, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fattahpour, Haniyeh (Author) ; Hesaaraki, Mahmoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis we study the problem of existence and multiplicity of positive periodic solution to the scalar ODE , , where is a positive function on , super linear at zero and sub linear at infinity, and is a -periodic and sign indefinite weight with negative mean value. We first show the nonexistence of solution for some classes of nonlinearities when is small. Then, using critical point theory, we prove the existence of at least two positive -periodic solutions for large. Then, we prove the existence of a pair of positive -periodic solutions as well as the existence of positive sub harmonic solutions of any order for the scalar second order ODE where is same as above,...

Slotless disk type resolver: a solution to improve the accuracy of multi-speed wound rotor resolvers

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification ; 2021 ; 23327782 (ISSN) Moheyseni, A ; Nasiri Gheidari, Z ; Alipour Sarabi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2021
    Abstract
A common solution for increasing the accuracy of wound-rotor (WR) resolvers is to increase the number of poles. To achieve a compact design, fractional slot concentrated winding is used for multi-pole WR resolvers. However, employing such windings leads to rich sub-harmonics in the induced voltages. To suppress these undesirable sub-harmonics, multi-layer windings with appropriate shifting angle between the layers is suggested. However, the said shifting angle is limited by the slot pitch so that the capability of the multi-layer winding is not utilized fully. To overcome the mentioned deficiency a slotless disk type configuration is proposed in this paper. Then, an optimization based on the...

Stabilization of Subsynchronous Oscillations of ILAM Refinery Gas Turbine Units in Islanded Operations

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikhi, Mostafa (Author) ; Mokhtari, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ilam refinery has three synchronous generator units each with a capacity of 26.5 MVA and two six-phase LCI-fed synchronous compressors, each with a capacity of 8 MW. Generators of Ilam gas refinery have instability issue in case of island operation. With launching one generator unit and then connecting two compressors the instability problem and tripping of the generators appear. Given the importance of this issue, various tests and corresponding measurements in both electrical and mechanical aspects were carried out at the plant in on-grid and island operations to analyze the cause of instability phenomena. The mechanical part of tests analyses the frequency of oscillations and vibration in...

    Abstract
The problem of estimating pulse repetition interval (PRI) of an interleaved pulse train which consist of several independent radar signals, is the main issue of signal processing in electronic support systems. PRI Transform algorithm is one of the well known and effective methods of PRI detection which is capable of detecting several close jittered signals and surpassing subharmonics, but have some drawbacks especially because of small PRI dynamic range and heavy computations. In this paper a modified PRI transform is introduced which manage wide range of PRIs simultaneously, and speed up the algorithm by significantly reducing the computations. Moreover an efficient threshold is set for...

Analysis of nonlinear oscillations in spur gear pairs with approximated modelling of backlash nonlinearity

    , Article Mechanism and Machine Theory ; Volume 51 , 2012 , Pages 14-31 ; 0094114X (ISSN) Moradi, H ; Salarieh, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Due to international competition and strict limitations of standards regarding the noise level, investigation of gear vibration is of great importance. In this paper, nonlinear oscillations of spur gear pairs including the backlash nonlinearity is studied. Dynamic system is described through the classical single degree of freedom (SDOF) model in terms of dynamic transmission error (DTE). Using multiple scale method, forced vibration responses of the gear system including primary, super-harmonic and sub-harmonic resonances are investigated. In each case, the jump phenomenon and stability analysis are studied. In addition, the effect of dynamic and manufacturing parameters of the gear system...

Evolution of sub-harmonic interfacial waves generated by a surface wave through a three-wave interaction

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 19, Issue 2 , 2012 , Pages 225-233 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Fazeli, M ; Jamali, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
Higher-order effects in three-wave resonant interaction of a surface wave, with a pair of interfacial waves in a two-layer fluid, are studied theoretically. Following an initial rapid growth, the interfacial waves approach a steady state of constant amplitude. An explicit solution is presented for transition to the ultimate state of the interaction. It is shown that for interaction in a wave flume, it is necessary to include a 2nd pair of the interfacial waves, resulting from a reflection of the original pair in the analysis. The effects of different parameters on the dynamics of the interaction are investigated. The results indicate that a faster initial growth does not necessarily lead to...

Nonlinear transversal vibration of an axially moving viscoelastic string on a viscoelastic guide subjected to mono-frequency excitation

    , Article Acta Mechanica ; Volume 214, Issue 3-4 , November , 2010 , Pages 357-373 ; 00015970 (ISSN) Ahmadian, M. T ; Yaghoubi Nasrabadi, V ; Mohammadi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In this paper, the nonlinear transversal vibration of an axially moving viscoelastic string on a viscoelastic guide subjected to a mono-frequency excitation is considered. The model of the viscoelastic guide is a parallel combination of springs and viscous dampers. The governing equation of motion is developed using Hamilton's principle. Applying the method of multiple scales to the governing partial differential equation, the solvability condition and approximate solutions are derived. Three cases, namely primary, subharmonic and superharmonic resonances are studied and appropriate analytical solutions are obtained. The effect of mean value velocity, force amplitude, guide stiffness and...

Phase noise degradation of varactor and BJT frequency multipliers in the presence of parametric instability

    , Article IET Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation ; Volume 4, Issue 3 , 2010 , Pages 408-419 ; 17518725 (ISSN) Ahmadi, A ; Banai, A ; Farzaneh, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Varactor and bipolar junction transistor (BJT) frequency multipliers are a class of non-linear circuits that show parametric instability when the input drive is varied. If parametric oscillations are present in the circuit, output phase noise of the multiplier degrades remarkably in some specific driving levels. Phase noise analysis is performed by the conversion matrix method using generalised nodal analysis. The conversion method predicts the phase noise degradation precisely because it encompasses the effect of the noise sources that are modulated by the large signal drive. The added phase noise of a varactor and a BJT frequency doubler with subharmonic oscillation is calculated and the...

    Abstract
Varactor frequency multipliers often show parametric instability with increasing RF input power. Examination of the added phase noise of the varactor frequency multipliers show that, if parametric oscillations are present in the circuit, output phase noise degrades remarkably in some specific driving levels. Phase noise analysis is done by the conversion matrix method. The conversion method predicts the phase noise degradation precisely because it encounters the noise conversion by large driving levels. The added phase noise of a varactor frequency doubler with subharmonic oscillation is calculated and the simulation results are compared with measurement results. Both simulation and...
