    Monitoring of Petrochemical Refinary Process

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Saeedi, Majid (Author) ; Rashtchian, Davoud (Supervisor) ; Sharifzadeh, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to the replacement of fossil fuel with cleaner products, the reduction of fuel consumption in transportation until 2045, the excessive production of fuel oil in refineries and the growth of feed demand from downstream chemical units, have made countries to upgrade their refineries or construct Petro-refineries. The Petro-refinery is a new generation of refinery and its main purpose is to supply chemicals to downstream units. The products of these units will have more valuable than fuel refineries. Steam cracking unit, aromatic unit and propane dehydrogenation unit are important units that are in Petro-refineries. In this research, all refinery units were technically and economically...

Superstructure Optimization of CO2 Capture, transport, and Utilization in Industrial Symbiosis Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shah Mohammadi, Amir (Author) ; Roshandel, Ramin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
CO2 capture and utilization (CCU) is a promising approach to reduce and control emissions from the industry and energy sector, while also creating new jobs and value-added products. However, one of the main barriers to the widespread adoption of CCU is the high investment and operating costs, which limit its implementation to mostly government-supported research projects. To overcome this barrier, structural optimization and identification of optimal routes and formation of industrial symbiosis networks are needed. In this research, we developed a comprehensive superstructure that includes sources and sinks (in a case study), CO2 capture and separation material and technology combinations...

Superstructure optimization in heat exchanger network (HEN) synthesis using modular simulators and a genetic algorithm framework

    , Article Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research ; Volume 49, Issue 10 , 2010 , Pages 4731-4737 ; 08885885 (ISSN) Lotfi, R ; Boozarjomehry, R. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Heat exchanger network synthesis (HENS) is one of the most efficient process integration tools to save energy in chemical plants. In this work, a new optimization framework is proposed for the synthesis of HENS, based on a genetic algorithm (GA) coupled with a commercial process simulator through the ActiveX capability of the simulator. The use of GA provides a robust search in complex and nonconvex spaces of mathematical problems, while the use of a simulator facilitates the formulation of rigorous models for different alternatives. To include the most common heat exchanger structures in the model, a promising superstructure has been used. Allowing nonisothermal mixing of streams in the new...

Simulation, Integration, Optimization of Conversion of Natural Gas to Olefins by Methanol Production Process with ASPEN PLUS and GAMS Softwares

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Foroughi Doust, Mohsen (Author) ; Rashtchian, Davoud (Supervisor) ; Sharifzadeh, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Considering the supply and demand market of natural gas, methanol, propylene and ethylene and the propylene value chain, it is expected that the design of the propylene production process from methanol produced from natural gas and its implementation in Iran country can significantly flourish the production of polypropylene, acrylonitrile and Etc. On the other hand, with the industrialization of this process, the uncontrolled export of methanol from Iran to countries such as China and the devaluation of methanol will be prevented. In this report, the process of producing synthetic gas from natural gas using autothermal reactor and heat exchange reforming, separation and storage of carbon...
