    Abstract
This study provides a comprehensive literature review to summarize all contributing factors and the logit-based models that were used to predict the severity of crashes. Using the General Estimates Systems (GES) dataset, as a subset and a branch of the National Automotive Sampling System in the US, a Generalized Ordered Logit (GLM) model is developed to predict the crash severity. The developed severity model detects the most important parameters based on characteristics of the driver, the environment, the vehicle, the road, and the type of crash. This study aims to take a more in-depth look into the distraction-related factors as one of the most important groups of contributing factors to...

An MPC method based on a hybrid model of a three-phase inverter with output LC- filter

    , Article 2012 3rd Power Electronics and Drive Systems Technology, PEDSTC 2012, 15 February 2012 through 16 February 2012 ; February , 2012 , Pages 170-174 ; 9781467301114 (ISBN) Mazaheri, B ; Mokhtari, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Controlling inverters with LC output filters in order to achieve a high quality desired output voltage or current is a challenging problem in power electronics. The LC filter and the binary nature of switch state variables increase the difficulty of achieving a single comprehensive model for the system. In this paper, a hybrid model is presented for a three-phase inverter with an LC output filter and a three-phase RL load. Then, the Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm is applied to the model and a geometrical approximate method is used to fit the answers to the binary values. Simulation results for a sample system verify the usability of the method and the quality of the answers

    Abstract
Research projects in urban transportation systems require proper simulation softwares. Such softwares are the basic requirements of any kind of study in electrical transportation systems. Due to high energy consumption of these systems, studies for its optimization are challenging and necessary. In this paper an optimized timetable of trains? movement is proposed in order to completely utilize the regenerative energy of trains? braking in stations. A sample subway system is simulated and Genetic algorithm is used as an optimization method. The effect of headway and reserve times on the amount of energy consumption is studied and an optimized reserve time set is found for the sample system....

Linear and nonlinear approaches towards amplitude modulation atomic force microscopy

    Abstract
Frequency response behavior of microcantilever is analytically and experimentally investigated in amplitude modulation Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). AFM microcantilever probe is modeled as a continuous beam, and tip-sample interaction force is considered to include both attractive and repulsive force regimes. The developed model is compared with the linear lumped-parameters model that has been extensively used in the literature so far. Experimental measurements are also provided for the frequency response of a typical microcantilever-sample system to demonstrate the advantages of the developed model over the linear formulation. The results indicate that the nonlinear continuous model is...

Fuzzy generation scheduling for a generation company (GenCo) with large scale wind farms

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 51, Issue 10 , 2010 , Pages 1947-1957 ; 01968904 (ISSN) Siahkali, H ; Vakilian, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Wind power is a promising alternative in power generation because of its tremendous environmental and social benefits. Generation scheduling (GS) is more important in a power system integrating wind farms. Unlike conventional power generation sources, wind power generators supply intermittent power because of uncertainty in resource. This paper presents a fuzzy approach to the generation scheduling problem of a GenCo considering uncertainties in parameters or constraints such as load, reserve and available wind power generation. The modeling of constraints is an important issue in power system scheduling. A fuzzy optimization approach is an approach that can be used to obtain the generation...

    Abstract
In high-speed analog-To-digital converters (ADCs), two main factors contribute to high power consumption. The first is the super linear relationship with the sampling rate; i.e., by doubling the sampling rate, the power consumption more than doubles. The second factor arises from the consumption of analog circuitry responsible to mitigate the jitter noise. By employing a multichannel sampling system, one can achieve high sampling rates by incorporating multiple low sampling-rate channels, which results in a linear scaling of power consumption with the number of channels. The main drawback of this system is the timing mismatch between the sampling channels. In this paper, we intend to jointly...
