Influence of Mold Preheating and Silicon Content on Microstructure and Casting Properties of Ductile Iron in Permanent Mold

    , Article Journal of Iron and Steel Research International ; Volume 18, Issue 3 , 2011 , Pages 34-39 ; 1006706X (ISSN) Jafar, K. A ; Behnam, A. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The effects of the mold preheating and the silicon content of ductile iron on the percentage of carbides, graphite nodule counts and shrinkage volume were investigated. The results showed that the percentage of carbides and the shrinkage volume decreased when the mold preheating increased. The ductile iron with the carbon equivalent of 4.45% and the silicon content of 2.5% without any porosity defects was achieved when the mold preheating was 450 °C. Increasing the silicon content in the range of 2.1%-3.3% led to the increase in graphite nodule count and graphite size and the decrease in percentage of carbides. It is due to the increase in induced expansion pressure during the graphite...

Effect of SAPO-34's composition on its physico-chemical properties and deactivation in MTO process

    , Article Applied Catalysis A: General ; Volume 364, Issue 1-2 , 2009 , Pages 48-56 ; 0926860X (ISSN) Izadbakhsh, A ; Farhadi, F ; Khorasheh, F ; Sahebdelfar, S ; Asadi, M ; Feng, Y. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Several SAPO-34 samples with different Si/Al ratio (0.05-0.5) of synthesis gel were prepared hydrothermally at crystallization temperature of 190-215 °C. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM/EDX, NH3-TPD, FT-IR and nitrogen adsorption techniques. EDX data showed a deviation of elemental composition of products with respect to the Al, Si, and P from that of the gel mixture, but the increasing trend of Si/Al ratio of the products was confirmed. According to XRD and SEM results, crystallinity of samples increased with Si/Al ratio up to the low to medium range of ca. 0.13. However, a reduction in the crystallinity was observed with further increase of the silicon content of the synthesis...

Key parameters in hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of low silicon content SAPO-34 molecular sieve

    Abstract
Low silicon content SAPO-34 was successfully synthesized using the conventional hydrothermal crystallization in the static condition. Effects of different synthesis conditions including crystallization temperature and the silicon source were investigated through X-ray diffraction patterns. It was concluded that the silicon source had a significant effect on silicon incorporation into the alumino-phosphate building blocks in the course of crystallization. Using precipitated silica instead of silica sol resulted in the formation of impurities of alumino-phosphates phases whose crystalline structures collapse at the high temperature of calcination. For the low silicon SAPO-34 synthesis, the...

Hydrolysis kinetics of lead silicate glass in acid solution

    , Article Journal of Nuclear Materials ; Volume 389, Issue 3 , 2009 , Pages 427-431 ; 00223115 (ISSN) Rahimi, R. A ; Sadrnezhaad, Kh ; Raisali, G ; Hamidi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2009
    Abstract
Hydrolysis kinetics of the lead silicate glass (LSG) with 40 mol% PbO in 0.5 N HNO3 aqueous acid solution was investigated. The surface morphology and the gel layer thickness were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP) were used to determine the composition of the gel layer and the aqueous solution, respectively. The silicon content of the dissolution products was determined by using weight-loss data and compositions of the gel layer and the solution. The kinetic parameters were determined using the shrinking-core-model (SCM) for rate controlling step. The activation energy...
