    Abstract
    Highlights: The objective of this work is to investigate the effects of the surfactants on the oil extraction from the dead ends through the numerical simulations and experimental evidences. The volume of fluid approach in the frame of the finite volume method has been used for numerical simulations in 2-D domain and experimental flooding tests have been done using a glassy micro-model. The effects of the water-oil, water-wall and oil-wall interfacial tensions have been investigated numerically and some results are compared to experimental flooding results.     Abstract
    Pulsating heat pipes (PHPs) are one of the new devices used for cooling in several applications such as electronic and aerospace systems. Their low cost, effectiveness at various conditions, being equipped for passive energy conversion, and well distribution of temperature compared to conventional heat pipes are among the reasons of their popularity. To investigate the effect of surface tension of the working fluid on the behavior of PHPs, a copper heat pipe is fabricated with inner and outer diameters of 2 mm and 4 mm, respectively.     Mass-transfer rates to and from drops in liquid-liquid extraction processes are often reduced by the presence of contaminants. To design an industrial extractor, it is essential to consider this contamination effect in a quantitative manner.
