    Abstract
High mixing efficiency that is of great importance in various industrial processes is a significant feature of spinning disk reactors. This work was focused on the characterization of mixing in a new reactor called Double Spinning Disk Reactor (DSDR) by adopting a competitive parallel reaction system known as iodide–iodate test reaction. The proposed DSDR consists of two coaxial rotating disks that the feeds are introduced into the gap between them. The mixing improves with an increase in the rotational speed of the disk, the radial distance of the feed introduced through the lower disk, and its number of feed points, while an increase in each of the feed flow rate and the distance between...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azadfar, Mohsen (Author) ; Rashtchian, Davood (Supervisor) ; Adibi, Mina (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reduction in the oil reserves level and the increasing of fossil fuel prices and GHG has led to growing value of attention to biodiesel. Reserves of fossil fuels are running out and should have proper alternative for them. Environmental benign and renewable properties of biodiesel make it consider suitable candidate to replace fossil fuels.
In this study, continuous production of biodiesel and optimization of important and influential parameters have been investigated. The method is concluded of trans esterification of soya oil with methanol as feed in presence of homogeneous catalyst of NaOH. The reactor was simple with high efficiency and low operational and investment cost. The...

Experimental Investigation and Modeling of Nanoparticles Synthesis by Reactive Precipitation and Using a Spinning Disk Reactor

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Bagheri Farahani, Hamed (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research work, to enhance the performance of the conventional spinning disk reactors, a novel type of spinning disk reactor has been proposed and tested successfully through the synthesis of barium sulfate nanoparticles by means of the reactive precipitation. This reactor consists of two coaxial rotating disks placed horizontally in a cylindrical chamber. The experimental results clearly indicate the capability of the proposed reactor in the synthesis of nanoparticles with the smaller mean particle size and the narrower particle size distribution compared to those obtained in various process intensification devices such that barium sulfate nanoparticles with a mean particle size of...

    Abstract
In this study, low-cost and simple method of precipitation or reactive crystallization was used to synthesize nanoparticles of silver iodide. For this purpose, the reaction of silver nitrate and potassium iodide along with several surfactants in a rotating disk reactor at ambient temperature and pressure was applied. In addition, the effects of hydrodynamic conditions such as diameter and rotating speed of the disk, feed flow rate, and feed injection location, with some of the effective kinetic parameters in the synthesis such as the concentration of the reactants, type and concentration of the surfactants and free ion ratio and aging time of solutions using dynamic light scattering analysis...

Modeling and Simulation of Micromixing Phenomenon in a New Double-Spinning-Disc Reactor

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Balaghi Inaloo, Majid (Author) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Mixing efficiency is an important performance indicator in many chemical reactors. In the present study, using a computational fluid dynamics model, the quality of micromixing in a double-disk-spinning reactor with the ability to rotate both disks using a fast iodide-iodate competitive reaction has been investigated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of operational parameters such as the speed and direction of rotation of disks, radius and number of entry points of one feed, distance between disks, volumetric flow of feed, feed inlet nozzle diameter and acid concentration (H+) on quality of micromixing. The simulation results show that by increasing the rotation speed...

    Abstract
The aim of this research was to synthesize barium sulfate nanoparticles using a spinning disk reactor. Barium sulfate was produced by continuously pumping two aqueous solutions of BaCl2 and Na2SO 4, respectively, into the chamber of spinning disk reactor, where a liquid-liquid reaction took place to form BaSO4. The influences of various operating and design parameters such as the initial supersaturation, disk rotation speed, free ion ratio, and the disk diameter on the size of barium sulfate nanoparticles were carefully investigated. By varying the supersaturation and disk rotation speed, a broad range of particle size ranging from micrometer sizes down to nanoparticles smaller than 100 nm...
