to make DRA-Al-DRA laminate. In...

    Abstract
In this paper the finite element method and Monte Carlo model are coupled to simulate the grain size distribution of inhomogeneously deformed copper wire after annealing. The wire flat rolling process is chosen as an inhomogeneous deformation. The finite element method is utilized to calculate the stored energy distribution due to deformation and is then used in Monte Carlo model to obtain the distribution of grain size. A new relationship is developed to simulate the nucleation in recrystallization phenomenon. The modeling results are compared with the experimental results and an acceptable agreement is achieved. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Abstract
A mathematical model is proposed to predict the flow stress behaviour of aluminium alloys under hot rolling conditions. To do so, a dislocation model for evaluating flow stress during deformation is coupled with a finite element analysis to access metal behaviour under non-isothermal and variable strain rate conditions. Then, with the aid of the proposed model, a hot strip rolling process was simulated. In order to verify modelling results, flow stress behaviour of an aluminium alloy is studied employing hot compression tests in various temperatures and strain rates and the model was examined on this material. Non-isothermal hot rolling experiments were carried out and good agreement was...

Then a steady state heat transfer equation has been solved in whole model using finite element method. In order to verify the predictions, rolling experiments on aluminum plates were conducted and also, a finite element analysis performed employing...

An Investigation on Multistage Strain Aging Using Rolling Process on Mechanical and Formability of Stainless Steel 304L

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mousavinia, Ali (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor) ; Akbarzadeh Changiz, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Austenitic stainless steels have extensive and special mechanical properties because of austenite to α΄-martensite transformation due to plastic work. Obtaining a process path that provides maximum strength and flexibility and minimum α΄-martensite content (α΄-martensite increases corrosion current) in these steels is important in the industry. Applying the aging process after applying plastic strain (single-stage aging) results in an increase in strength of up to 200 MPa and an increase in hardness of up to 60 Vickers. However, single-stage aging does not cause significant changes in the amount of α΄-martensite in steel and in the temperature range of 400 to 500 ° C, it causes a slight...

    , Article Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B: Process Metallurgy and Materials Processing Science ; 2012 , Pages 1-11 ; 10735615 (ISSN) Khalili, L ; Serajzadeh, S ; Koohbor, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A mathematical model was developed to assess thermomechanical behavior of work rolls during warm rolling processes. Finally, the thermomechanical stresses within the work rolls were predicted by a thermoelastic finite element approach. The results of the model indicate that, in warm strip rolling, thermal and mechanical stresses developed in the work rolls are...

    Abstract
In this research, the samples of a low carbon steel sheet were rolled up to a thickness prestrain of 67% at three different temperatures consisted of room, blue brittleness, and subzero temperature. Microhardness, SEM, and tensile tests were carried out to evaluate the static recrystallization kinetics defined by the Avrami equation, microstructural evolution, and mechanical properties. It was found that the Avrami exponent is altered with change in prestrain temperature and it achieves the value of 1 to 1. 5. Moreover, it was indicated that prestraining at subzero temperature followed by annealing at 600 °C leads to considerable enhancement in tensile properties and kinetics of static...

    , Article Computational Materials Science ; Volume 49, Issue 4 , 2010 , Pages 773-781 ; 09270256 (ISSN) Seyed Salehi, M ; Serajzadeh, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This paper presents a new scheme to apply artificial neural network (ANN) in prediction of static recrystallization (SRX) kinetics. Firstly, based on empirical data of SRX kinetics, a mathematical model is suggested to construct a neural network. Finally, a thermo-mechanical finite element analysis is coupled with the proposed ANN to predict static recrystallization kinetics in hot rolling process of AA5083. To verify the model, the predicted results and the experimental data are compared and it is observed that there is a good consistency...
