Experimental investigation of single walue variables of three-dimensional density current

    Abstract
The height of a dense layer underflow is defined as the interface between a dyed saline solution fluid and colorless ambient fluid. In this paper, the density current height or vision height of three-dimensional saline water under pure water is measured empirically, and the relation of this parameter with the location of maximum velocity is investigated. Because of the absence of a clear interface between the dense underflow and pure water, researchers were unable to define a unique parameter for the evaluation of density current height. The parameters used by some researchers include the height corresponding to the location of maximum, half-maximum, and quarter-maximum velocity in the...

Effect of salts and their interaction with ingenious surfactants on the interfacial tension of crude oil/ionic solution

    Abstract
Understanding the roles of asphaltene and resin as natural surfactants existed in crude oil can enlighten contradicting reported results regarding interfacial tension (IFT) of crude oil/aqueous solution as a function of salinity and ion type. In this way, this study is aimed to investigate the effect of these natural surface active agents on IFT of with special focus on SO42− anion and Mg2+ cation. Two different synthetic oil solutions of 8 wt% of the extracted asphaltene and resin dissolved in toluene are prepared, and then IFT values are measured. After that, the obtained results are compared with the IFT of intact crude oil in contact with the same saline solutions examined in the...

Enhanced active/barrier corrosion protective properties of epoxy coatings containing eco-friendly green inorganic/organic hybrid pigments based on zinc cations/Ferula Asafoetida leaves

    Abstract
In this study, a novel inorganic/organic hybrid pigment based on zinc cations/Ferula Asafoetida leaves extract (Zn-FALE) was synthesized, and its corrosion protection properties were investigated in a saline solution and an organic coating. Interactions of components between Zn2+ cations and FALE were assessed by thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and ultraviolet-visible (UV–visible) spectroscopy. Corrosion inhibitive performance of FALE and Zn-FALE pigments in the solution phase and coating phase was studied using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). TGA and UV–visible results revealed the proper chelation between inorganic and organic components of...

In vitro bactericidal and drug release properties of vancomycin-amino surface functionalized bioactive glass nanoparticles

    Abstract
Bioactive glass has been used clinically in bone repair applications for bone grafting because of its prominent physiochemical and osteogenic properties. Various attempts have been made to enhance bioactive glass efficiency in combination with other biomaterials such as antibiotics and growth factors. In present study, we developed a modification of bioactive glass nanoparticles that insured long term antibacterial effect. Bioactive glass nanoparticles (BGNs) were functionalized with (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTS), then vancomycin (VAN) was immobilized onto BGNs-APTS via EDC/NHS cross-linking process. Another study group namely BGNs-VAN was synthesized as a control group without any...

PH-Sensitive polydopamine–La (III) complex decorated on carbon nanofiber toward on-demand release functioning of epoxy anti-corrosion coating

    Abstract
The high aspect ratio and unique thermal and electrical characteristics of carbon nanofiber (CNF) made it an ideal physical barrier against the penetration of corrosive ions. However, the poor compatibility of the CNF with the polymer matrix and the lack of active corrosion inhibitors are the key limitations of this nanomaterial, resulting in short-term anti-corrosion resistance. An intelligent self-healing epoxy (EP) coating, including CNF modified with a polydopamine (PDA)-La3+ complex, was successfully fabricated to overcome these issues. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) evaluation implied that mild steel (MS) submerged in a 3.5 wt % NaCl solution containing the CNF-PDA-La...
