Optimization of photovoltaic electrolyzer hybrid systems; taking into account the effect of climate conditions

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 118 , 2016 , Pages 438-449 ; 01968904 (ISSN) Sayedin, F ; Maroufmashat, A ; Sattari, S ; Elkamel, A ; Fowler, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Solar energy will make a valuable contribution for power generation in the future. However the intermittency of solar energy has become an important issue in the utilization of PV system, especially small scale distributed solar energy conversion systems. The issue can be addressed through the management of production and storage of the energy in the form of hydrogen. The hydrogen can be produced by solar photovoltaic (PV) powered electrolysis of water. The amount of transferred energy to an electrolyzer from a PV module is a function of the distance between maximum power points (MPP) of PV module and the electrolyzer operating points. The distance can be minimized by optimizing the number...

A bi-level model for optimal bidding of a multi-carrier technical virtual power plant in energy markets

    , Article International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems ; Volume 125 , 2021 ; 01420615 (ISSN) Foroughi, M ; Pasban, A ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Fayaz Heidari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
Distributed energy resources (DERs) play an important role in the future vision of distribution energy networks. This paper with the aim of promoting DERs role in energy markets proposes a new framework for the optimal bidding strategy of a Technical Virtual Power Plant (TVPP) in different markets. In the proposed framework, it is assumed that the TVPP energy power is distributed throughout a multi-carrier energy network (MCEN) which consists of district heat networks (DHNs) and a distributed electricity network (DEN). In the MCEN, CHP units are the linkage between DHNs and DEN. With the goal of maximizing the profit of TVPP in different local and wholesale energy markets, a bi-level...

Improving construction management of an educational center by applying Earned Value technique

    , Article Procedia Engineering ; Volume 14 , 2011 , Pages 1945-1952 ; 18777058 (ISSN) Naderpour, A ; Mofid, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Earned value project management is a well-known management system that integrates cost, schedule and technical performance. It allows the calculation of cost and schedule variances and performance indices and forecasts the project cost and schedule duration. The Earned Value concept was conceived by industrial engineers working in American factories over a century ago. This concept improved by the time and in July 1998, the Earned Value Management System became the American National Standards Institute (ANSI/EIA) Standard #748. By concise reports derived from using Earned Value Method (EVM) in the project, the manager is able to have exact information about the project details and also can...

Multi objective receding horizon optimization for optimal scheduling of hybrid renewable energy system

    , Article Energy and Buildings ; Volume 150 , 2017 , Pages 583-597 ; 03787788 (ISSN) Behzadi Forough, A ; Roshandel, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a methodology for energy management system (EMS) based on the multi-objective receding horizon optimization (MO-RHO) is presented to find the optimal scheduling of hybrid renewable energy system (HRES). The proposed HRES which is experimentally installed in educational building comprising the PV panels, wind turbine, battery bank and diesel generator as the backup system. The data acquisition system provides input profiles for receding horizon optimizer. A mixed-integer convex programing technique is used to achieve the optimal operation regarding to two conflicting operation objectives including diesel fuel cost and battery wear cost. The Pareto frontiers are presented to...

Charging/discharging management of electric vehicles: technical viewpoint

    , Article 2016 Smart Grids Conference, SGC 2016, 20 December 2016 through 21 December 2016 ; 2017 , Pages 1-6 ; 9781509049882 (ISBN) Farzin, H ; Fotuhi Firuzabad, M ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper investigates three different strategies for centralized charging/discharging management of electric vehicles, their features and the impacts on technical performance of distribution systems. Three goals of load factor maximization, load variance reduction and energy loss minimization are chosen as the main technical factors need to be optimized in the proposed electric vehicles charging/discharging management strategies. In this regard, at first, the mathematical model of these strategies for both cases of with/without vehicle-to-grid (V2G) programs are extracted. Then, solving procedure of the attained optimization problems with different optimization methods are explained. These...
