Influence of compatibilizer and processing conditions on morphology, mechanical properties, and deformation mechanism of PP/clay nanocomposite

    , Article Journal of Nanomaterials ; Volume 2012 , 2012 ; 16874110 (ISSN) Akbari, B ; Bagheri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Polypropylene/montmorillonite nanocomposite was prepared by melt intercalation method using a twin-screw extruder with starve feeding system in this paper. The effects of compatibilizer, extruder rotor speed and feeding rate on properties of nanocomposite were investigated. Structure, tensile, and impact properties and deformation mechanism of the compounds were studied. For investigation of structure and deformation mechanisms, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission optical microscopy (TOM) techniques were utilized, respectively. The results illustrate that introduction of the compatibilizer and also variation of the processing conditions affect structure and mechanical properties of...

Investigation of a centrifugal compressor and study of the area ratio and TIP clearance effects on performance

    , Article Journal of Thermal Science ; Volume 17, Issue 4 , December , 2008 , Pages 314-323 ; 10032169 (ISSN) Nili Ahmadabadi, M ; Hajilouy Benisi, A ; Durali, M ; Ghadak, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this research, the centrifugal compressor of a turbocharger is investigated experimentally and numerically. Performance characteristics of the compressor were obtained experimentally by measurements of rotor speed and flow parameters at the inlet and outlet of the compressor. Three dimensional flow field in the impeller and diffuser was analyzed numerically using a full Navier-Stokes program with SST turbulence model. The performance characteristics of the compressor were obtained numerically, which were then compared with the experimental results. The comparison shows good agreement. Furthermore, the effect of area ratio and tip clearance on the performance parameters and flow field was...

Compensation of transient error in sensorless alternating carrier injection scheme

    , Article IECON Proceedings (Industrial Electronics Conference) ; 2012 , Pages 1702-1706 ; 9781467324212 (ISBN) Ghazimoghadam, M. A ; Tahami, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
High frequency (HF) carrier injection schemes can estimate rotor position in a wide speed range. In these methods, first a HF voltage is injected to stator windings and then the corresponding HF current is exploited to estimate the position of rotor using a closed loop tracking observer. The tracking observer is capable to track rotor saliency with no steady state error. However when the motor starts to move or whenever the rotor speed changes a transient error appears. In this paper a new solution is proposed to compensate the transient error in estimation of rotor position

    Abstract
Sensorless schemes based on HF carrier injection are capable of estimating rotor position in a wide speed range. In these schemes first an additional HF voltage is injected to stator windings. The corresponding HF current is decoupled from main stator currents and the position of the rotor saliency is estimated based on the decoupled HF current in a closed loop tracking observer. The tracking observer is capable of tracking rotor saliency with no steady state error. Transient error appears when the motor starts to move or whenever the rotor speed changes because of any disturbance or any change in the rotor speed command. In this paper a new solution is proposed in order to compensate for...

Novel sensorless fault-tolerant pitch control of a horizontal axis wind turbine with a new hybrid approach for effective wind velocity estimation

    Abstract
In this research, the fault-tolerant pitch angle control of a horizontal axis wind turbine in region 3 (where the wind velocity is greater than rated wind speed) is investigated. The effective wind velocity (EWV) is one of the necessary information for each control system. Wind speed is measured by the anemometers on the top of the nacelle however, the measurement is not precise and is only applicable for one point in the rotor. To address this issue, we have developed a novel hybrid approach. The approach is based on a sliding mode observer to estimate the aerodynamic torque and an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is introduced for obtaining the EWV. The estimated aerodynamic...

Dynamic behavior analysis of doubly-fed induction generator wind turbines - The influence of rotor and speed controller parameters

    , Article International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems ; Volume 32, Issue 5 , June , 2010 , Pages 464-477 ; 01420615 (ISSN) Rahimi, M ; Parniani, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper analytically investigates the effects of system and controller parameters and operating conditions on the dynamic and transient behavior of wind turbines (WTs) with doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) under voltage dips and wind speed fluctuations. Also, it deals with the design considerations regarding rotor and speed controllers. The poorly damped electrical and mechanical modes of the system are identified, and the effects of system parameters, and speed/rotor controllers on these modes are investigated by modal and sensitivity analyses. The results of theoretical studies are verified by time domain simulations. It is found that the dynamic behavior of the DFIG-based WT...
