    , Article International Journal of Renewable Energy Research ; Volume 3, Issue 1 , 2013 , Pages 132-137 ; 13090127 (ISSN) Abdollahi Mansoorkhani, H ; Kia, M ; Sahebi, M. M ; Pishvaie, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper proposes a short-term stochastic SCUC model that simultaneously schedules generating units' energy and spinning reserve in presence of wind energy. It should be noted that system uncertainties, wind farm output uncertainties and power generators and lines outages are also considered in optimization process. The proposed stochastic SCUC model is formulated as a two-stage stochastic mixed-integer programming model. Performance of the proposed formulation is proved through test systems and the results are also presented

Probabilistic assessment and sensitivity analysis of marginal price of different services in power markets

    , Article IEEE Systems Journal ; Volume 7, Issue 4 , May , 2013 , Pages 873-880 ; 19328184 (ISSN) Nouri, A ; Afkousi-Paqaleh, M ; Hosseini, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Different sources of uncertainty in power systems, i.e., the uncertainties associated with bus loading and component availability is reflected in uncertainties in different system variables through system physical and economical relationships. A stochastic power flow algorithm can be used to model the stochastic nature of power systems. The algorithm introduced in this paper calculates the probability density function (pdf) of marginal prices of different market services. These pdfs provide the market participant with some valuable information to reduce the risk of their decisions and actions. The algorithm linearizes the optimal power flow formulation and uses the Gram-Charlier method to...

Payment minimisation auction with security constraints

    , Article IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution ; Volume 11, Issue 6 , 2017 , Pages 1370-1380 ; 17518687 (ISSN) Nouri, A ; Hosseini, S. H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Among the different options available for market clearing mechanisms, offer cost minimisation mechanism is being used in most electric power markets. The payments are then calculated based on locational marginal prices (LMPs). The payments can be significantly higher due to the inconsistency of the clearing and pricing mechanisms. Payment cost minimisation (PCM) mechanism which directly minimises the total payment has been recently proposed to solve this issue. In this study, an auction mechanism is proposed for payment to suppliers minimisation (PSM) based on the LMPs instead of consumers payment minimisation (CPM). Using a proper formulation for the supply side reserve LMPs, the complete...

    Abstract
Uncertainties associated with bus loading and components' availability lead to uncertainties in different system variables based on the system physical and economical relationships. Line flows, bus voltages, different prices, and other variables and indices, such as available transfer capacity (ATC), are stochastic and cannot be expressed as a determined quantity. Traditionally, in order to model the stochastic nature of power systems, a stochastic power flow algorithm is used. In this paper, stochastic-algebraic method is applied to find the probability density function (pdf) of ATC. The algorithm linearizes the optimal power flow formulation and uses Gram-Charlier expansion to find the pdf...

Reserve Management in Power Systems with Considering Dynamic Constraint

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hosseini, Amir (Author) ; Ranjbar, Ali Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the important tasks of operation manager is keeping system in safe and reliable situation. There are many tools that supply safety in the power system. One of them is operation reserve. Operation reserve is any type of capacity being used to support active power balance. In this thesis, an approach for optimal determining reserve capacity with considering dynamic constraint is presented. This thesis describes a method for setting the optimum value of reserve capacity based on the cost of its provision, the benefit derived from its availability and Frequency stability. The method that used is D-SCRM algorithm. However, as the size of power systems increases, the current centralized...

A unit commitment for electricity market participation of wind farms

    , Article 2017 IEEE Power and Energy Society Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference, ISGT 2017, 23 April 2017 through 26 April 2017 ; 2017 ; 9781538628904 (ISBN) Abbasi, E ; Hosseini, S. H ; Dorostkar Ghamsari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper a reliability, emission, and network security constrained unit commitment (UC) with the focus on wind power integration is formulated. It is shown that clearing both energy and spinning reserve markets taking into account network constraints provides a reliable and economic solution for day-ahead operation planning of a power system with a significant amount of thermal and wind power in the generation portfolio. The developed UC is formulated and implemented in MATLAB. The IEEE 24-Bus Reliability Test System (RTS) is used to verify the UC method by simulation. © 2017 IEEE

A modified algorithm for allocating reserve power considering security constraints

    Abstract
This paper addresses a novel formulation and solution for the security constrained reserve management (SCRM) problem in both normal and N − 1 contingency conditions. Indeed, the SCRM problem is a modified version of the security constraint unit commitment problem which is updated with the operational reserve management and frequency stability constraints in both normal and N − 1 contingency conditions. The objective of this problem is to determine the optimal amounts of generation associated with different units and frequency regulation reserve (FRR) and allocate the FRR among the generation units. Therefore, the SCRM problem is a mixed integer nonlinear problem which is solved using the...

Estimating abilities of distributed energy resources in providing flexible ramp products for active distribution networks

    Abstract
Growing demand for flexible ramp products (FRPs) to maintain the power balance in active distribution networks (ADNs) has expanded the use of costly fast-start generators in the upstream real-time market. In order to limit the power system's reliance on these units, it is necessary to establish new sources for providing ADNs with FRPs. In this context, the present paper examines the abilities of distributed energy resources (DERs) and active loads for supplying the ramp capacity demands of ADNs. Accordingly, a local real-time market was established in the ADN, empowering several DERs and active loads to provide the network's FRPs demands. The proposed market was formed in the context of a...

    Abstract
This paper proposes a comprehensive analytic method for applying various optimal remedial actions to improve critical electromechanical modes damping without jeopardizing damping of non-critical modes and violating security constraints of power system. Generators and reactive power sources redisptach, demand side management and the generators voltage reference tuning are remedial actions that are considered here. Dynamic equations of the flux-decay dynamic model of generators, standard dynamic models of excitation system and power system stabilizer and algebraic equations of active and reactive powers balance are formulated in the quadratic eigenvalue problem framework. With simultaneous use...
