    Abstract
Two different hydroxyapatite based composites reinforced by oxide ceramic (20 wt%) nano crystals were synthesized by high-energy ball milling and sintered by pressure less technique. Alumina and titania nanoparticles as secondary phases improved densification and mechanical behavior of apatite and postponed its decomposition to the tricalcium phosphate (TCP) phases at elevated temperatures. Increasing the relative density of apatite using nano reinforcements leads to enhance the bending strength by more than 40% and 27% (as compared to the pure HA) and increase the hardness from 2.52 to 5.12 (Al2O3 composite) and 4.21 (TiO2 addition) GPa, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM),...

Comparison of corrosion behavior between fusion cladded and explosive cladded Inconel 625/plain carbon steel bimetal plates

    Abstract
One of the main concerns in cladding Inconel 625 superalloy on desired substrates is deterioration of corrosion resistance due to cladding process. The present study aims to compare the effect of fusion cladding and explosive cladding procedures on corrosion behavior of Inconel 625 cladding on plain carbon steel as substrate. Also, an attempt has been made to investigate the role of load ratio and numbers of fusion layers in corrosion behavior of explosive and fusion cladding Inconel 625 respectively. In all cases, the cyclic polarization as an electrochemical method has been applied to assess the corrosion behavior. According to the obtained results, both cladding methods aggravate the...

Effects of nucleation agent particle size on properties, crystallisation and microstructure of glass-ceramics in TiO2-ZrO2-Li 2O-CaO- Al2O3-SiO2 system

    , Article Advances in Applied Ceramics ; Volume 109, Issue 6 , 2010 , Pages 318-323 ; 17436753 (ISSN) Nemati, A ; Goharian, P ; Shabanian, M ; Afshar, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of P 2O5 particle size distribution on the crystalline phases and microstructure of lithium disilicate glass-ceramics derived from the TiO2-ZrO2-Li2O-CaO-Al2O 3-SiO2 system for dentistry applications. The samples were made via fusion and casting procedure. Crystallisation as well as the morphology and microstructure of the samples were investigated using X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetric and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that the crystallisation of the samples occurred in the range of 500-650°C. The main crystalline phase was lithium disilicate (Li2Si2O5) along with Lithium metasilicate (Li2SiO3),...

    Abstract
In this research, the microstructure, dielectric, and non-Ohmic properties of (Cr, Nb) co-doped SnO2 ceramics, (Cr0.5, Nb0.5)xSn1-xO2 with x% = 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 5.0, and 10.0, as a colossal dielectric material and a prospective alternative to co-doped TiO2 ceramics were studied. The X-ray diffraction results indicated that in all compositions, the cassiterite phase was achieved without any secondary phases. Moreover, field-emission secondary electron microscopy showed that the microstructure of samples has different morphologies including typical grains, enlarged grains and prism-like grains microstructure for various sintered samples. The maximum dielectric constant (2737) accompanied by...
