    Abstract
    We have used molecular dynamics simulation to investigate hydrophilic– hydrophobic interfaces between calcium chloride (CaCl2) aqueous solutions and normal hexane. The results demonstrate the increasing impact of salt concentration on the liquid–liquid interfacial tension, hence, negative adsorption of CaCl2 according to Gibbs adsorption isotherm. Moreover, we calculated the density profiles of hexane, water, and the counter ions. The results reveal an electrical double layer near the interface and the less affinity of calcium cations toward the interface than that of chloride anions.     Abstract
    A CFD code has been developed to describe the salt solution density current, which propagates three-dimensionally in deep ambient water. The height and width of the dense layer are two dominated length scales in a 3-D structure of the density current. In experimental efforts, it is common to measure the height and width of this current via its brightness. Although there are analytical relations to calculate the current height in a two-dimensional flow, these relations cannot be used to identify the width and height of a 3-D density current, due to the existence of two unknown parameters.     A novel hydrolyzed collagen-based hydrogel has been prepared by grafting the binary mixture of acrylamide and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid onto the collagen backbone in the presence of a cross-linking agent. Its physicochemical properties in aqueous solution were studied. The effect of reaction variables on both gel content and swelling capacity was investigated to achieve a hydrogel with improved absorbency and gel content.     In this study, we have investigated the bioleaching potential of a native strain of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans isolated from zinc and lead sulfide mines under varied ambient conditions of growth and substrate consumption. The effects of intermittent irrigation, type of agglomeration, feed formulation in terms of acid, enriched salt solution, initial number of microorganism, and their interactions on the bioleaching of low-grade zinc sulfide ores (containing 5.78% zinc) on growth and biooxidation efficiency of the bacteria have been evaluated.     Retention of lead(II) ions on a polyamide nanofiltration membrane was investigated. Effects of different factors including operating pressure, lead ion concentration, anion nature, pH and composition of feed on the lead ion rejection were studied.     Novel polyampholytic superabsorbing nanocomposites based on the zwitterionic sulfobetaine monomer [3-(methacrylamido)propyl)]dimethyl(3- sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide were synthesized through in situ polymerization in aqueous solution with different contents of an organo-modified clay (OMMT, Cloisite 30B).     Synthesis and swelling behavior of a new superabsorbent hydrogel based on natural salep grafted with Polyacrylamide is described. The new superabsorbent hydrogel biopolymer was synthesized via radical crosslink-ing and graft copolymerization of acrylamide monomer onto salep backbones.     In this study, the impacts of salinity, ion type, and aging process were investigated on coalescence and spreading of crude oil interfaces (including an oil droplet and an oil film) under gravity, through drop rest time measurement techniques, aided by an image analysis system. Three different salt solutions of NaCl, Na2SO4, and MgCl2 were studied at different ionic strengths, ranged from 1% to 150% of Persian Gulf seawater ionic strength. According to the results, aging the oil droplet in the brine increased the interfacial rigidity.     The synthesis of a novel superabsorbent hydrogel with natural hybrid backbone via graft copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) onto kappa-carrageenan (kC, as a polysaccharide) and gelatin (as a protein) under classic thermal conditions is described.
