    Abstract
This work presents the optimization of a solar collector surface in solar desiccant wheel cycle which for cooling process with typical configuration naming desiccant wheel, heat exchanger and water spray evaporative cooler. In this cooling cycle the thermal solar energy has used to heat the regeneration air of desiccant wheel cycle. The optimum solar collector surface has determined by taking into account of design parameters such as velocity of air, wheel speed, thickness of the desiccant and hydraulic diameter of the desiccant wheel and also operating conditions such as outside temperature, outside relative humidity, regeneration air temperature and total solar irradiance. For this...

Simulation and Implementation of Active Energy Management Algorithm on Residential Photovoltaic System with Storage

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghafouri Varzaneh, Saeed (Author) ; Abbaspour, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In majority of the (standalone or grid-connected) PV Systems, predefined rule-based algorithms are utilized in order to manage and control the flow of power. The function of these algorithms is to send the generated energy from solar panels either to load for consumption, or to battery for storage, or to the grid for sale. Their performance is based on predefined instructions and regardless of load change and consumption patterns. Therefore the total efficiency of these systems depend greately upon individual user’s load type and consumption pattern. In current research, an optimum and dynamic energy management algorithm is proposed using dynamic programming (DP) method, in order to increase...

Optimization of geometrical dimensions of single-slope basin-type solar stills

    , Article Desalination ; Volume 424 , 2017 , Pages 159-168 ; 00119164 (ISSN) Feilizadeh, M ; Soltanieh, M ; Karimi Estahbanati, M. R ; Jafarpur, K ; Ashrafmansouri, S. S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In the present work, effects of height, length, and width of a single-slope basin-type solar still on its distillate production was investigated. For this purpose, a radiation model was developed which accounts for the influences of all walls on quantities of received solar radiation by the base and saline water of the still. Moreover, in this radiation model, the side walls of the still were considered as the trapezoid and the diffuse as well as beam components of solar irradiance were separately taken into account for the first time. Abilities of the present model were compared with earlier ones. Furthermore, the predictions of the current model were compared with the present experimental...

Efficient dye-sensitized solar cells based on TiO2 nanoparticles and skein-like nanotubes: effect of arrangement modes of the layers and TiCl4 treatment

    , Article Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers ; Volume 61 , 2016 , Pages 138-146 ; 18761070 (ISSN) Mojaddami, M ; Andaji Garmaroudi, Z ; Mohammadi, M. R ; Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Herein, we report a double-layer photoanode electrode composed of TiO2 nanoparticles active layer and a mixture of nanoparticles and newly proposed skein-like nanotubes (NTs) top layer. Such structure performs well in solar light harvesting due to first, the top layer exhibits superior light scattering and second, the active layer with high dye-loading can make better use of the back-scattered light. The results reveal that 30-40 nm nanoparticles have anatase structure, whereas 5-7 μm skein-like NTs show a mixture of anatase and rutile phases. Photovoltaic measurements demonstrate that by tuning mass ratio between nanoparticles and skein-like NTs, the cells based on single-layer photoanode...
