    Abstract
    The prediction of material microstructure is of great interest to the material designers since the property and performance of materials depend strongly on their microstructures. In this research the Monte Carlo method and grain growth phenomenon have been used to predict the limiting grain size in the presence of second phase particles. The results showed a good agreement with the previous published results predicted by the analytical models. It was found that the lattice orientation parameter, Q, strongly affects the kinetic of the grain growth.     Abstract
    The accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process was carried out on a high purity alloy (AA1100) and a particle containing aluminium alloy (AA3003) for up to eight cycles. The electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) method was utilised to investigate the microstructural and microtextural evolution in ARB processed sheets. The results indicate that the lack of second phase particles in pure aluminium hinders grain refinement and leads to the formation of unrefined bands, which results in the increase of the overall texture intensity and the development of a strong texture.     Clustering is the problem of partitioning a (large) set of data using unsupervised techniques. Today, there exist many clustering techniques. The most important characteristic of a clustering technique is the shape of the cluster it can find. In this paper, we propose a method that is capable to find arbitrary shaped clusters and uses simple geometric constructs, Circlusters. Circlusters are different radius sectored circles.     The fabrication of potassium sodium niobate piezoceramic with oriented microstructure and study of its piezoelectric properties is one of the main objectives of the present study. For this purpose, first the raw materials were synthesized. solid state reaction and topochemical reaction were used for the synthesis of potassium sodium niobate and sodium niobate respectively. The X-ray diffraction results determined that the powder synthesized by the solid state method in the binary system KNbO3-NaNbO3 is closer to the morphotropic phase boundary compared to the powder synthesized in the ternary system Na2CO3-K2CO3-Nb2O5.     Binary blends of recycled high-density polyethylene (R-HDPE) with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (R-PET) and recycled polystyrene (R-PS), as well as the ternary blends, i.e. R-HDPE/R-PET/R-PS, with varying amounts of the constituents were prepared by twin screw extruder. The mechanical, rheological, thermal, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were utilized to characterize the samples. The results revealed that both R-HDPE/R-PET and R-HDPE/R-PS blends show phase inversion but at different compositions.     When latent heat is transferred in a heat exchanger network, the formation of the second phase creates an opportunity for separation.     Ontology matching is a process for selection of a good alignment across entities of two (or more) ontologies. This can be viewed as a two-phase process of (1) applying a similarity measure to find the correspondence of each pair of entities from two ontologies, and (2) extraction of an optimal or near optimal mapping. This paper is focused on the second phase and introduces our evolutionary approach for that. To be able to do so, we need a mechanism to score different possible mappings.     Since the failure of resources fatally affects processor allocation, a fault tolerant service is essential in the interconnection networks. In this paper, a new fault tolerant method is proposed and evaluated in the hybrid processor allocation scheme, which we have introduced in our previous work. Our task consists of two independent phases. First, the allocation process executes to allocate an efficient set of processors to the requested submesh.     Wire-based friction stir processing is introduced as a solid-state surface alloying strategy for surface alloying of AZ31 magnesium alloy with aluminum, as a key alloying element in magnesium alloys. This technique enables the formation of a defect-free, grain refined and alloyed surface with the increased volume fraction of Mg-Al second phase, and thus, enhanced surface hardness.     In this paper, we analyze the role of the number of quantization bits on the third phase of the hierarchical cooperation scheme proposed by Ozgur et al. in 2007. The hierarchical cooperation scheme has a digital architecture and requires quantization of MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) observations in the third phase. The choice of the number of quantization bits Q has direct effect on the pre-constant factor of the network throughput. By increasing the number of quantization bits, the MIMO capacity in the second phase increases at the expense of higher computational complexity of the third phase.     Ni-Co/SiC composite coatings with various contents of SiC particles were electrodeposited in a modified Watt's type of Ni-Co bath containing suspended 20 nm SiC particles. Deposition parameters including current density, bath SiC concentration and magnetic stirring rate were optimized for the highest amount of the SiC codeposition: the current density of 4 A/dm2, 40 g/dm 3 SiC concentration and 480 rpm stirring rate.     In this work, we present a level set method to simulate steady and unsteady mass transfer from a single droplet moving in a second phase fluid under buoyant force. We initially use level set to determine the interface between the two phases, where the shape of drop forms. Next, we extend this method to solve a unique mass transfer equation for the entire solution domain without considering the discontinuity appeared at the interface.     This paper shows how a subset of features can be selected for designing interpretable fuzzy rule-based system. This method consists of two phases: feature subset selection based on Michigan Learning approach and Training fuzzy rule-based system using the selected subset from the first phase. First, a number of independent fuzzy rule-based systems are trained using genetic operations, and then the dominated rules of each trained system with the highest fitness values are selected.     In this study, the inclusion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes as the second phase in the hydroxyapatite matrix, in order to improve the mechanical strength, has been performed via the sol-gel process. The stability of carbon nanotube sol with the changes of pH and dispersant values (sodium dodecyl sulfate) was evaluated by zeta potential analysis. The results indicated that synthesis of hydroxyapatite particles in the presence of the carbon nanotubes had the best result in homogenization of the carbon nanotube dispersion and faster crystallization of hydroxyapatite.
