Monitoring patient survival times in surgical systems using a risk-adjusted AFT regression chart

    , Article Quality Technology and Quantitative Management ; Volume 14, Issue 2 , 2017 , Pages 237-248 ; 16843703 (ISSN) Asadayyoobi, N ; Akhavan Niaki, S. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Monitoring surgical processes has gained prominence by accounting for patients’ health condition prior to surgery in recent years. However, most of previous researchers have focused on Phase-II monitoring based on binary outcomes, while very little attention has been paid to Phase-I monitoring procedures, especially when the outcomes are continuous. In this paper, a general Phase-I accelerated failure time-based risk-adjusted control chart is proposed to monitor continuous surgical outcomes based on a likelihood-ratio test derived from a change-point model. Different from the existing models, this paper shows that continuous outcomes depend not only on the patient conditions described by the...

    Abstract
Monitoring a surgical process has gained prominence by accounting for patiens̛ health condition prior to surgery in recent years. How even most existing researches focus on phase 2 monitoring and binary outcomes. Very little work has been done on phase 1 control of outcomes and no one addressing the issue of phase 1 monitoring of continuous outcomes. Risk adjustment is accomplished using accelerated failure time (AFT) regression models. In this thesis a general phase 1 risk-adjusted control chart is proposed for monitoring continuous surgical outcomes based on a likelihood-ratio test derived from a change-point model. Different from the existing models, this thesis shows that continuous...

Entanglement Survival Time in Landau-Zener Model in the Presence of Dissipation

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Babakan, Melika (Author) ; Memarzadeh, Laleh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Entanglement is one of the unique phenomena in quantum systems that does not have any similar phenomena in classical systems. Entanglement has been used in many protocols of quantum information theory, and there is agreement on its key role in quantum computations and quantum communication protocols. Therefore, studying its dynamics as well as preventing its degradation is important for us. Extensive studies have been done in this field, including the study of entanglement evolution in a situation where all parts of the system are entangled with one of its sub-system has irreversible dynamics due to interaction with its environment [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]. However, the study...

    Abstract
Background: cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women worldwide and its management remains challenging and complex. As Cytochrome4Z1 (CYP4Z1) is overex-pressed in many tumours, its expression in cervical cancer is unknown. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate CYP4Z1 expression in cervical cancers. Methods: CYP4Z1 expression was immunohistochemically assessed in 100 cases of cervical cancers along with ten normal cervix tissues, and the enzyme’s relationship to several clinicopathological features and survival was explored. Results: CYP4Z1 was strongly expressed in 55% of cervical cancer patients. Normal cervix samples were negative for CYP4Z1 expression....
