    Abstract
    Corticosteroids have been the mainstay of uveitis therapy. When intraocular inflammation is unresponsive to steroids, or steroid related side effects become a concern, steroid-sparing medications may be administered which can be classified into immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory agents. Uveitis treatment can be delivered systemically, topically, periocularly or intraocularly. All of the above mentioned medications can entail significant systemic side effects, particularly if administered for prolonged durations, which may become treatment-limiting.     Background: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is considered one of the most severe glomerular diseases and around 80% of cases are resistant to steroid treatment. Since a large proportion of steroid-resistant (SR) FSGS patients progress to end-stage renal disease, other therapeutic strategies may benefit this population. However, identification of non-invasive biomarkers to predict this high-risk population is needed.     In this project, silica and polystyrene based interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) were used as a sorbent for microextraction in packed sorbent for having both of the polymer’s properties at the same time. Interpenetrating polymer networks were synthesized with the simultaneous method and three different kind of interpenetrating polymer networks were prepared including full-interpenetrating polymer networks, covalent semi-interpenetrating polymer networks and non-covalent semi-interpenetrating polymer networks.     Abstract
    Phytochemical investigation of the aerial parts of Salvia eremophila led to the isolation of a lupane triterpenoid, 3β, 20-dihydroxylupane-28-oic acid (1), together with eight other compounds, comprising three diterpene, two triterpene, two flavonoids and a steroidal glucoside. Their structures were elucidated by interpretation of their one-dimensional and two-dimensional NMR spectra and completed by the analysis of the HRESIMS data. Compounds 1, 2-4 and 8 were evaluated for their cytotoxicities against five human tumour cell lines. Compounds 1 and 3 hold a good potential for use in future studies due to their anti-cancer properties

    In this study, cellulose acetate (CA) fibers were prepared using different solvent systems in electrospinning. The recorded scanning electron microscopy micrographs indicated that the morphology of the prepared fibers is closely associated with the type of electrospinning solvents. The prepared CA fibers were used as an extractive phase for on–line micro–solid phase extraction (μ-SPE) of nonsteroidal–inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in biological samples pursued by HPLC–UV determination.     Polystyrene is one of the best candidates as the extracting medium due to its high stability in different media and acceptable extraction capability. However, the hydrophobic nature and low wettability of polystyrene limits its application to non–polar analytes.
