    Abstract
Hybrid nanostructures combining semiconductor quantum dots and graphene are attracting increasing attention because of their optoelectronic properties promising for photovoltaic applications. We present a hot-injection synthesis of a colloidal nanostructure which we define as quasi core/shell PbS/graphene quantum dots due to the incomplete passivation of PbS surfaces with an ultrathin layer of graphene. Simulation by density functional theory of a prototypical model of a nonstoichiometric Pb-rich core (400 atoms) coated by graphene (20 atoms for each graphene sheet) indicates the possibility of surface passivation of (111) planes of PbS with graphene resulting in a decrease in trap states...

    , Article Microelectronic Engineering ; Vol. 119 , May , 2014 , pp. 37-43 ; ISSN: 01679317 Mahmoudpour, M ; Zabihollah, A ; Vesaghi, M ; Kolbadinejad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This research presents an application of transparent lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) materials in micro light source tracking device, which is designed to function as a result of irradiation, having neither lead wires nor electric circuits. The focus of the paper is on the analytical and finite element investigation into ultraviolet photo-induced multi-physics responses of PLZT photocantilever and a comparison of the measured bending displacement to check the feasibility of these materials in design of micro light source tracking device. The finite element formulation of the transverse deflection for multi-physics analysis of PLZT ceramics by including the photovoltaic and...

    Abstract
Time-dependent model is presented to simulate random lasers in the presence of an inhomogeneous gain medium. PbSe quantum dots (QDs) with an arbitrary size distribution are treated as an inhomogeneous gain medium. By introducing inhomogeneity of the PbSe QDs in polarization, rate, and Maxwell's equations, our model is constructed for a one-dimensional disordered system. By employing the finite difference time-domain method, the governing equations are numerically solved and lasing spectra and spatial distribution of the electric field are calculated. The effect of increasing the pumping rate on the laser characteristics is investigated. The results show that the number of lasing modes and...

    Abstract
Abstract Porous lead zirconate titanate-lead cobalt niobate 0.8Pb(Zr1/2Ti1/2)O3-0.2Pb(Co1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PZT-PCN) piezoelectric ceramics were fabricated by introducing pore-forming agent polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), and the effect of sintering behavior on their microstructure, dielectric, and piezoelectric properties were investigated. The optimum sintering procedure was designed according to the thermogravimetric analysis of pore former. Finally the electrical properties were measured. The porosity of PZT-PCN ceramics decreased and the grain size increased with an increase in the sintering temperature at a fixed PMMA addition. "An increase in density with sintering temperature from 1050 to...

    , Article 2nd International Conference on Environmental and Computer Science, ICECS 2009, 28 December 2009 through 30 December 2009, Dubai ; 2009 , Pages 165-169 ; 9780769539379 (ISBN) Azizi, A ; Durali, L ; Rad, F. P ; Zareie, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Vibration control is an essential problem in different structure. Smart material can make a structure smart, adaptive and self-controlling so they are effective in active vibration control. Piezoelectric elements can be used as sensors and actuators in flexible structures for sensing and actuating purposes. In this paper we use PZT elements as sensors and actuator to control the vibration of a cantilever beam. Also we study the effect of different types of controller on vibration. © 2009 IEEE

Study of microstructure and dielectric properties of PMN-PZT ceramics via a mixed powder method including sol-gel precursor

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 476, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 791-796 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Moetakef, P ; Nemati, Z. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
An attempt to synthesize pyrochlore free (x)PMN-(1 - x)PZT ceramics (where x is 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, and 1) by a mixed powder method was made. In this work, a sol-gel prepared PZT powder was mixed with the mixture of milled PbO, MgO and Nb2O5, and sintered in a two step sintering process. The produced samples with high PZT content showed low densities due to the low compaction ratio of PZT powder. The dielectric properties of PZT-rich and PMN-rich materials were high (with dielectric constant of about 19,000 and 33,000 for PZT-rich and PMN-rich ceramics, respectively) while the other samples exhibited low dielectric properties. Also, the effect of combining PMN with PZT on Curie...

    Abstract
Colloidal quantum dot solar cells have recently attracted significant attention due to their low-processing cost and surging photovoltaic performance. In this paper, a novel, reproducible, and simple solution-based process based on supercritical fluid toluene is presented for in situ growth and deposition PbS nanocrystals with oleic-acid passivation. A lead precursor containing sulfur was mixed with oleic acid in toluene and processed in a supercritical fluid condition at different temperatures of 140, 270 and 330 °C for 20 min. The quantum dots were deposited on a fluorine-doped tin oxide glass substrate inside the supercritical reactor. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction,...

    Abstract
Recently, hybrid graphene–quantum dot systems have attracted increasing attention for the next-generation optoelectronic devices such as ultrafast photo-detectors and solar energy harvesting. In this paper, a novel, one-step, reproducible, and solution-processed method is introduced to prepare hybrid graphene–PbS colloids by employing supercritical ethanol. In the hybrid nanocomposite, PbS quantum dots (~3 nm) are decorated on the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets (~1 nm thickness and less than 1 micron lengths). By employing X-ray photoelectron and Raman and infrared spectroscopy techniques, it is shown that the rGO nanosheets are bonded to PbS nanocrystals through carboxylic bonds....
