Synthesis and Characterization of Anticorrosive Hybrid Epoxy Coating based on Polyaniline/Nanodiamond Nanostructures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadkhani, Rahman (Author) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor) ; Pirhady, Nahid (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the ways that corrosion control is presented is the use of coatings that have good properties such as high adhesion, impact resistance, ultraviolet radiation, and so on. They also have other unique properties like anti-corrosion property. To achieve coatings with these advanced properties, they use special properties of nanocomposites. Nanocomposites can add or improve one or more properties to coating properties. In the present study, we tried to first synthesize NanoDiamond/Polyaniline hybrid nanoparticles in different percentages and then use this hybrid in epoxy ester coating. To characterize this hybrid, various analyzes such as FE-SEM, TEM, FT-IR, UV-Visible, TGA and XRD were...

Corrosion Protection of Aluminium by Smart Coatings Containing Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) Nanocontainers

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Imanieh, Iman (Author) ; Afshar, Abdollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Smart coatings which prevent corrosion by several mechanisms recently have been carefully planned. One of these mechanisms is the use of ion exchangers like Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) in the coating network. In this study, the LDH containing a kind of green inhibitor (sodium molybdate) was synthesized and utilized in a Poly-Vinyl Alcohol (PVA) base coating applied on the aluminium (5054 series) surface. After evaluating the LDH performance, the inhibitor release from the LDH crystals was examined by changing significant parameters like MII/MIII (the molar ratio of divalent ions into trivalent ions), pH, aging time and temperature. Considering the LDH morphology or the thickness of the...

Smart Coating Incorporated with Inhibitor-Enclosed Nanocontainers for Corrosion Protection of Steel

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Ebrahim Fathabadi, Hadi (Author) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis a smart anticorrosive pH-responsive coat was developed with layer by layer (LbL) technique in the assembly of SiO2/CTAB/PSS/HMTA/PSS/PEI/PSS. SiO2 nanoparticles were prepared from Matland Company (Iran) with average size of 24 nm. At first, the corrosion inhibition of HMTA for API 5L Grade B steel in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution was investigated. Tafel polarization technique showed the optimum concentration of HMTA was 0.08 M with 92% corrosion inhibition efficiency as the morphology of coverage and adsorption on the steel surface was confirmed by SEM and EDS. AFM results showed the roughness of the surface decreased from 241 nm to 56 nm that is attributed to HMTA adsorption on the...

    Abstract
Smart coatings which prevent corrosion by several mechanisms recently have been carefully planned. One of these mechanisms is the use of ion exchangers like LDH in the coating network. Since the morphology is the most important properties for the applications that the surface plays an important role, LDH morphology was evaluated in this study. For this purpose, the LDH contain a kind of green inhibitor was synthesized and after evaluating its performance it was examined morphologically by changing significant parameters like MII/MIII, pH, aging time and temperature. It is found that, high ratio of the MII/MIII cause thinner layer of LDH. The pH also has special effect on the surface...

    Abstract
In this study, the LDH containing a kind of green inhibitor (sodium molybdate) was synthesized and utilized in a poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA) base coating applied on the aluminum (5054 series) surface. After evaluating the LDH performance, the inhibitor release from the LDH crystals was examined by changing significant parameters like MII/MIII (the molar ratio of divalent ions into trivalent ions), pH, aging time and temperature. In order to find the kinetic release of intercalated inhibitor a prediction model was introduced in 3.5% NaCl solution. The model expressed that the pH as the processing parameter has special effect on the kinetic releasing of the inhibitor. It can enhance the amount of...

Experimental Investigation and Theoretical Modelling of Swelling and Solution of Coated Polyacrylamide Particle in Porous Media

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ashrafizadeh, Marjan (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The main purpose of this study is simulation of in-situ release of nano-size coated polymer particles at the water-oil interface during the polymer flooding. Reaching at the flooding interface, the hydrophobic coating starts dissolving into the oil phase. Subsequently, the hydrophilic core polymer starts diffusing back and simultaneously solves into the water phase and increase the in-situ viscosity of the flooding interface. Because of the in-situ release of the polymer and consequently the viscosity reduction of the injected fluid, the driving force for injection of the polymer as well as the amount of polymer used in flooding will reduce. In addition, smart coating can decrease the...

    Abstract
In this study, the anticorrosive effect of dodecylbenzenesulfonicacid-doped polyaniline nanoparticles [n-PANI (DBSA)] as a conductive polymer was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. Initially, the n-PANI (DBSA) were successfully synthesized via inverse microemulsion polymerization leading to the spherical nanoparticles with an average diameter less than 30 nm. Two coating systems including 1 wt% n-PANI(DBSA) blended epoxy ester (n-PANI(DBSA)/EPE) and neat epoxy ester (EPE) were coated on the carbon steal substrate. The anticorrosion performance of the prepared coatings was studied using EIS measurement in 3.5%...
