Rotational and Translational Dynamics of Silver and Titanium Dioxide Nanowires Suspended in Dielectric Media in Electric Fields

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Farain, Kasra (Author) ; Moshfegh, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Esfandiar, Ali (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Wide utilization of nanomanipulation as a promising approach in microorganisms, nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) and assembly of nanostructures remarks the importance of nanostructures’ motion in electric fields. Despite of many reports on manipulation and assembly of nanowires (NWs) in non-uniform and alternating electric fields by dielectrophoresis, and also rotation of NWs in rotating electric fields, there is still a lack of knowledge on rotational and translational dynamics of metallic and dielectric NWs in uniform static electric fields. In this dissertation, we study the dynamics of silver (Ag) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) NWs, with diameters and lengths in the range of 40 to 100...

Morphology-Dependent Electrocatalytic Activity of Silver Nanostructures and Differentia Pulse Voltammetry Determination of Atorvastatin at Silver Nanowires Modified Electrode

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naseri, Amene (Author) ; Shahrokhian, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Hormozi Nezhad, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work two shapes of silver nanostructures including silver nanowires and silver nanocubeswere synthesized by polyol method. Silver nanostructures were characterized by SEM, XRD and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Afterwards the morphology-dependent electrocatalyticperformance of these nanocrystals on the differential pulse behavior of naltrexone (NAL) was investigated. To this aim the differential pulse voltammetric behavior of NAL on a glassy carbon electrode modified with electrochemical deposited gold nanoparticles conjugated with different shapes of silver nanostructures and nafion was investigated. It was proved that silver nanowires show more effective electrocatalytic activity toward...

Synthesis and Characterization of ZnO for Electron Transport Layer in Perovskite and CIGS Solar Cells

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rasti, Noushin (Author) ; Taghavinia, Nima (Supervisor) ; Dehghani, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this study is the fabrication and characterization of ZnO nano particles and the application of ZnO in solar cells. Therefore, firstly we fabricate the high stable solution of ZnO nano particles and then characterize ZnO nano particles. In addition, we study sulfurzation and selenization of zinc oxide thin films. We use ZnO nano particles for fabrication of transparent conductive films. Transparent conductive films have many applications such as touch panels, displays and solar cells. The most applicable transparent conductive electrode is indium tin oxide , which is the most expensive layer in solar cells. But silver nanowires has some challenges such as high surface...

    Abstract
In recent years, thin silver nanowires (Ag NWs) with diameters smaller than 150 nm have been synthesized by implementation of NaCl or FeCl3 as reaction promoters and high molecular weight polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the capping agent. However, the yield of Ag NWs still remains low, mostly due to the insufficient aspect ratio (AR) of the synthesized nanostructures and the production of Ag nanoparticles, which is an undesirable by product. This study proposes a modified technique to alleviate the problem by using a mixture of FeCl3/CuCl2 as the reaction promoter and two different types of PVP with molecular weight of 360 k and 40 k as the capping agents. The appropriate mixtures of...

    Abstract
Development of simple yet precise sensing platforms for rapid determination of biological species and drugs is of paramount importance, not only for analysis of pharmaceutical formulations during the production stage, but also in clinical practices and medical diagnosis. In the present research, we report on the electrochemical determination of atorvastatin (ATOR) by using silver nanowires/gold-modified glassy carbon electrode (Ag NWs/Au/GCE). The modified electrode was constructed through a two-step procedure in which narrow silver nanowires synthesized via a polyol method are drop casted on a pre-modified GCE with electrodeposited gold particles. The results of XRD analysis indicated the...

    Abstract
We report the effect of the geometric parameters on transparency and conductivity in a metallic nanowire mesh as a transparent electrode. Today, indium tin oxide and fluorine-doped tin oxide are used as the transparent electrode for displays and solar cells. Still, there is a definite need for their replacement due to drawbacks such as brittleness, scarcity, and adverse environmental effects. Metallic nanowire mesh is likely the best replacement option, but the main issue is how to find the optimal structure and how to get the best performance. Since the interaction of light with nanowire mesh is complicated, there is no straightforward rule with a simple analytical solution. We developed a...
