    Abstract
In the present study, the plastic deformation and dynamic strain ageing behavior of Al-6082 (Al-Mg-Si) alloy treated with elevated temperature equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) were investigated using upper bound analyses. Tensile tests were carried out over wide ranges of temperature and strain rate in order to evaluate the dynamic ageing conditions. ECAP processing was then experimentally performed at temperatures from room temperature up to 200 °C under various strain rates ranging between 10-4 s-1 and 10-1 s-1 . The upper bound analysis solutions and the experimental results are comparable. A theoretical dynamic ageing region was found to be in the temperature range of 90 °C to 260...

    , Article Metals and Materials International ; Volume 23, Issue 5 , 2017 , Pages 984-993 ; 15989623 (ISSN) Ghiabakloo, H ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A low-carbon steel sheet containing 0.05 C, 0.203 Mn, and 0.0229 Si (all in wt%) was rapidly annealed in a temperature range of 300 °C to 600 °C after severe plastic deformation by using constrained groove pressing (CGP) technique. Microstructure evolution was investigated by scanning electron and optical microscopes. Mechanical properties were evaluated by hardness measurements and shear punch test. The results showed a thermal stability up to 400 °C where recrystallization did not occur in the specimens even after 7200 s. This thermal stability is in agreement with previously reported results of conventional annealing of the same steel after CGP. However, annealing at 500 °C and 600 °C led...

Grain-Refining ability of ultra-rapid annealing for low-carbon steel: Severe plastic deformation

    , Article Materiali in Tehnologije ; Volume 51, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 173-177 ; 15802949 (ISSN) Mostafaei, M. A ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Institute of Metals Technology  2017
    Abstract
To study the grain-refinement ability of ultra-rapid annealing (URA), heating rates from 0.3 °C/s up to 1200 °C/s with conventional annealing and URA in the intercritical temperature range were performed on severely deformed low-carbon steel. The results show that recrystallization in conventional annealing is completed below the critical temperature of Ac1 without grain refinement. URA up to 730 °C at a heating rate of 200 °C/s causes grain refinement due to full interaction between the recrystallization and phase transformation. URAs up to 730 °C with heating rates of 600 °C/s and 1000 °C/s lead to partial grain refinement and no grain refinement, respectively. During annealing with a...

An Investigation Into the Annealing Behavior of Severely Deformed Copper

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bisadi, Ghasem (Author) ; Kazeminezhad, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mechanical properties of commercial purity copper sheets are improved and grain size of material is refined into Nano scale after using a severe plastic deformation technique called constrained groove pressing (CGP). Since there are high levels of stored energy and non-equilibrium grain boundaries in nanostructure, annealing behavior and thermal stability of material should be investigated. Although there is not a clear distinction between annealing phenomena, it is essential to determine the intervals of annealing phenomena in order to control their sequences on mechanical properties and nanostructure. Also mechanisms of annealing phenomena should be determined to realize annealing behavior...

    Abstract
Al6063 powder was subjected to severe plastic deformation via high-energy mechanical milling to prepare ultrafine-grained (UFG) aluminium alloy. Uniaxial compression test at various temperatures between 300 and 450 °C and strain rates between 0.01 and 1 s-1 was carried out to evaluate hot workability of the material. Microstructural studies were performed by EBSD and TEM. The average activation energy and strain rate sensitivity of the hot deformation process were determined to be 280 kJ mol-1 and 0.05, respectively. The deformation temperature and applied strain rate significantly affected the grain structure of UFG Al alloy. A finer grain structure was obtained at lower temperatures and...

    Abstract
Severe plastic deformation methods such as severe shot peening are used in order to improve mechanical properties of the components by surface microstructure nanocrystallization. Severe shot peening is one of the popular mechanical surface treatments generally aimed at generating nanograined layer and compressive residual stress close to the surface. Moreover, artificial neural network has been used as an efficient approach to predict and optimize the engineering problems. In present study effects of conventional and severe shot peening on cast iron were modelled by means of artificial neural networks and they were compared. The obtained results indicate that severe shot peening has superior...

Post deformation at room and cryogenic temperature cooling media on severely deformed 1050-aluminum

    , Article Metals and Materials International ; Volume 24, Issue 2 , 2018 , Pages 401-414 ; 15989623 (ISSN) Sarkari Khorrami, M ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Korean Institute of Metals and Materials  2018
    Abstract
The annealed 1050-aluminum sheets were initially subjected to the severe plastic deformation through two passes of constrained groove pressing (CGP) process. The obtained specimens were post-deformed by friction stir processing at room and cryogenic temperature cooling media. The microstructure evolutions during mentioned processes in terms of grain structure, misorientation distribution, and grain orientation spread (GOS) were characterized using electron backscattered diffraction. The annealed sample contained a large number of “recrystallized” grains and relatively large fraction (78%) of high-angle grain boundaries (HAGBs). When CGP process was applied on the annealed specimen, the...

Characterization of nanostructured aluminum sheets processed by accumulative roll bonding

    , Article International Journal of Modern Physics B ; Volume 22, Issue 18-19 , 2008 , Pages 2840-2847 ; 02179792 (ISSN) Pirgazi, H ; Akbarzadeh, A ; Sharif University of Technology
World Scientific Publishing Co. Pte Ltd  2008
    Abstract
An ultrafine grained (UFG) aluminum sheet was produced using severe plastic deformation (SPD) by a process known as accumulative roll bonding (ARB). Electron Back Scattered Diffraction (EBSD) method and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) were utilized for characterization of the subgrain and grain structures of the processed sheets. The results indicate that different mechanisms at different levels of strain lead to the gradual evolution of ultrafine or nanocrystalline grains. Grain fragmentation as well as the development of subgrains are the major mechanisms at the early stages of ARB. Strain induced transformation of low angle to high angle grain boundaries and formation of a thin...

    , Article International Journal of Cast Metals Research ; Volume 27, Issue 5 , 1 October , 2014 , Pages 312-320 ; ISSN: 13640461 Dodangeh, A ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Aashuri, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this research the effects of cold deformation and heating to the semi-solid temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of cast dendritic and non-dendritic structures of A356 alloy were investigated. To produce the non-dendritic samples, the semi-solid slurry was obtained by electromagnetic stirring and rheoforged and then the samples were heated to semi-solid temperature. In order to impose the deformation to the dendritic and non-dendritic samples, multidirectional forging process was used. Non-dendritic samples were deformed with applying one to three passes of the multidirectional forging and then were kept at the semi-solid range of temperature again. Microstructural and...

The effect of direct and cross-rolling on mechanical properties and microstructure of severely deformed aluminum

    , Article Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance ; Vol. 23, Issue 1 , 2014 , pp. 115-124 ; ISSN: 10599495 Mamaghani, K. R ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Severely deformed commercial pure aluminum sheets by constrained groove pressing are direct and crossrolled. The grain size evolution and dislocation density during rolling are studied using Williamson-Hall analysis on x-ray diffraction patterns of the deformed samples. These results and optical microscopy observations show that subsequent direct or cross-rolling of constrained groove pressed aluminum can produce elongated fine grains. The minimum crystallite size is achieved after cross-rolling of constrained groove pressed samples. By direct-rolling or cross-rolling of annealed sheet, the maximum intensity in x-ray diffraction patterns remains on (200) like annealed aluminum but...

By comparing FEM results with experimental data, the optimized geometrical parameters controlling the deformation behavior of the tube in tube channel pressing are determined to obtain the best strain homogeneity and minimum dimensional changes in tube

Dependency modeling of steady state grain size on the stacking fault energy through severe plastic deformation

    , Article Materials Letters ; Volume 159 , November , 2015 , Pages 410-412 ; 0167577X (ISSN) Parvin, H ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2015
    Abstract
Recent investigations have shown that the steady state grain size of severely deformed materials is dependent on the stacking fault energy. In this paper, a model is presented to investigate such a dependency which uses thermodynamics based calculations. The present model shows that the relationship between the steady state grain size and the stacking fault energy of material is in power law form, directly. Furthermore, the model shows that the steady state grain size has an exponential relationship with the self-diffusion activation energy and a decrease in the self-diffusion activation energy increases the steady state grain size. The model predictions are in good agreement with the...

Electrical annealing of severely deformed copper: microstructure and hardness

    , Article International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials ; Volume 24, Issue 10 , 2017 ; 16744799 (ISSN) Nobakht, S ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Commercial pure copper sheets were severely deformed after primary annealing to a strain magnitude of 2.32 through constrained groove pressing. After induction of an electrical current, the sheets were heated for 0.5, 1, 2, or 3 s up to maximum temperatures of 150, 200, 250, or 300°C. To compare the annealing process in the current-carrying system with that in the current-free system, four other samples were heated to 300°C at holding times of 60, 90, 120, or 150 s in a salt bath. The microstructural evolution and hardness values of the samples were then investigated. The results generally indicated that induction of an electrical current could accelerate the recrystallization process by...

The effects of intermediate and post-annealing phenomena on the mechanical properties and microstructure of constrained groove pressed copper sheet

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 515, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 162-168 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Rafizadeh, E ; Mani, A ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Commercial purity copper sheets were subjected to a severe plastic deformation technique known as constrained groove pressing (CGP). The effect of pass number, intermediate and post-annealing on the yield strength, hardness and final microstructure of the copper specimens were investigated. The initial pass increases the strength much more than the subsequent passes. Intermediate and post-annealing up to 300 °C cannot change the mechanical properties significantly and even in some cases improve the strength and hardness while reduce the hardness inhomogeneity. Microstructure after post-annealing at elevated temperatures shows abnormal grain growth. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    , Article Materials Science and Engineering A ; Volume 824 , 2021 ; 09215093 (ISSN) Alyani, A ; Kazeminezhad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
Severe plastic deformation (SPD) processes have received less attention at low temperatures (sub-zero and cryogenics). Hence, in this study, SPD of a commercially pure aluminum (AA1050) through Multi-Directional Forging (MDF) at Low-Temperature (LTMDF) and Room-Temperature (RTMDF) is investigated for different strains. Multi-directionally forged (MDFed) samples were annealed at 150, 250, 350, and 450 °C for 1 h, and some samples were stored at room temperature for periods up to 1 year. Results show that the hardness values and flow stress of LTMDFed aluminum are higher than those of RTMDFed ones. The ratio of yield strength to hardness for LTMDF is similar to that for RTMDF. Surprisingly,...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zangiabadi, Amir Ali (Author) ; Kazeminezhad, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Several SPD methods have been invented for processing rods and sheets, and their physical and mechanical properties have been investigated so far. The materials processed by these methods have not been industrialized thoroughly. Moreover, in previous investigations, few works have been carried out on tubular types of materials. Thus, in this study, aluminum tube goes through a tubular channel in order to achieve different values of strains. This method is named Tube Channel Pressing. The mechanical and microstructural investigations on aluminum tubes which have been processed up to 5 passes shows that ultimate strength increases 1.7 times and sub-grains size reaches to 360 nm. Applying final...

    Abstract
Demand to structural and industrial materials with unique properties lead to produce unorthodox combination of metals. One of the most useful combinations is composites of Aluminum-Steel and this composites is mostly used as a sheet. Due to differences in melting point of two metals, preferred method for welding of this two metals is Cold Roll Bonding. For enhance of mechanical properties of this two metals, preferred methods is Severe Plastic Deformation. By the way, in SPD methods, two method was established for sheets. Accumulative Roll Bonding and Constrained Groove Pressing but ARB method produce multi-layer composites so preferred method to produce bilayer sheets is CGP. In this study,...

Modeling the Effect of Stacking Fault Energy on Severe Plastic Deformation of Metals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Parvin, Hooman (Author) ; Kazeminezhad, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, modeling the deformation behavior of materials is an indispensable tool to describe the evolutions of microstructure and mechanical properties of materials during deformation. As previous investigations have shown, the dislocation density is the most appropriate parameter for investigating the deformation behaviour of materials. In present research, considering the effect of stacking fault energy (SFE), the deformation behavior is investigated. In this regard, at first a thermodynamics based modeling of deformation is presented. Previous studies have shown that due to heterogeneous distribution of dislocations during severe plastic deformation, it is needed to use multi-variable...
