    Abstract
A robust method for ultra-wideband (UWB) imaging of buried shallow objects based on time gating, Wiener filtering, as well as constant false alarm rate (CFAR) is proposed. Moreover, it is demonstrated that Wiener filtering can be used as a clutter removal tool in UWB signal applications. Basically, the problem with time gating method is that the length of the timing window for unknown targets cannot be determined accurately in advance. In fact, it is a blind methodology and some targets can be missed due to a lack of pre-knowledge about their depth. Imprecise window length selection leads to missing some parts of the target signals along with the clutter, which in turn increases the missed...

    Abstract
In this paper, we focus on the moving target localization problem in a multiple-input multiple-output radar with widely separated antennas. By exploiting jointly different types of information including time delay, Doppler shift and azimuth and elevation angles of arrival, we develop an algebraic closed-form two-stage weighted least squares solution for the problem. The proposed algorithm is shown analytically to attain the CramerRao lower bound accuracy under the small Gaussian noise assumption. Numerical simulations are included to examine the algorithm's performance and corroborate the theoretical developments

Joint time difference of arrival/angle of arrival position finding in passive radar

    , Article IET Radar, Sonar and Navigation ; Volume 3, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 167-176 ; 17518784 (ISSN) Norouzi, Y ; Derakhshani, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Several target position finding methods are proposed in various papers mainly regarding sensor networks. However, the problem of position finding in passive radar systems is somewhat different from the general case of sensor networks. Generally, in a passive radar system, there are few receivers located at short distances when compared with the it distance from the target. In this case, a problem known as geometric dilution of precision (GDP) occurs, which considerably increases the error of many proposed methods. This phenomenon can even make the position finding equations non-solvable. Regarding this fact, we have developed a least mean square error (LMSE) based method, which uses both the...

    Abstract
In this paper, the problem of locating a target in a distributed multiple-input multiple-output radar system using bistatic range measurements is addressed. An algebraic closed-form two-stage weighted least squares solution for the considered problem is developed and analyzed. In the first stage, we establish a set of linear equations by eliminating the nuisance parameters first and then we apply a weighted least squares estimator to determine the target position estimate. In the second stage, in order to improve the localization performance and refine the solution of the first stage, an estimate of the target position estimation error is obtained. The final solution is obtained by...

    Abstract
Design of a vision-based target tracking control strategy for a dual-rotor UAV with tilting rotors is presented. In this research, the under-study UAV is equipped with a sliding mass that can slide over a motorized linear track attached to the UAV's fuselage enabling it to perform sophisticated maneuvers by monitoring its five controllable degrees of freedom. The dynamic model of the system is first derived and then a model-based controller using vision based pose estimation, obtained via an onboard down-looking camera, is designed enabling the UAV to: (1) pitch hover in position, (2) servo towards a target position, and (3) track a moving target. Simulations show the premise of the proposed...

    Abstract
In this paper, a fundamental investigation on the performance of localization problem in a distributed multiple-input multiple-output radar system using bistatic range (BR) and angle of arrival (AOA) measurements is conducted. The study is based on the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) for the target position under Gaussian measurement noise. We attempt to approximately compute the CRLB separately in the cases of BR-only and joint BRlAOA localization schemes and determine which factors can affect the CRLB values. The three factors the transmitter/receiver placement, the number of transmitters and receivers, and noise power levels are shown to be effective on the localization performance....

    Abstract
In this study, an algebraic closed-form method for jointly locating the target and refining the antenna positions in multiple-input-multiple-output radar systems is proposed. First, a set of linear equations is formed by non-linear transformation and nuisance parameters elimination, and then, an estimate of the target position is obtained by employing a weighted least-squares estimator. To jointly refine the target and antenna positions, the associated error terms are estimated in the sequence. The proposed method is shown analytically and confirmed by simulations to attain the Cramér-Rao lower bound performance under small-error conditions. Numerical simulations are given to support the...

    Abstract
This paper concentrates on the target localization problem in a distributed multiple-input multiple-output radar system using the bistatic range (BR) measurements. By linearizing the BR measurements and considering the relationship between the nuisance parameter and the target position, a constrained weighted least squares (CWLS) problem is formulated, which is an indefinite quadratically constrained quadratic programming problem. Since the constraint is non-convex, it is a nontrivial task to find the global solution. For this purpose, an improved Newton's method is applied to the CWLS problem to estimate the target position. Numerical simulations are included to examine the algorithm's...

    Abstract
In this study, in order to maximize the reaction rate of neutron activation (NA), an approach using combination of the MCNP code, the feed-forward neural network with the Bayesian regularization (FFNN-BR) learning algorithm, and the genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed. The MCNP code calculates the reaction rates based on the different moderator dimensions/ target positions. The calculated reaction rates with appropriate features (i.e. RT, R2S, and Z2S) are applied for training of the FFNN-BR. The trained neural network is utilized for estimating the reaction rates of the generated individuals by the GA. The results show that the trained neural network estimates the reaction rates with...

    Abstract
This paper deals with the moving target localization problem from time delay and Doppler shift measurements in a distributed multiple-input multiple-output radar system. An algebraic closed-form two-stage weighted least squares solution is presented to locate the target position and velocity. In the first stage, a set of pseudo-linear equations is established by introducing and decreasing the nuisance parameters. Then, two quadratic equations are obtained in terms of the nuisance parameters by considering relationships among them and the target position and velocity. By applying the elimination method that gives the nuisance parameters and substituting them into the localization problem, the...
