    Abstract
In this paper we offer a tuning method for the design of stabilizing PI controllers that utilizes the stability region centroid in the controller parameter space. To this end, analytical formulas are derived to describe the stability boundaries of a class of relative-degree-one linear time invariant second-order systems, the stability region of which has a closed convex shape. The so-called centroid stable point is then calculated analytically and the resultant set of algebraic formulas are utilized to tune the controller parameters. The freedom to choose the surface density function in the calculation of centroid stable point provides the designer with the possibility to incorporate optimal...

Electro-optical properties of APS and APhS linkers on silicon thin film: A DFT study

    Abstract
APS (3-Aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane) and APhS (p-Aminophenyl) trimethoxysilane) are the most commonly used linkers on a silicon surface. We investigate the surface properties of the structures, including APS or APhS on a silicon substrate. The studied structures consist of APS or APhS linkers with one, two, or three bonds with a substrate, which is a thin layer of Si with crystal orientation 〈1 0 0〉 or 〈1 1 1〉. Using a first-principles study based on density functional theory (DFT), we investigated the electronic and optical properties of the silicon-linker interface, such as interface states, orbital location, dielectric function, and photon absorption. The effects of linker type, number...

    Abstract
Targeted drug delivery methods have shown a significant impact on enhancing drug delivery efficiency and reducing drug side effects. While various stimuli have been used to promote the drug delivery process, applying ultrasound (US) waves to control drug particles through the human body, noninvasively, has drawn the scientist's attention. However, microcarriers delivery reaches the aneurysmal artery by US waves that exert volumetric forces on blood, and drug carriers, which can therefore affect blood flow patterns and movement pathways of drug carriers, have not yet been studied. In this study, we developed a 3-D patient-specific model of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) to evaluate the...

Mechano-chemical AFM nanolithography of metallic thin films: A statistical analysis

    , Article Current Applied Physics ; Volume 10, Issue 4 , 2010 , Pages 1203-1210 ; 15671739 (ISSN) Akhavan, O ; Abdolahad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
A mechano-chemical atomic force microscope (AFM) nanolithography on a metallic thin film (50 nm in thickness) covered by a spin-coated soft polymeric mask layer (50-60 nm in thickness) has been introduced. The surface stochastic properties of initial grooves mechanically patterned on the mask layer (grooves before chemical wet-etching) and the lithographed patterns on the metallic thin film (the grooves after chemical wet-etching) have been investigated and compared by using the structure factor, power spectral density, and AFM tip deconvolution analyses. The effective shape of cross section of the before and after etching grooves have been determined by using the tip deconvolution surface...

Hot filament CVD of Fe-Cr catalyst for thermal CVD carbon nanotube growth from liquid petroleum gas

    , Article Applied Surface Science ; Volume 256, Issue 5 , 2009 , Pages 1365-1371 ; 01694332 (ISSN) Akbarzadeh Pasha, M ; Shafiekhani, A ; Vesaghi, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
A hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) method was used to prepare Fe-Cr thin film on Si substrate. The produced layers were used as catalysts for growing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from liquid petroleum gas (LPG) at 825 °C by thermal CVD (TCVD) method. To characterize the obtained catalysts or CNTs, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Raman spectroscopy were used. CNTs were grown on HFCVD derived Fe-Cr catalyst with the LPG as carbon source successfully. It was found that an annealing process on catalysts enhances the surface concentration of Cr atoms and reduces the sizes of catalyst particles. The...

    Abstract
Targeted drug delivery (TDD) to abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) using a controlled and efficient approach has recently been a significant challenge. In this study, by using magnetic microbubbles (MMBs) under a magnetic field, we investigated the MMBs performance in TDD to AAA based on the amount of surface density of MMBs (SDMM) adhered to the AAA lumen. The results showed that among the types of MMBs studied in the presence of the magnetic field, micromarkers are the best type of microbubble with a −50 % increase in SDMM adhered to the critical area of AAA. The results show that applying a magnetic field causes the amount of SDMM adhered to the whole area of AAA to increase −1.54 times...
