Abstract
Residential and commercial sectors, share a significant portion of energy consumption in Iran; 37 percent of the total per capita consumption. Therefore, identification of the relation between revenue and energy consumption could be a great assistance to policy makers for clarification of policies employed in energy sector. This paper attempts to explore and analyze the relationship between revenue and energy consumption in residential and commercial sectors for the years 1969 to 2009 in Iran by Smooth Transition Regression Models. Smooth transition regression model is a nonlinear time series model which can be considered as a developed form of Switching Regression Model. The obtained...

Abstract
In this paper, we describe the design, development and preliminary evaluation of a novel animation tool for smartphones and tablets, with the goal of improving creativity and problem-solving ability among novice users, mainly young children. The user first draws the objects with markers and crayons on paper and takes a photo with their mobile or tablet to import their drawings into the app as game sprites. They then design their animation scene and point to a part of the character and selecting its animation type from existing buttons. Hence the selected part is animated in a vertex shader while ensuring a smooth transition with the non-pointed part. The results of a preliminary evaluation...
Adaptive LSTAR model for long-range variable bit rate video traffic prediction
, Article IEEE Transactions on Multimedia ; Volume 19, Issue 5 , 2017 , Pages 999-1014 ; 15209210 (ISSN) ; Shayesteh, M. G ; Haghighat, N ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Static bandwidth allocation for variable bit rate (VBR) video traffic forfeits the available bandwidth. Prediction of the next frame size is thus useful in dynamic bandwidth allocation. It has been shown that VBR video traces are long-range dependent, which makes one-frame-ahead prediction insufficient for dynamic bandwidth allocation. Several studies have been conducted based on the linear autoregressive (AR) model to address VBR traffic prediction. In this paper, we propose the use of a nonlinear model from the AR family called logistic smooth transition autoregressive (LSTAR) to predict VBR video traffic. Furthermore, we introduce adaptive algorithms, including least mean square (LMS),...
Solution of diffusion equation in deformable spheroids

Abstract
The time-dependent diffusion of neutrons in a spheroid as a function of the focal distance has been studied. The solution is based on an orthogonal basis and an extrapolation distanced related boundary condition for the spheroidal geometry. It has been shown that spheres and disks are two limiting cases for the spheroids, for which there is a smooth transition for the systems properties between these two limits. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that a slight deformation from a sphere does not affect the fundamental mode properties, to the first order. The calculations for both multiplying and non-multiplying media have been undertaken, showing good agreement with direct Monte Carlo...
Technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution based predictive handoff for heterogeneous networks

Abstract
This study presents an efficient handoff algorithm for heterogeneous networks comprising macrocells, microcells, picocells, and femtocells. The proposed algorithm is based on call admission control (CAC) for selecting target base station (BS) from a list of neighbouring candidate BSs, as well as using the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) as decision method. The introduced algorithm takes into account multiple criteria including measured received signal strength (RSS) and signal-to-interference-plus noise ratio (SINR), predicted RSS and SINR, and number of free resource blocks of neighbouring BSs. With the use of TOPSIS, neighbouring BSs are ordered...
Robust Power Control of Wind Turbine with Smooth Switching between Operational Regions using a Two-mass Model
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Moradi, Hamed (Supervisor)
Abstract
Wind turbines have been the subject of many researches in recent decades. Optimization and continuous improvement of these systems play a decisive role in the development and exploitation of wind farms. Wind turbines can be studied from several aspects such as structure, dynamics, aerodynamics, electricity and control. In this research, robust power control of the wind turbine has been studied with emphasis on accurate 2 DOF mechanical and aerodynamic modeling. Aerodynamic coefficients of the turbine have been calculated using the numerical methods and the effect of this numerical modeling has been studied in comparison with the analytical methods on the turbine power control. Several new...
Femtocell base station clustering and logistic smooth transition autoregressive-based predicted signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio for performance improvement of two-tier macro/femtocell networks

Abstract
The aim of this study is to improve the performance of two-tier macro/femtocell networks using a power control approach. In wireless networks, power control plays an important role in improving a number of performance parameters such as co-channel interference and outage probability reduction, throughput increasing, and power saving. This study explores the evolution of centralised power control algorithm based on femtocell base station (FBS) clustering and predicted signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of users. To reduce the computational complexity of centralised algorithm, dense deployed femtocells are considered in different clusters. In this case, femtocells inside one...

Abstract
The growing complexity of today's embedded systems demands new methodologies and tools to manage the problems of analysis, design, implementation, and validation of complex-embedded systems. Focusing on this issue, this paper describes a design and implementation toolset using our ODYSSEY methodology, which advocates object-oriented (OO) modeling of embedded systems and its ASIP-based implementation. The proposed approach promotes a smooth transition from high-level object-oriented specification to the final embedded system, which is composed of hardware and software components. The transition from higher to lower abstraction levels is facilitated by the use of our GUI, which supports the...
