    , Article 3rd Mediterranean Photonics Conference, MePhoCo ; 7 - 9 May , 2014 , pp. 1 - 3 ; ISBN: 9781479948185 Tofighi, S ; Afsary, M ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
The non-paraxial and vectorial effects have an important role in the dynamics of highly confined beam in nonlinear medium. In this paper, we study the vectorial non-paraxial propagation of Gaussian field in the saturable absorber media numerically with the aim of nano-lithography. It is shown that in the optimal regimes for nanolithography, the mutual coupling between components of optical field and mode coupling between different orders of Hermite-Gaussian mode lead to generation of various patterns upon propagation through saturable absorber media. The vectorial effect is responsible for the symmetry breaking. For converging input beam, while the intense part of the beam goes toward the...

    Abstract
In this paper a saturable absorber medium is employed as an optical limiter to reduce the spot size to the range of several tens of nanometres. The characteristics of a Gaussian beam are theoretically analysed upon propagation through the saturable absorber medium. Based on Maxwell equations a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations for intensity, beam radius and beam curvature is obtained. Theoretical analyses and numerical results show that the behaviour of a Gaussian beam in a saturable absorber medium strongly depends on the initial characteristics of the laser beam. Numerical results indicate that, depending on the initial conditions and a suitable saturable absorber...

Investigation of Optical Bistability in Quantum Dot and Erbium Doped Fiber Ring Resonator

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saleki, Ziba (Author) ; Bahrampour, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Optical bistability is one of the most important results of nonlinear optics. The term optical bistability refers to the situation in which two different output intensities are possible for a given input intensity. Interest in optical bistability stems from its potential usefulness as a switch for use in optical communication and in optical computing. Optical bistability is resulted by nonlinear phenomena such as kerr effect, two photon absorption and saturable absorber. In this thesis, we study the optical bistability in a double-coupler ring resonator, in which the right half of ring is made of an erbium doped fiber amplifier for compensating the loss by the gain of EDFA, and the left half...

    Abstract
In this paper, the transient response of a double coupler fiber ring resonator containing an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in half part of the fiber ring resonator and a quantum dot-doped fiber (QDF) saturable absorber in the other half, is investigated. It is demonstrated that, depending on the device parameters and the input power of the signal and pump, various types of dynamic behaviors (such as bistability, monostability, and regenerative pulsation) can be observed in this intrinsic, optical bistable device. The proposed device can be exploited by optical communication networks to realize all-optical functionalities

    Abstract
In this paper we study the optical bistability in a double coupler fiber ring resonator which consists of an erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in half part of the fiber ring and a quantum dot doped fiber (QDF) saturable absorber in the other half. The bistability is provided by the QDF section of the ring resonator. The EDFA is employed to reduce the switching power. The transmitted and reflected bistability characteristics are investigated. It is shown that the switching power for this new bistable device is less than 10 mW

A theoretical analysis of the effects of erbium ion pair on the dynamics of an optical gain stabilized fiber amplifier

    Abstract
In this paper, the effects of ion-pair formation on the gain dynamics of multi cavity optical automatic gain control erbium doped fiber amplifier is modelled. The inhomogeneous Cabezas simple model is used to write the rate and propagation equations for the active medium. The solution of the governing equations shows that in high concentration of the erbium ions, depending on the pumping rate, the relaxation oscillations are converted to nT-Periodic or even to chaotic behavior. Although the high concentration erbium ion in the optical amplifiers decreases the conversion efficiency and increases the threshold pump power, amplitude of the transient effects is reduced in the multi feedback-loop...

Desighning and Construction of a Passive Q Switched Nd:YAG Laser and Amplifier with Electrical Power Supply

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soltani, Adel (Author) ; Sadighi-Bonabi, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nd:YAG laser is one of the most applicable laser for researches and development where it's basic wavelength and harmonics are used on different laser project. It's basic output has a wide pulse duration and low peak power ,therefore in order to increase the peak power the pulse duration is reduced by Q-switching.In this project by means of passive Q-switch technique an energy equivalent to 500 mj with 10to 20 ns pulse duration is extracted from the oscillator and the output energy is amplified to about 850mj in a single pass through amplifier. In this project we used saturable absorber for Q-switching because it is more optimum and simpler than other Q-switching techniques like...

    Abstract
In this work, the generation of two-soliton and three-soliton molecules in a circular fiber array laser with an active optical central fiber is studied. Certain fibers of the array are excited by Gaussian and super-Gaussian pulses. The central fiber of the circular fiber laser is a rare-earth doped fiber. A circular fiber array is employed as a saturable absorber in a soliton mode locked fiber laser. Generation of two-soliton and three-soliton molecules are observed in our simulation. Numerical calculation of binding energy shows that the super-Gaussian pulse tends to be more stable, and therefore it would be a proper choice for the generation of soliton molecules in the circular fiber array...
