Incremental Dynamic Analysis in Regular Concrete Structures with Seismic Base Isolators

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji Reza Zadeh Sanati, Saeed (Author) ; khaloo, Alireza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Although the issue of separation is studied frequently in the last few decades, in presence of numerous parameters and unknown effects of earthquakes and soil condition, scientists confront with remarkable difficulties. It was supposed that performance of structures which are secluded from soil remains in the elastic region and doesn’t bear nonlinearity. But according to recent studies, scientist assert that nonlinear performance might be possible as a result of various soil condition and ingredients of earthquake(magnitude and frequency). General procedure for seismic improvements of structures includes increasing the strength and resistance, capability of structure to absorb energy and...

Nonlinear Study on the Behavior of Eccentrically Braced with Vertical Link

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Niknemat, Mohsen (Author) ; Mofid, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A new eccentrically braced system is discussed. In this system which Named “eccentrically braced frame with vertical link”, the braces is connected to vertical link, instead of floor beam. The vertical link acts as a ductile energy-dissipating element, allowing the rest of the construction such as floor beams, braces and columns remain in the elastic range. In this paper, a parametric study is performed on sample frames with push-over analysis. In these analysis, the efficacy of the variation of link length, link area and the position of the link beam, is studied. The results showed that, the most important effective parameters in improvement of inelastic behavior of frame is decreasing of...

Optimal damper placement in steel frames by the endurance time method

    , Article Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings ; Volume 20, Issue 5 , 2011 , Pages 612-630 ; 15417794 (ISSN) Estekanchi, H. E ; Basim, M. C ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Performance-based optimal seismic design of structures requires repetitive and massive dynamic analyses. In the Endurance Time (ET) method, structures are subjected to specially designed intensifying acceleration functions and their response at various excitation levels is estimated by each single response-history analysis, thus, significantly reducing the required computational demand. In this paper, the ET method is utilized to acquire optimal placement of viscous dampers in short steel frames with the target of obtaining the desirable performance in two hazard levels simultaneously. In the optimization procedure, the damping coefficients of the added dampers are treated as design...

Innovative Financing Scheme for Repair and Rehabilitation of Critical Infrastructures Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moghimi, Nima (Author) ; Haj Kazem Kashani, Hamed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aim of this research is to examine and propose solutions for financing projects aimed at reducing vulnerability in the oil industry's infrastructure against earthquakes and enhancing their seismic resilience. Design and construction issues, as well as the gradual deterioration of oil infrastructure, increase their vulnerability to earthquakes. Earthquakes can disrupt the proper and continuous functioning of these infrastructures by causing damage. Such disruptions or interruptions in the performance of oil industry infrastructure can have significant economic and social consequences. To mitigate these damages, investment in vulnerability reduction measures is essential. Financing...
