    Abstract
A dense membrane of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.8Fe0.2O3- δ (LSCF) perovskite was prepared by a new chelating agent, ethylene diamine N,N,N′,N′-tetra N-acetyl diamine (EDTNAD). As a potent ligand, EDTNAD provided a facile one-step method to form complexes of the four metal ions, simultaneously. The oxygen permeation flux through the pure perovskite LSCF dense membrane was measured over temperature range of 1073-1223 K, thickness of 0.7-1.0 mm and oxygen partial pressure of 0.1-1.0 bar. Oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) reaction using LSCF disk in the atmospheric membrane reactor and over the temperature range of 1073-1173 K showed a C2 selectivity of 100% and C2 yield of 5.01% at 1153 K. Furthermore,...

Optimization of a process synthesis superstructure using an ant colony algorithm

    , Article Chemical Engineering and Technology ; Volume 31, Issue 3 , 2008 , Pages 452-462 ; 09307516 (ISSN) Raeesi, B ; Pishvaie, M. R ; Rashtchian, D ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The optimization of chemical syntheses based on superstructure modeling is a perfect way for achieving the optimal plant design. However, the combinatorial optimization problem arising from this method is very difficult to solve, particularly for the entire plant. Relevant literature has focused on the use of mathematical programming approaches. Some research has also been conducted based on meta-heuristic algorithms. In this paper, two approaches are presented to optimize process synthesis superstructure. Firstly, mathematical formulation of a superstructure model is presented. Then, an ant colony algorithm is proposed for solving this nonlinear combinatorial problem. In order to ensure...

    , Article Sensors and Actuators, A: Physical ; Volume 141, Issue 2 , 2008 , Pages 463-470 ; 09244247 (ISSN) Moetakef, P ; Ali Nemati, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Pyrochlore free (x)PMN-(1 - x)PZT ceramics were synthesized successfully by a seeding method. In this method, the mixture of PbO, MgO and Nb2O5 was added to the prepared PZT sol to from PMN-PZT gel. The gel was fired to vaporize the organic contents of gel and obtain powder. Two-step sintering process was used to produce pyrochlore free ceramics. The samples produced by this method showed higher relative densities, lower sintering temperature and higher dielectric properties relative to the mixed oxide method, mostly due to the higher homogeneity of the prepared powder. The measured dielectric properties of PZT-rich and PMN-rich materials were high while the other samples exhibited low...

Europium-doped yttrium silicate nanoparticles embedded in a porous SiO 2 matrix

    , Article Nanotechnology ; Volume 15, Issue 11 , 2004 , Pages 1549-1553 ; 09574484 (ISSN) Taghavinia, N ; Lerondel, G ; Makino, H ; Yao, T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
Europium-doped yttrium silicate nanoparticles were grown inside a porous silicon oxide matrix by chemical impregnation of porous silicon layers, followed by heat treatments. The average size of the nanoparticles is 50 nm and they are dispersed almost uniformly within the whole porous layer. Local composition measurements demonstrate that Y and Eu are found only in nanoparticles, indicating a good phase separation efficiency. There is indirect evidence that yttrium silicate nanoparticles are nucleated around Eu ions. The crystalline phase of the particles is pure α-Y2Si2O7, with no trace of Y2O3 or Y2SiO5 or other Y2Si2O7 polymorphs. Structural purity is an advantage for this method, as in...

    2013
    Abstract
In the present study, a one step hydrothermal process was employed to synthesize magnetite nanoparticles using oleic acid as surfactant agent at 140 °C. Effects of reaction time and alkalinity were studied on particles size and morphology. By changing these parameters, some monodisperse spherical nanoparticles with mean particle size between 2.71 and 13.88 nm were synthesized and characterized via TEM, XRD, VSM, TGA and FT-IR techniques. Assuming the Avrami behavior of particles formation, a kinetics equation was proposed for the transformation rate at 140 °C. Using some simplifying assumptions, nucleation and growth rates were calculated for the hydrothermal formation of magnetite...

Magnetic viscosity-coercivity relation for Fe1-xCox fine particles

    , Article Physica B: Condensed Matter ; Volume 403, Issue 1 , 2008 , Pages 12-15 ; 09214526 (ISSN) Zoriasatain, S ; Sebt, S. A ; Akhavan, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
The variation of the applied field results in a subsequent change of magnetization with time. There is a relationship between the coercivity (Hc), as the equilibrium characteristic of the system, and its magnetic stability (1/S), as a parameter characterizing the time dependence. 1/S as a function of Hc has been measured and studied for different Fe1-xCox samples. We synthesized several samples with different values of x by applying various magnetic fields during the grains' growth, and observed a linear relationship between 1/S and Hc. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Abstract
A modified mixed oxide method which is based on a two step reaction sintering process was designed to obtain single phase PMN ceramics. In this regard, pyrochlore phase formation during calcination process at different calcination temperatures was studied to determine the best soaking temperature for the first step in the specified method. In other words, the calcination temperature in which the least pyrochlore phase produced was chosen as the first step soaking temperature. The results showed that by utilizing this new method, single phase PMN ceramics with a high relative density of 98% can be synthesized successfully using conventional mixed oxide starting materials. © 2007 Springer...

    Abstract
A semi-interpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPN) hydrogel based on kappa-carrageenan (κC) and poly (vinylsulfonic acid, sodium salt) (PVSA) was prepared by graft copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) using methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) as a crosslinking agent and ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator. FTIR spectroscopy was used for confirming the structure of the final product. It was found that the chemical composition of the Semi-IPN hydrogel is equal to the initial homopolymers and monomer feed compositions. The swelling capacity of the hydrogel was shown to be affected by the MBA, APS, and AAm concentration as well as κC/PVSA weight ratio. The swelling behavior of the hydrogel was...

    Abstract
Hydrogel hybrids were conveniently prepared from alkaline hydrolysis of chitosan-poly(acrylonitrile) mixture under highly practical conditions. The reaction of chitosan alkoxide anions with nitrile groups of poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) forms crosslinking points and results in a three-dimensional network with superswelling ability in aqueous media. The hydrogel hybrid was identified using FTIR spectroscopy. The PAN content of the hydrolyzing feed affects proportionally the swelling capacity of the hydrogel hybrid. The swelling properties (capacity and rate) of the ampholytic hydrogel were investigated preliminarily. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc

    Abstract
In the present work, Tetrahydrofuran was produced from 1,4-butanediol by catalytically dehydration of 1,4-butanediol in contact with a catalyst. Material used as catalyst were Synthesized and natural zeolites as well as alumina and silica. Synthesized zeolites were investigated in different aspect such as pore size, cation and Si/Al ratio. Results indicated that with increasing the Si/Al ratio, the activity of the zeolite used for 1, 4-butanediol dehydration step was reduced. Furthermore, it was observed that, upon the replacement of sodium with hydrogen and ammonium cations, the conversion of the 1, 4-butanediol into tetrahydrofuran was increased. It was shown zeolites possessing smaller...
