    Abstract
    To figure out the relationship between nutrient deprivation and cell growth, simulation can be effective. In the present work, the growth of Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells was simulated based on stoichiometric and kinetics calculations. The simulation results were compared to the experimental data from a packed-bed bioreactor and a good agreement was observed. The kinetic parameters (K Glc, K Amn, K Lact and μ Max) were optimized by a genetic algorithm method using stoichiometric parameters (Y X/Glc, Y X/Amm, and Y Lac/Glc).     Abstract
    Porous surface on titanium induces apatite formation in simulated body fluid (SBF). This work shows alkaline, acid and polishing treatment, which lead to create apatite coating. Specimens were soaked in 5 M solution of NaOH, 85% HCl-6% HF-9% H3PO4 and 2% HF-4% HNO3-94% H2O. Also many samples were polished with sandpaper. Specimens treated under the above conditions were soaked in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 5 days. Apatite formed within 5 days. The evaluation of Ca/P ratio of samples were made by EDAX analysis to get information of the Ca/P ratio.     Abstract
    Rhenium distribution between Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) dissolved in kerosene and sulfuric aqueous media is investigated under different temperatures, acidities, and TBP concentrations. Results show an exothermic extraction reaction with a distribution factor that decreases with the increase of the temperature and increases with the increase of the acidity and the TBP concentration. The stoichiometry of the reaction indicates neutralization of 1 mole of H+ with 1 mole of ReO4- and solvating of a neutral molecule with four molecules of TBP.     This study reveals that the type of carrier material affects the stoichiometry of the anaerobic conversion and the metabolism in cultures enriched with polyphosphate-accumulating organisms (PAOs) and helps increase the biological phosphorus removal performance. PAO-enriched biofilms were cultivated in two identical lab-scale sequencing batch reactors containing different carrier types: a typical moving bed bioreactor carrier (MBBR) and a novel carbon-based moving carrier type (CBMC) coated by activated carbon particles.     Uranium dioxide (UO2) has been widely used as nuclear fuel in water cooled reactors since 1960s. UO¬2 is a refractory oxide with a melting point in excess of 28000C and therefore, requires high sintering temperature around 17000C in a hydrogen atmosphere for several hours. In the conventional method, the sintering is incorporated with indirect heating of green pellets in a refractory-type electrical resistance furnace.     In the present work, three alumina-15 vol% zirconia composites with Y2O3, MgO as dopants and without oxide as dopant have been investigated. High energy ball milling (HEBM) provides the positive thermodynamic driving force for monoclinic to tetragonal transformation and it reduces starting temperature for the reverse martensitic transformation, meanwhile mobility of zirconium cations and oxygen anions are enhanced in zirconia by HEBM.     The binary powder blending technique (BPBT) was employed in production of anisotropic (Nd, MM)2(Fe, Co, Ni)14B-type sintered magnets (MM: denotes a Misch-metal). The composition of the master alloy was close to the stoichiometric Nd2Fe14B compound, while the sintering aid (SA) had a composition of MM38.1Co46.4Ni15.4.     In this investigation, the effect of coloring voltage and thickness on optical and also electrochromical properties of W O3 thin films has been studied. The W O3 thin films were grown on glass and indium tin oxide coated conducting glass substrates by e-beam evaporation at different thicknesses of 200, 400, and 700 nm. Optical properties of the deposited samples were characterized in the ultraviolet-visible range (300-1100 nm). The optical bandgap energy of the W O3 was obtained in a range of 3.3-3.5 eV showing its increase by decreasing the film thickness.     Synergistic effects of Cyanex 272 mixed with D2EHPA and Cyanex 302 mixed with D2EHPA were investigated for the separation of cobalt and nickel from a dilute sulfate media with the aim of reducing the reagent cost. Selective extraction of cobalt over nickel improved with respect to D2EHPA, but worsened with respect to Cyanex 272. By the application of the slope analysis method, the stoichiometric coefficient of the extractant was found to be four for cobalt and five for nickel, in a mixture of D2EHPA with Cyanex 302.     The interaction of [60]fullerene with a newly synthesized series of 17-to 21-membered macrocyclic ligands containing an O2N3-donor set has been investigated.     Granular composite samples of GdBa2Cu3O 7-δ (Gd123), PrBa2Cu3O 7-δ (Pr123), and Pr0.5Ba0.5Ba 2Cu3O7-δ (PrBa123) have been prepared by the solid state reaction technique. The characterization of samples has been done by SEM and XRD measurements. We have investigated the effect of Pr123 and PrBa123 insulating grains on the superconductor-insulator transition and the normal state resistivity of the (1 - n)Gd123-nPr123 and (1 - m)Gd123-mPrBa123 systems.     We have studied the effect of negative chemical pressure in the RuGd 1.5(Ce 0.5-xPr x)Sr 2Cu 2O 10-δ with Pr content of 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.2. This is also investigated using the bond length results obtained from the Rietveld refinement analysis. The c parameter and cell volume increase with x for 0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15. The width of the resistivity transition also increases with Pr concentration, indicating higher inhomogeneity and oxygen deficiency. The difference in the ionic valences of Pr 3+,4+ and Ce 4+ causing different hole doping, the difference in the ionic radii, and oxygen stoichiometry affect the superconducting transition.     The interaction of [60]fullerene with a series of 15-19-membered macrocycles containing an O 2N 2-donor set has been investigated by UV-visible spectroscopy. The formation constants arising from the complexation of [60]fullerene with these azacrown macrocycles, having various ring size, were determined in CHCl 3 media applying Benesi-Hildebrand equation.     Abstract
    WO3 thin films were fabricated by sol-gel method using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as dispersing agent. Physical and photoelectrochemical properties of the synthesized nanocrystalline films were studied by varying weight ratio of PEG to tungsten precursor (x). Based on AFM observations and statistical modeling of the WO3 surface, the thickness of the films increased by increasing the amount of x with a nearly linear fashion while the surface roughness reached to a saturated value. However, the film synthesized with x = 4 showed a chaotic surface behavior. Optical analysis revealed that by increasing the x, transmittance of the films decreased while their band gap energies remained unchanged....
