    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 448, Issue 1-2 , 2008 , Pages 284-286 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Madaah Hosseini, H. R ; Naghibolashraphy, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
The effects of Misch-Metal (MM) oxide addition on magnetic properties, crystal structure and microstructure of the M-type strontium ferrite have been studied. By MM substitution of Sr a significant increase in intrinsic coercivity and a slight decrease in remanence was observed. The highest value of energy product was obtained at 4 wt.% MM addition. By calculating the lattice constants of 4 and 8 wt.% MM added specimens, it was found that the length of c-axis decreases by 4 wt.% MM addition and then undergoes a considerable increase at 8 wt.%, while the a-axis increases monotonously. The SEM observations revealed that the migration of MM oxides to the grain boundaries could be the major...

    Abstract
AS5U3G and AS7U3G are two prevalent types of alloy which are used in producing cylinder head. In this research AS5U3G alloy is studied. Gravity casting is one of the method of producing this part. Produced porosities in cylinder head casting process, cause leakage in this part. In order to solve this problem, some actions have been taken that we can divide them into quality operations improvement of melt and making changes in casts. The sampling is done in four levels to evaluate the gas porosity and shrinkage. In these levels, pressure and degassing duration and strontium's modifying in a fixed temperature have been evaluated. Based on reports by comparing density of relative samples, it...

Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene-based Material and Investigation of its Adsorption Properties for Radioactive Waste

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Tayyebi, Ahmad (Author) ; Outokesh, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nuclear power is a prominent alternative of fossil fuels that can effectively solve global warming, acid rains and other consequences of air pollutions, caused by combustion. Despite such obvious advantage, this highly compact form of energy suffers from a big problem corresponding to its nuclear waste. Graphene oxide (GO), a lamellar material with wide range of surface functional groups such as epoxy (C-O-C), hydroxyl, and carboxyl offers large surface area as well as high sorption capacity for the metallic cations. This thesis study presents a supercritical, and co-precipitation synthesis of magnetite- graphene oxide (M-GO) in which Fe3O4 nanoparticles are simultaneously formed, surface...

    Abstract
2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone has been offered as a mobile carrier in organic phase for the transport and selective separation of yttrium from aqueous media using a liquid membrane system. Perceivably, the use of n-propylamine (PA) in the source phase enhances the transport of yttrium ions. The extraction and stripping conditions have entirely been evaluated and explained. The suggested method has been utilized for the separation of yttrium(III) from its binary mixtures with strontium(II) and some other cations such as Ni2+, Co2+, Ag+, Fe2+, Al3+, Cu2+, Hg2+and Cs+ in aqueous solutions of pH 5.4 in the presence of PA, while 1 M nitric acid was acting as a stripping agent in the receiving...

    Abstract
Barium strontium titanate (BST) was prepared via the simple sol-gel method by using tetrabutyl ti-tanate, ethanol, citric acid and ethylene glycol as starting materials. Thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis were used to examine the behaviour of the xerogel. The particle size of BST was approximately 21 nm, as calculated by the X-ray diffraction and confirmed by transition electron microscopy for the calcination temperature of 750 °C. It was found that the particles of BST powders calcined at 750 °C were smaller and more homogeneous and uniform than those obtained at 800 °C

    Abstract
Barium strontium titanate (BST, Ba1-xSrxTiO3) thin films have been extensively used in many dielectric devices such as dynamic random access memories (DRAMs). To optimize its characteristics, a microstructural control is essential. In this paper, Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 thin film has been deposited on the SiO2/Si substrate by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique at three different oxygen working pressures of 100, 220 and 350 mTorr. Then the deposited thin films at 100 mTorr oxygen pressure were annealed for 50 min in oxygen ambient at three different temperatures: 650, 720 and 800°C. The effect of oxygen working pressure during laser ablation and thermal treatment on the films was investigated...

    Abstract
We present an analytical thermal model to explain the crosstalk in YBCO edge-transition bolometer arrays. The verification of the model was tested on sample array devices made of 200 and 400 nm YBCO films on LaAlO3 and SrTiO3 substrates. The model presented was able to explain the effects of the various physical parameters of the devices, such as the film thickness, operating temperature, and the device separation, which cause different response behaviours based on the variation of the related thermal crosstalk characteristics. In addition, the model is valid above the crosstalk-free modulation frequencies, where the effects of the thermal crosstalk on the response of the devices are...

    Abstract
Precipitation of strontium sulfate (or SrSO4) has already been distinguished as one of the most costly and critical problems which may occur in process industries and oilfield operations. Costs due to scaling and remedial actions that need to be taken afterward are generally high owing to low solubility of SrSO4 in aqueous solutions. Therefore, a thorough understanding of the SrSO4 thermodynamic behavior under various operating conditions is vital to predict or even avoid the overall damage caused by scaling. The primary aim of this work is to develop a model based on Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LSSVM) and Coupled Simulated Annealing (CSA) referred to as CSA-LSSVM to predict...

    Abstract
Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are rapidly becoming recognized as a new alternative to traditional energy conversion systems because of their high energy efficiency. From an ecological perspective, this environmentally friendly technology, which produces clean energy, is likely to be implemented more frequently in the future. However, the current SOFC technology still cannot meet the demands of commercial applications due to temperature constraints and high cost. To develop a marketable SOFC, suppliers have tended to reduce the operating temperatures by a few hundred degrees. The overall trend for SOFC materials is to reduce their service temperature of electrolyte. Meanwhile, it is...

    Abstract
In this paper, a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) p-n-p-n tunneling field-effect transistor (TFET) with a silicon doped hafnium oxide (Si:HfO2) ferroelectric gate stack is proposed and investigated via 2D device simulation with a calibrated nonlocal band-to-band tunneling model. Utilization of Si:HfO2 instead of conventional perovskite ferroelectrics such as lead zirconium titanate (PbZrTiO3) and strontium bismuth tantalate (SrBi2Ta2O9) provides compatibility to the CMOS process as well as improved device scalability. By using Si:HfO2 ferroelectric gate stack, the applied gate voltage is effectively amplified that causes increased electric field at the tunneling junction and reduced tunneling...
