Single-channel speech dereverberation in acoustical environments

, Article Proceedings Elmar - International Symposium Electronics in Marine ; 2014 Joorabchi, M ; Ghorshi, S ; Sarafnia, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Reverberated speech signals in acoustical environments produces some problems such as reducing speech intelligibility, distinguishing speakers, locating source, quality for hands-free telephony, hearing aid, etc. Adaptive filters can be applied to reduce the reverberation effects or to dereverberate the received speech signals at microphone. In this paper a dereverberation method is proposed by applying an inverse filter to the received speech signals. Different values of the Room Impulse Response are used in the dereverberation procedure and the results are compared. The results show a significant improvement in the quality of the received signal for the desired reverberant environment....

Design of an Intelligent Aerodynamic Control System for Spinning Flight Vehicles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadkarimi, Hamed (Author) ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Spinning vehicles are a large category of aerospace vehicles including shoulder launched missiles, intelligent anti-armor projectiles, guided rockets and some of re-entry vehicles, anti tank missiles and satellites. This thesis presents the problems of guidance and control in a spinning vehicle with a single plane of On-Off control surface. The missile uses this single surface to control both yaw and pitch channels. The actuator used in this missile is a discrete On-Off type which makes the missile behavior nonlinear. Using describing function technique, a linear model of the spinning missile dynamics in the presence of an On-Off actuator is derived and a classic controller is designed...

Multiple-input describing function technique applied to design a single channel ON-OFF controller for a spinning flight vehicle

, Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering ; Volume 226, Issue 6 , 2012 , Pages 631-645 ; 09544100 (ISSN) Nobahari, H ; Mohammadkarimi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this study, the guidance and control problem of a single-channel spinning missile is investigated. The missile utilizes a single ON-OFF actuator to drive a pair of control surfaces (e.g. elevators) and consequently to perform all required lateral maneouvers. An approximated linear response of the so-called non-rotating frame to ON-OFF input, applied to the rotating frame, is derived using the multiple-input describing function technique. It is shown that there is a relationship between the response of the non-rotating frame and that of the equivalent non-rotating body. It is also shown that the two-channel flight controller, designed for the equivalent non-rotating body, can be reduced to...

    Abstract
Noise contamination is inevitable in biomedical recordings. In some cases biomedical recordings are highly contaminated with artifacts which make the effective recovering process hard to achieve. Many different methods have been proposed for artifact removal from biomedical signals but introducing an effective method which can present valuable data for medical analysis, is still an ongoing process. In this paper a new method for interictal EEG denoising is presented. Single-channel ICA denoising method based on EMD decomposition is used to improve the multi-channel ICA denoising results. This method is tested on simulated epileptic recordings which are contaminated with real muscle artifact...

Single Channel Control of a Rotating Flying Vehicle Using an Inertial Navigation System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebrahimi, Mohammad (Author) ; Nobahari, Hadi (Supervisor) ; Fathi, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, single channel control of a rotating flying vehicle by using an INS is designed based on a nonlinear model simulation. Despite the widespread use of single channel guidance and control systems in some homing missiles, they have not been utilized in rotating rockets due to absence of stabilized seeker in this kind of rockets. The idea proposed in this thesis is to make it possible to use single channel control system by means of a stable platform in the flying vehicle which is completely isolated from body rolling motion. The INS is located on the stable platform and an appropriate guidance algorithm is presented in the stable platform coordinate system.
    In this...

Single-Channel Speech Dereverberation in Noisy Acoustical Environments

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Joorabchi, Marjan (Author) ; Ghorshi, Mohammad Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In speech processing, reflections of sound wave in a bounded space are considered as speech reverberation. Although for musical instruments and their related recording devices these reflections are useful, however, some other applications face serious problems receiving them along with speech signal. Reverberation causes speech degradation and intelligibility as well as highly quality reduction. Dereverberation algorithms are essential for Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), telecommunication and hearing aid devices, which are some of the mostly used applications. While dereverberation itself is a challenging problem, dereverberate a speech signal recorded only by one microphone (channel)...

    Abstract
This paper studies a number of well-known noise estimation techniques and provides a comparative performance analysis of them in speech enhancement platform. Two types of evaluation data that simulate consistent and inconsistent noisy conditions are prepared in the presence of six noise types at different SNR levels. The performance of speech enhancement systems and the spectrum distance of the estimated and original noise spectrums are used as evaluation criteria. The evaluations indicate that a simple VAD method outperforms noise estimation methods in most of the consistent noisy conditions

    Abstract
Shear lag phenomenon has long been taken into consideration in various structural codes; however, the AISC provisions have not proposed any specific equation to calculate the shear lag ratio in some cases such as fillet-welded connections of front-to-front double channel sections. Moreover, those equations and formulas proposed by structural codes are based on the studies that were conducted on riveted and bolted connections, and can be applied to single channel sections whilst using them for fillet-welded double channels would be extremely conservative due to the symmetrical shape and the fact that bending moments will not develop in the gusset plate, resulting in less stress concentration....

    Abstract
In some recent works, model-based filtering approaches have been proved as effective methods for extracting ECG signals from single channel noisy recordings. The previously developed methods, use a highly realistic nonlinear ECG model for the construction of Bayesian filters. In this work, a multi-channel extension of the previous approach is developed, by using a three dimensional model of the cardiac dipole vector. The results have considerable improvement compared with the single channel approach. The method is hence believed to be applicable to low SNR multi-channel recordings

    Abstract
This paper proposes a Distant Speech Recognition system based on a novel speaker Localization and Beamforming (SRLB) algorithm. To localize the speaker an algorithm based on Steered Response Power by utilizing harmonic structures of speech signal is proposed. This new scheme has the ability of speaker verification by fundamental frequency variation: therefore it can be utilized in the design of a speech recognition system for verified speakers. Then the performance of the Farsi speech recognition engine is evaluated under notorious conditions of noise and reverberation. Simulation results and tests on real data shows that by utilizing proposed localization scheme, recognition accuracy...

    Abstract
The activity generated in the brain in response to external stimulations which is named the evoked potential (EP) is typically buried in the background EEG. Because of the low signal to noise ratio ofEPs, it is difficult to record single trial evoked potentials. The traditional technique which is based on ensemble averaging destroys the dynamic information of single trials. In this paper, a new method has been proposed based on generalized eigen value decomposition to extract single trial EPs from single channel EEG recordings. The extraction of the N75-P100-N135 complex in simulated and actual visual evoked potentials is mainly taken under consideration. To illustrate the effectiveness of...

    Abstract
Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) is a well-known technique for background noise reduction in automobile and vehicular environments. The noise fields in automobile and other vehicle interior obey the diffuse noise field model closely. On the other hand, the ANC does not provide sufficient noise reduction in the diffuse noise fields. In this paper, a new multistage post-filter is designed for ANC as a solution to diffuse noise conditions. The designed post-filter is a single channel Linear Prediction (LP) based speech enhancement system. The LP is performed by an adaptive lattice filter and attempts to extract speech components by using intermediate ANC signals. The post-filter has no...

    Abstract
The field enhancement in micro resonators causes the Raman amplification enhancement in them. Micro resonators can be connected to form sequence in variety of ways. The various structures such as single channel and double channel side coupled integrated space sequence of resonators (SClSSORs) can be used as Raman amplifier with different performances. In this paper, a silicon micro-ring coupled-resonator optical waveguide (CROW) is considered as a bandpass Raman amplifier. We introduce an iterative matrix method for analysis the CROW Raman amplifier. This method is applied to the single pump and single input for silicon CROW Raman amplifiers, and the effects of physical parameters of the...
