    , Article Linear Algebra and Its Applications ; Volume 553 , 2018 , Pages 104-116 ; 00243795 (ISSN) Akbari, S ; Haemers, W. H ; Maimani, H. R ; Parsaei Majd, L ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A signed graph Γ is said to be determined by its spectrum if every signed graph with the same spectrum as Γ is switching isomorphic with Γ. Here it is proved that the path Pn, interpreted as a signed graph, is determined by its spectrum if and only if n≡0,1, or 2 (mod 4), unless n∈{8,13,14,17,29}, or n=3. © 2018 Elsevier Inc

    Spectral characterizations of signed cycles

    , Article Linear Algebra and Its Applications ; Volume 553 , 2018 , Pages 307-327 ; 00243795 (ISSN) Akbari, S ; Belardo, F ; Dodongeh, E ; Nematollahi, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A signed graph is a pair like (G,σ), where G is the underlying graph and σ:E(G)→{−1,+1} is a sign function on the edges of G. In this paper we study the spectral determination problem for signed n-cycles (Cn,σ) with respect to the adjacency spectrum and the Laplacian spectrum. In particular, for the Laplacian spectrum, we prove that balanced odd cycles and unbalanced cycles, denoted, respectively, by C2n+1 + and Cn −, are uniquely determined by their Laplacian spectra (i.e., they are DLS). On the other hand, we determine all Laplacian cospectral mates of the balanced even cycles C2n +, so that we show that C2n + is not DLS. The same problem is then considered for the adjacency spectrum,...

A new method for visual secret sharing

    , Article 2008 International Symposium on Telecommunications, IST 2008, Tehran, 27 August 2008 through 28 August 2008 ; October , 2008 , Pages 619-623 ; 9781424427512 (ISBN) Firouzi, H ; Ehdaie, M ; Aref, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
In this paper a new probabilistic view to the Visual Secret Sharing (VSS) is presented and as a result, a new VSS scheme is proposed. The proposed scheme is a threshold scheme with perfect black pixel reconstruction. We present the scheme by introducing two sets C0 and C1. We consider an unknown probability distribution on the elements of C0 and C 1. Perfectness provides some linear constraints on the probabilities of C0 and C1 elements. By solving the provided system of linear equations, the probability distributions are specified and we achieve a perfect VSS scheme. ©2008 IEEE

Simulation and Optimization of Neutron Activation Analysis Using the K0- IAEA Software and Comparison with the Experimental Results

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sattari Heris, Aghil (Author) ; Vossoughi, Naser (Supervisor) ; Hosseini, Abolfazl (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Neutron activation is a nuclear method for determination of elements in each sample. In this method, the samples are exposed to neutron irradiation by neutrons which are usually produced by research reactor, and then the core becomes unstable due to capturing the neutron and emits gamma rays. The emitted gamma rays can be detected by a detector like a HPGe semiconductor which has a high resolution. All nucleuses have a probability of neutron absorption, expressed by the absorption cross section area. The radioactive nuclei value depends on the nuclear half-life and the number of unstable nuclei. The only Windows environment commercial software for neutron activation analysis was K0 for...

    Abstract
In this paper a new measurement technique suitable for Time Modulated Array antennas is proposed, which utilizes a low-cost, small form factor, versatile Software Defined Radio (SDR). Performance of the SDR is compared to a spectrum analyzer and the difference is extracted for further calibration. Radiation pattern of a TMA with a defined switching sequence is measured by the SDR, and compared to the simulated array factor. The measured and simulation results are in good agreement, which confirms the accuracy and reliability of the proposed measurement technique. © Institution of Engineering and Technology. All Rights Reserved

    Abstract
The performance of friction dampers to mitigate the wave-induced vibrations in jacket-type offshore platforms has been investigated in this study. Due to the random nature of ocean waves, a full stochastic analysis method has been used to evaluate the response of the structures equipped with these devices. A stochastic linearization technique has also been used to take the nonlinear behavior of these hysteretic dampers into account. At last, the developed mathematical formulation has been applied to evaluate the response of realistic models, and to find out the optimal values for the adjustable parameters of the friction dampers to dissipate the wave induced vibrations of the platforms. ©...

A new phase shifter-less delay line method for phase noise measurement of microwave oscillators

    , Article 38th European Microwave Conference, EuMC 2008, Amsterdam, 27 October 2008 through 31 October 2008 ; January , 2008 , Pages 325-328 ; 9782874870064 (ISBN) Gheidi, H ; Banai, A ; European Microwave Association, EuMA; MTT-S; GAAS ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
In this paper a new method for measuring phase noise of microwave oscillators based on delay line frequency discriminator is proposed. Elimination of phase shifter is the major advantage of this technique over the traditional delay line technique. By using this new technique, manual or electronic tuning of phase shifter to reach phase quadrature at the phase detector input ports is not needed anymore. A 90-degree hybrid is used in this technique and another path including a phase detector and LNA is added. Finally by using a dual channel FFT analyzer and performing some processing over the sampled data of the two channels, the phase noise of the oscillator will be extracted. A setup based on...

    Abstract
In recent years, cooperative diversity techniques have gained increased attention as a new method to combat degrading channel effects. Cooperation among two or more single antenna users generates a virtual diverse multiple-antenna transmission system in the wireless network. In this paper, we propose a scheme to improve the spectral efficiency of the Amplify and Forward system and investigate the application of adaptive modulation concept to the performance of cooperative techniques. We consider the adaptation of rate and power allocation with MQAM modulation and study the performance of Amplify & Forward scenarios in Rayleigh fading channels. We compare this system with its comparable...

    , Article 2008 5th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, CCNC 2008, Las Vegas, NV, 10 January 2008 through 12 January 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 430-434 ; 9781424414574 (ISBN) Shayesteh, M. G ; Nasiri Kenari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
In this paper, we consider the internally coded time-hopping spread-time multiple access scheme introduced in [1]. We evaluate the performance of the correlator receiver followed by the Viterbi algorithm in fading channel. We analyze the effect of multiple access interference (MAI) and narrowband interference (NBI). We also provide simulation results and further evaluate the performance of the system for the ultra wide band (UWB) application with the UWB channel model specified by the IEEE 802.15.4a group. For comparison, we consider the conventional ST-CDMA system. The results indicate that our method has much better performance while it has the same bandwidth and spectral efficiency as the...

    Abstract
Using multiple antenna transmitters and/or receivers is becoming a common method for improving spectral efficiency of wireless channels. The physical layer of the next generation of WLAN systems (802.11n) is based on a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system which seems to be an efficient solution for defects which could occur in wireless channels. In this paper, we investigate an adaptive bit allocation method to feed the quantized channel state data back to the transmitting antennas, depending on the channel condition in a Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) scheme. We have proposed an adaptive bit allocation scheme with a significant performance improvement over the fixed bit...

Impact of channel estimation errors and power allocation on analog network coding and routing in two-way relaying

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology ; Volume 61, Issue 7 , May , 2012 , Pages 3223-3239 ; 00189545 (ISSN) Tabataba, F. S ; Sadeghi, P ; Hucher, C ; Pakravan, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    IEEE  2012
    Abstract
In this paper, we study two important transmission strategies in full-duplex two-way relaying in the presence of channel estimation errors. In analog network coding (ANC), the relay transmits the combined signals that were received from both sources, with the aim of achieving better spectral efficiency. However, due to imperfect channel-state information (CSI), sources cannot perfectly cancel their own data in the relayed signal. We derive an achievable information rate for ANC in imperfect-CSI conditions and show how the ANC performance can significantly be degraded as a result. Moreover, we derive cut-set bounds with channel estimation errors for traditional routing (TR), in which time...

    , Article Current Nanoscience ; Volume 6, Issue 1 , 2010 , Pages 116-123 ; 15734137 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Stochastic parameters of self-agglomerated metallic nanoparticles on a dielectric film surface were studied using atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis. In this regard, the rough surfaces including the nanoparticles were analyzed and characterized using structure function, roughness exponent and power spectrum density of the AFM profiles and their gradients, for different metal concentrations and heat treatment temperatures. The diffusion parameters, such as activation energy, of the nanoparticles initially accumulated on the surface into a porous and aqueous silica thin film were obtained using the AFM spectral analysis of the profiles and their gradients. It was found that the tip...

    Abstract
We consider a combined time-hopping (TH) and spread-time (ST) multiple-access technique that uses an internal code. In this method, the duration of each bit is divided into Ns frames. The outputs of the encoder and a pseudorandom (PN) sequence specify the number of the frame in which the data bit is transmitted in ST code-division multiple-access (ST-CDMA) form using the second PN sequence. We consider the correlator receiver, followed by the channel decoder. We obtain the performance of the combined method in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and fading channels in the presence of multiple-access interference (MAI) and narrowband interference (NBI). We also consider the conventional...

    Abstract
Considering the stress cycles in joints and members due to wave induced forces on offshore platforms, fatigue analysis is therefore one of the most important analyses in offshore platforms design. Most of steel jacket type platforms located in areas with relatively high ratios of operational sea-states to maximum design environmental events; fall in acceptable safety margin in inplace and seismic analyses. But in fatigue analyses they will face critical condition. Therefore it seems that utilizing control mechanisms with the aim of increasing fatigue life in such platforms will be more preferable to merely deck displacement control. Investigation of tuned mass dampers adjustable parameters...
